...Overcoming Process Bottlenecks Jauwanna Pitts OPS/571 September 24, 2012 Michelle O'Hagan Overcoming Process Bottlenecks Bottleneck is defined as as any resource whose capacity is less than the demand placed upon it. A bottleneck is a constraint within the system that limits throughput (Chase, Jacobs, & Aquilano, 2006). In week one a flow chart was designed to measure and improve the process of International sales orders. The goal of the process flowchart was to create ways to make the order entry process less time consuming and more efficient. Action items were put in place to create a better process. An evaluation of the main bottleneck in the international order entry process will be reviewed. A definition and application of Goldratt’s theory of constraints to identify and overcome process bottlenecks will be included as well. The Process The main bottleneck in the international process is the fact that entering orders is such a manual process. There are twelve steps involved to enter one purchase order: 1. Receive orders by email 2. Flag orders according to importance 3. Print emails 4. Move orders to the individual countries folders in Microsoft Outlook 5. Correlate the orders 6. Staple the orders 7. Separate the orders by country for order entry 8. Pull up electronic copy of the international address book 9. Order Entry 10. Sent order acknowledgement to sales office to confirm accuracy before placing order in the production schedule. 11. Once...

...Bottleneck Process Week Three Gamal Gilchrist University of Phoenix OPS/571 April 16, 2012 Improving and developing processes is to identify and address the bottlenecks that can happen inside that process. A bottleneck is any point in a process that the flow slows down and delays process completion. As technology vastly continues to improve bottlenecks will be addressed but there is always another bottleneck, just as Goldratt stipulates (Chase, Jacobs, & Aquilano, 2006). To simplify my driving to work process and improve apron it, it’s vital to identify and take care of the bottlenecks that can mess up the process of getting to work on time. The data collected from the process identified in week, One I recognized two bottlenecks in driving to work. The first bottleneck that usually affects my everyday driving to work are the traffic lights that I run into sometimes on my way to work. Sometimes I would catch back to back red lights and this would impede my process to work. To elude this bottleneck, I leave the house early enough to make sure I have ample time to get to work on time even if I get stuck at a light or two. Four days ago, another bottleneck I ran into which affected my drive to work was a car accident on the highway. The highway backed up bumper to bumper, which made driving very slow. I finally arrived at work 15 minutes later than my standard arrival time. This was a major and rare bottleneck I faced. Still, I got to work on time...

...the route I chose to take each morning which determined rather or not I would arrive to work or not. The second constraint in my morning routine was the amount of time I would spend sitting in traffic once I would exit the turnpike. The first constraint could be identified by the route that I would take in the morning which determined weither or not I made it to work on time. After evaluating the two routes I was able to identify that Route 1 offered the slowest process in my morning routine which caused me to be late for work both morning that I took this route. Route 2 was identified as the route that was most effective in my morning route. Route 2 allowed me the opportunity to speed up the process of my morning routine. The bottle neck that was identified as the amount of traffic that I would have to drive in each morning if I took the route 1 (SW 120 Street exit). Although route 1 allows me to exit closer to my job each morning it is not the most effective one for me to take. It would also cause me to be late to work each morning unless I left my house at least 10 minutes earlier each day. The second constraint in my morning routine is the amount of time it takes me to get to my job each...

...Running head: BOTTLENECK IN AM ROUTINE Bottleneck In AM Routine Ruth Martinez OPS/571 Operations Management January 28, 2013 Ashley Carr Bottleneck in AM Routine A flow chart was created in week one of class to see what improvements that could be made to my daily morning routine. For the following week I monitored the process and see what improvements if any could be made. Looking over the metric system I realized that I continued the same pattern each week, but realized what I could do on a consistency bases to improve my time. I will go over the bottleneck in my process and also reflect on how I can am able to apply The Goldratt’s theory of constraints in order to identify and finally overcome the bottleneck in my routine. Process Bottleneck Being able to the bottleneck can become a very important aspect of the analyzing the process because it allows for capacity to be identified in the process as well as the opportunity to increase it. Looking at the flowchart and the metric system I determined there was a few things aside from time that became my bottleneck such as over sleeping by hitting the snooze button and if I had my clothes for the day ready. A result of these two either gave me more time in the morning or delayed me to have a crunch on time. It seems that these are my two major problems in the morning everything is else is simple and flows quickly as the time permits it and allow me to rush to work on time or have time to...

...It was a pretty quiet plane ride. Dad was working on his laptop and I was listening to music. I noticed there was a very bad storm out of the window. The plane was shaking. Suddenly the lights went out and the oxygen masks deployed. Something hit my head. The next thing I know we are in the water and my dad is yelling my name. I see him in the distance swimming towards me. He gets to me and gives me his life vest. He tells me that I have to survive, that his company isn’t what I thought it was. He gives me a book with a list of names and tells me that everyone on that list has done terrible things to stay rich, and that he is no different. He told me stories of how he and the people on this list got wealthy by stepping on the necks of the poor. That he has had people hurt or killed to keep his company on top. He stayed with me as long as he could but as time went by he got weaker. He couldn’t hold on anymore. He let go and drifted beneath the water. Before he went he told me that I must right the wrongs that he made. I kept awake as long as I could but eventually passed out. Days went by as I floated and the sun was really getting to me. I was thirsty. I was hungry. I thought that I was going to die in the water. Suddenly I saw an island. I swam as fast as I could to get to the...

And Charley and them is laughing and well, I never got laughs before I am not a funny person, and WOW man, getting laughs is the best high the guys was laughing dudes, they loved it, so they go; ‘put him on a leash.’ And I do like a sketch, like Saturday Night Live, like ‘Oh my God it’s time to take the dog for a walk… hey Mom? Did you take the dog for a walk? Henry? Henry. Did you walk the dog nobody walked the damn dog I’m walkin’ it. Here dog, ya dirty dog. No treat for you today You been a bad dog.’ And I’m pullin him… I was surprised how different is a human neck from a dog neck. With dogs you can pull and pull and they keep on going not with humans. They necks is soft. And… well… It is a weird feeling – made my breathing go – a little funny. Shallow. My voice kinda got full of breath. And I felt like Alice in Wonderland. Where everything was not Real and I could walk out again anytime and What was behind there would stay...

...Insanity Insanity runs deep within one’s veins; it travels at such a fast speed that one does not realize. It claws and screams from within, begging to be freed, begging to be released so it can corrupt. So it can corrupt and destroy and simply ruin the beauty in the world. You see, if Insanity was left loose into the world, then Insanity would ruin even the most innocent of things. For example, imagine Insanity to be a person. A person with two arms, two legs, hands and feet; a person with blood pulsing through thick veins and capillaries and breathing life into lungs—a person with a beating heart, eyes like the darkest oceans in this world as this person stares and stalks. Do you see that person? Can you picture that person perfectly? Can you picture that person standing tall in the falling, peaceful snow dressed in black, watching carefully? Can you? Can you feel the person’s breath tickling down your throat as they step closer, as fingers wrap around your throat and slowly but surely squeeze. Like I said, slowly at first… so slow, so gentle, you can’t really notice it; you don’t panic, you relax. Your lips part and your head tips back a little, eyes locking with theirs, question filling your irises. But then you feel it, you feel the hatred running through your veins, intoxicating your mind and your heart and ruining every single cell in that what was once innocent body of yours. You feel Insanity taking over and you cannot stop it because the rush, the taste, the...

...Theory of Constraints The topic for my discussion on the Theory of Constraint is the team that handles rental properties for a real estate business. This includes homes as well as commercial properties for rent, from the perspective of the tenant and the landlord. The organization is a team of real estate agents that specialize in rental properties. The goal is to generate profitable revenue by ensuring the quota is met for lease contract agreements to go to settlement in the specified time. Throughput are the number of contracts for the lease of properties that have completed, settled, and funded. Inventory comprises of available rental properties that have been listed with the company, as well as landlords that are represented by agents of the company. Operating expenses include costs associated with the listing or showing of rental properties, such as open houses, advertising costs, and transportation of prospective tenants to the property. The bottleneck is the landlord’s approval and acceptance of the terms of the contract. This will be discussed in more detail in the five steps below. 1) Identify the system’s bottlenecks. Typically the landlord will want to maximize profit by listing the property for as much as possible. Regardless of the listing price being inline with the market area, or being overpriced, lease offers will often be less than the asking price. With lease offers from more than one prospective tenants require more time in their decision...

The rate of growth has remained steady in recent years, with volumes passing 100m cases during the 2005-2006 financial year. With the average age of the population on the decrease and income levels on the increase, the popularity of beer in the country continues to rise. Industry Consolidation and Emergence of a new Bi-polar Market Dynamic The Indian beer industry has witnessed a big change during the last five years. The industry was previously dominated by competition between the Vijay Mallya-controlled United Breweries Group and the Manu Chabbriacontrolled Shaw Wallace. The scenario changed, however, with the entry of SABMiller in India. The international beer giant started by acquiring small breweries in the south but then completely changed the landscape with the acquisition of Shaw Wallace’s beer portfolio for a reported US$132m in 2003. This gave SABMiller ownership of strong brands like Haywards 5000, along with its existing brands. After the acquisition, SABMiller focused on spreading its footprint across India, including opening new breweries in states where Shaw Wallace did not have...

...How industry structure affects firms’ profitability? * There are 3 main businesses related to the industry structure, concentrate producer, bottler, retailed channel. Industry structure is the value chain of the Beverage industry that affect firm’s profitability directly and CSD need to maintain the end-end value chain and ensure that the bottom neck will not be matter in each step. Since it would be impact to the profitability. * Concentrate producer: the activities of the concentrate producer that are the most important parts of the industry covered on advertisement, promotion, product research, and market research. Since it covers the key and main activities that are knowhow and strategy in taking advantage from the competitors. This is the key driver in making the profit of the industry. * Bottler: Bottles’ gross profits routinely exceeded 40% but operating margin were usually around 8%. Therefore the Coca-Cola and Pepsi organize a nationwide franchise bottling network, made a huge investment in their network, provide franchise agreements allowed bottlers to handle the non-cola brands of other concentrate producers in order to maintain the business value because the bottler is important business but it don’t earn the money appropriately. * Retail Channel : the distribution of CSD took place though retail channel and they affected to the profitability since the industry must to deliver their product to the customer by passing each channels. ...BASICS Fill the Glass Bottles with water by using the left-trigger on a source of water. If you need to make potions somewhere that is not near water you'll want to use the Cauldron, multiple Buckets and carry a large stack of Glass Bottles. Take the Buckets and fill them with water. Empty the Bucket into the Cauldron and then fill the Glass Bottles with water to make Water Bottles. Note that each Cauldron full of water can fill three Glass Bottles. Also note that Water Bottles do not stack. Now go to the Brewing Stand and use it to bring up the brewing interface. Place up to three Water Bottles in the slots at the bottom then place the Primary Ingredient in the slot in the top. Once the brewing is complete, you can drop in another ingredient to further alter or enhance the potion such as adding Gunpowder to turn a Potion into a Splash Potion. Tip: Always try to use three Glass Bottles at a time when brewing. Only a single Primary Ingredient can be used to create three potions so it is very inefficient to create only one potion at a time unless you are in a pinch. Potions are brewed in stages and the first potion you'll need to brew before you can get to the more interesting ones is the Awkward Potion. The primary ingredient for this is a Nether Wart. You can then add additional ingredients to the Awkward Potion such as Sugar or a Ghast Tear to create a useful potion. Creating a potion by starting with any other ingredient results in either Mundane or Thick Potions...
