...SIXTH GRADE BOTTLE ROCKET LAB THIRD TRIMESTER LAB REPORT Objective: During the completion of this activity, you will demonstrate science processing skills, an ability to use technological design, and an ability to identify factors that affect motion and forces. Background Information: Bottle rockets are excellent devices for investigating "Newton's Three Laws of Motion": 1st Law - A rocket will remain on the launch pad until an unbalanced force is exerted, propelling the rocket upward. 2nd Law - The amount of force depends upon how much air is pumped inside the rocket. You can increase the force further by adding a small amount of water, which increases the mass expelled by the air pressure in the rocket. 3rd Law - Finally, the action force of the air (and water) as it rushes out of the nozzle creates an equal and opposite reaction force propelling the rocket upward. Ask a Question? How can pressurized water and a soda bottle be used to build a rocket? Form a Hypothesis If a bottle rocket is filled with XXX ml of water using XXX psi of applied pressure, then it should reach an altitude of XXX meters. Water LevelLESS THAN 1000ml | PressureLESS THAN80 PSI | AltitudeLESS THAN300 Meters | Procedure Materials 2 L Soda Bottle with cap Foam Board Modeling Clay Poster Board Duct Tape Scissors Water Bucket Rocket Launcher Altimeter *Remove or add materials that do/do not apply to “your” experiment.* Conduct an Experiment 1. ...Forces and Motion For Students of Baldwin Wallace College Spring Semester 2011 Monday – Wednesday 10:00 – 11:15 am Room 139 Wilker Faculty Richard Heckathorn The materials for this course were organized and edited by Richard Heckathorn using materials from a program called Operation Physics and includes materials developed by him. The original OPERATION PHYSICS activity sequence to improve physics teaching and learning in upper elementary and middle schools was funded by the National Science Foundation. Original Material Copyright 1992 by American Institute of Physics Materials edited and photoduplicated with permission. FORCES & MOTION INTRODUCTION WORKSHOP LEADER’S TOPIC INFORMATION INTRODUCTION TO FORCES & MOTION An understanding of force and motion is fundamental to the study of almost all other physics-related topics. Yet it is a topic often overlooked or only cursorily introduced in elementary and middle school science, even though it is a topic typically identified for inclusion in the curriculum for these grades. A primary reason for this is that many teachers do not feel comfortable about their own understanding of the topic. Consequently, this may be the most needed of all of the OPERATION PHYSICS workshops. This workshop leader’s notebook is divided into two parts: PART ONE Motion Part One begins by introducing participants to the concepts of space and time....

...56 Future Accomplishments: Waiting for Someone to go First historical perspective, new strategy, people making a difference, powerful idea, social trends, technology trends June 8th, 2012 inShare24 On May 24th, Gary Connery, a 42 year old stuntman from Oxfordshire, England jumped from a helicopter hovering over one mile in the air over southern England, and glided to the earth using a specially designed wing suit. His runway was comprised of a cobbled-up crash-pad fabricated from 18,000 cardboard boxes to soften the impact. With this record-setting jump, Gary became the first skydiver to land without using a parachute. While others have survived through some fluke of nature, he was the first one to plan it from the start. We live in a world obsessed with accomplishments, and more specifically, obsessed with being FIRST. Few of us remember the 2nd person to set foot on the moon, or the 2nd person to invent the airplane, or the 2nd one to run a mile in under 4 minutes. So given this almost fanatical pursuit to become the “first” at something, what exactly are some of the big accomplishments still waiting to be claimed that will land someone in the history books? Here are a few that come to mind. History of Firsts People can become famous for a variety reasons stemming from heroic, unfortunate, ground breaking, or even uncontrollable circumstances. When a new trend appears in transportation, communication, or the technical world, an opportunistic innovator is always...

...This is made evidence in the initiative of Zoom-lion to provide training to its employees and encourage applied research on sanitation and waste management in the country and in Africa through the establishment of The Institute of Sanitation and Waste Management (TISWM) and accredited by Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology ( KNUST) (Annepu & Themelis, 2013). Before waste collection is initiated, waste management in general undergoes four main cycles: The first phase is the planning phase; where waste management policy, legal compliance and action programmes are formulated. The second phase is the action phase where roles and responsibilities are assigned, procedure drawn, and awareness raising and training conducted. Third phase is the auditing phase. At the auditing phase, planning and auditing information are collected and evaluated. The last and fourth phase is the re-evaluation phase where audit reporting and corrective actions are...

...Business and Marketing Strategy Q1: Assessment of environmental issues affecting Coca Cola Provide a detailed assessment of the environmental issues affecting Coca Cola global business and marketing strategy. Given guidance in terms of opportunities or threats they may pose for the company in the future. Lo; illustrate how marketing decisions are affected by various forces in the external business environment “WATER is to Coca-Cola as clean energy is to BP.” So declares Jeff Seabright, Coca-Cola's manager of environmental affairs, when asked about the firm's new global water strategy. The fizzy-drinks maker unveiled that strategy as part of its annual environmental report, released this week. “We need to manage this issue or it will manage us,” says Mr Seabright. At first sight, the analogy with oil may seem odd, but it is not so far-fetched. Big Oil has long been the target of activists clamouring for action on global warming. BP stole a march on its oily brethren by accepting that climate change is a real problem, making smallish investments in clean energy, and grandly proclaiming itself “beyond petroleum”. Coca-Cola has also been targeted by activists, but over the issue of water rather than energy. The firm has been hit hardest in India. First, experts from Delhi's Centre for Science and Environment, a green think-tank, tested various soft drinks and determined that they contained high levels of pesticide. It turned out that Coca-Cola was not the cause of the problem...
