Have you ever wondered what people did in response to conflict? Everyone does it differently for each conflict. In WWII, there were rebels in the Nazi army and government, spying on what they are doing. There were many who rebelled against the Nazi’s. For example, Sophie Scholl rebelled against her school. Winston Churchill rebelled against the Nazi’s invading the United Kingdom. They all went against the opposing sides because they responded to conflict. In the Boy in the Striped Pajamas, by John Boyne, Hitler Youth, by Susan Campbell Bartoletti, Dear Miss Breed, by Joanne Oppenheim, Blood, Toil, Tears, and Sweat, by Winston Churchill and Anne Frank:The Diary of a Young Girl, by Anne Frank talk about responding to conflict. So, all the people …show more content…
In the excerpt, it states,” ‘I don’t like to think about it, but soon there is going to be nothing left but politics, and as long as it’s so confusing and evil, and it’s cowardly to turn away from it’ “(Bartoletti 8). This represents that she is going to somehow stop Hitler and his youth. This acknowledges that she is going to go against Hitler, or the opposing side.
Second, in Blood, Toil, Tears and Sweat by Winston Churchill, he talks about how they are responding to the conflict. In the excerpt, it states,” To wage war against the monstrous tyranny never surpassed in the dark and lamentable catalogue of human crime”(Churchill 10). This represents that Churchill is going to fight the Nazi’s and he is getting the country to fight to. This acknowledges that Churchill is responding to conflict by going against the opposing side.
Last, in the Boy in the Striped Pajamas, by John Boyne, it is about 2 boys named Bruno and Shmuel who find out who they are and how they react to the conflict. In the excerpt, it states,” ‘Shmuel, here!’ said Bruno stepping forward and putting slices in his friend's hand” (Boyne 31). This represents that Shmuel didn’t want the food slices, but Bruno wanted to help his friend get better. This acknowledges that they were reacting to conflict by helping each other go against the opposing side of the story, or the slave owners of

The Boy In The Striped Pajamas Literary Analysis

...One piece of evidence that shows on both claims is from John Boyne himself. As John Boyne states on his website, “the novel has sold more that 6 million copies worldwide” (Point and Counterpoint). In “Point: There is Value in Teaching History Through Fiction”, the author interprets the quote in a positive way. History has been presented as more engaging through an entertaining book, as opposed to a textbook. However, in “Counterpoint: There is Danger in Fictionalizing History”, the author interprets this quote negatively. The author also admits that “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas” is entertaining, but calls this a “serious charge” because numerous people read misleading and inaccurate information (Counterpoint). The Point’s claim is more persuasive...

In Cold Blood Pdf

...In Cold Blood Truman Capote I. The Last to See Them Alive The village of Holcomb stands on the high wheat plains of western Kansas, a lonesome area that other Kansans call "out there." Some seventy miles east of the Colorado border, the countryside, with its hard blue skies and desert-clear air, has an atmosphere that is rather more Far West than Middle West. The local accent is barbed with a prairie twang, a ranch-hand nasalness, and the men, many of them, wear narrow frontier trousers, Stetsons, and high-heeled boots with pointed toes. The land is flat, and the views are awesomely extensive; horses, herds of cattle, a white cluster of grain elevators rising as gracefully as Greek temples are visible long before a traveler reaches them. Holcomb, too, can be seen from great distances. Not that there's much to see simply an aimless congregation of buildings divided in the center by the main-line tracks of the Santa Fe Rail-road, a haphazard hamlet bounded on the south by a brown stretch of the Arkansas (pronounced "Ar-kan-sas") River, on the north by a highway, Route 50, and on the east and west by prairie lands and wheat fields. After rain, or when snowfalls thaw, the streets, unnamed, unshaded, unpaved, turn from the thickest dust into the direst mud. At one end of the town stands a stark old stucco structure, the roof of which supports an electric sign - dance - but the dancing has ceased and the advertisement has been dark for several years. Nearby is another building...

Gabriel's Inferno

...Prologue Florence, 1283 The poet stood next to the bridge and watched as the young woman approached. The world ground to a near standstill as he remarked her wide, dark eyes and elegantly curled brown hair. At first he didn’t recognize her. She was breathtakingly beautiful, her movements sure and graceful. Yet there was something about her face and figure that reminded him of the girl he’d fallen in love with long ago. They’d gone their separate ways, and he had always mourned her, his angel, his muse, his beloved Beatrice. Without her, his life had been lonely and small. Now his blessedness appeared. As she approached him with her companions, he bowed his head and body in a chivalrous salute. He had no expectation that his presence would be acknowledged. She was both perfect and untouchable, a browneyed angel dressed in resplendent white, while he was older, world-weary and wanting. She had almost passed him when his downcast eyes caught sight of one of her slippers — a slipper that hesitated just in front of him. His heart beat a furious tattoo as he waited, breathless. A soft and gentle voice broke into his remembrances as she spoke to him kindly. His startled eyes flew to hers. For years and years he’d longed for this moment, dreamed of it even, but never had he imagined encountering her in such a serendipitous fashion. And never had he dared hope he would be greeted so sweetly. Caught off balance, he mumbled his pleasantries and allowed himself the indulgence of a smile...

...Praise for The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down “Fadiman describes with extraordinary skill the colliding worlds of Western medicine and Hmong culture.” —The New Yorker “This fine book recounts a poignant tragedy…It has no heroes or villains, but it has an abundance of innocent suffering, and it most certainly does have a moral…[A] sad, excellent book.” —Melvin Konner, The New York Times Book Review “An intriguing, spirit-lifting, extraordinary exploration of two cultures in uneasy coexistence…A wonderful aspect of Fadiman’s book is her even-handed, detailed presentation of these disparate cultures and divergent views—not with cool, dispassionate fairness but rather with a warm, involved interest that sees and embraces both sides of each issue…Superb, informal cultural anthropology—eye-opening, readable, utterly engaging.” —Carole Horn, The Washington Post Book World “This is a book that should be deeply disturbing to anyone who has given so much as a moment’s thought to the state of American medicine. But it is much more…People are presented as [Fadiman] saw them, in their humility and their frailty—and their nobility.” —Sherwin B. Nuland, The New Republic 3/462 “Anne Fadiman’s phenomenal first book, The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down, brings to life the enduring power of parental love in an impoverished refugee family struggling to protect their seriously ill infant daughter and ancient spiritual traditions from the tyranny of welfare bureaucrats and intolerant...
