...Bienvenido Santos: The Day The Dancers Came AS soon as Fil woke up, he noticed a whiteness outside, quite unusual for the November mornings they had been having. That fall, Chicago was sandman's town, sleepy valley, drowsy gray, slumberous mistiness from sunup till noon when the clouds drifted away in cauliflower clusters and suddenly it was evening. The lights shone on the avenues like soiled lamps centuries old and the skyscrapers became monsters with a thousand sore eyes. Now there was a brightness in the air land Fil knew what it was and he shouted, "Snow! It's snowing!" Tony, who slept in the adjoining room, was awakened. "What's that?" he asked. "It's snowing," Fil said, smiling to himself as if he had ordered this and was satisfied with the prompt delivery. "Oh, they'll love this, they'll love this." "Who'll love that?" Tony asked, his voice raised in annoyance. "The dancers, of course," Fil answered. "They're arriving today. Maybe they've already arrived. They'll walk in the snow and love it. Their first snow, I'm sure." "How do you know it wasn't snowing in New York while they were there?" Tony asked. "Snow in New York in early November?" Fil said. "Are you crazy?" "Who's crazy?" Tony replied. "Ever since you heard of those dancers from the Philippines, you've been acting nuts. Loco. As if they're coming here just for you. Tony chuckled. Hearing him, Fil blushed, realizing that he had, indeed, been acting too eager, but Tony had said it. It felt that way--as...

...Who is Better: Chick –Fil- La or Zaxby’s? ECPI University We live in a world of convenience and everywhere you look there is a fast food restaurant around or popping up. Fast food is inexpensive, filling and tasty. Besides hamburger, chicken is one of the best fast foods around. We have KFC, Church’s, Golden Chicken, Chick Fil A, Zaxby’s, and etc. Chick-Fil-A and Zaxby’s are two of the greatest fast food restaurants known for their chicken are so much similar; however, very different. One could believe that Chick Fil A pulls ahead of the competition in social responsibility, price, and variety but we will see. Chick-Fil-A opened its first doors in 1946 and Zaxby’s in 1990; therefore, Chick-Fil-A has been around for a long time and able to perfect their mission versus Zaxby’s twenty years. As for social responsibilities Chick fil A “Over the past four years, Chick-fil-A, Inc. and its franchised Restaurant Operators have given more than $68 million in contributions to over 700 educational and charitable organizations and have provided millions of dollars in food donations all across America, in 2009-2011, Chick Fil A invested $13.5 million in day camps and overnight camps for thousands of boys and girls, and Chick-fil-A donates $3 million per year to operate 12 foster homes” ( CFA 2016). Another good thing that Chick Fil A does is not opening on Sunday’s for religious reasons. According to QSR Magazine (2015) Zaxby’s social responsibilities consist of the Make-A-Wish foundation...

...Cathy developed the pressure-cooked chicken breast sandwich in 1961 which made his fortune. Soon after creating the sandwich he opened the first Chick-fil-A restaurant in the Green briar Shopping Center in Atlanta. With only minor setbacks this company has become one of the largest privately owned restaurant chains in the country. Chick-fil-A included more than 1,800 restaurants in the United States By 2014. Cathy maintained his company’s focus on people rather than profits throughout his success, and for that reason Chick-fil-A would remain closed on Sundays, use an innovative formula for developing managers and restaurants, and provide college scholarships to employees. WinShape Camps is another part of the foundation that provides summer camps at Berry College for boys and girls. Chick-fil-A has always benen known to go beyond being a family-owned business and work hard at being family friendly. Truett Cathy and his wife took in more than 150 foster children and later established the WinShape Center Foundation, which supports foster care for disadvantaged children. He wrote and published several books about his early life and growing up and also his unexpected approach on the business world and business experiences...

...Techwood Homes (a public housing facility where the Cathy’s lived for a time) often to see me and others in our Sunday school class. He also invited us occasionally to go with him and (his son) Ted to his cabin on Lake Jackson.” Cathy would later say, “In time I came to understand that I could choose the type of model I would follow in life and I chose the example of Theo Abbey” (Cathy, 2002, pp. 29-30). Cathy’s second experience came during high school when he read Napoleon Hills’ book Think and Grow Rich. Cathy stated (Cathy, 200, p. 32), “I wasn’t all that bright. I had difficulty keeping up in class and I had always carried with me a bit of an inferiority complex regarding socializing at school and I never felt confident about dating girls. But I enjoyed my work and I enjoyed the rewards of working. As I read Mr. Hill’s book, I realized I could do anything if I wanted it badly enough. His words motivated me and showed me that I live in a do-it-yourself world.” Cathy went to work after high school for the United States Civil Service and then he was drafted into the Army. In late 1944, his unit was to join the fighting in the South Pacific but he was honorable discharged in 1945 after developing a skin allergy before he could ship out with his unit. In May of 1946, Cathy and his brother Ben pooled their personal resources and borrowed money to open a restaurant in the south-Atlanta suburb of Hapeville, Georgia called the Dwarf Grill which had four tables and 10 counter stools...

...The first, and most appalling example of this strict segregation in the film occurred when two girls arrived at the all-girls school, and excited to see one another outside of the school they began to excitedly explain to each other whatever teenage event had occurred in the lives over the weekend. As they approached the entrance of the school, an instructor scolded them for talking out of doors, and in the presence of a man (the schools maintenance person). She explained that “women’s voices should not be heard outside because it shows her nakedness,” (Wadjda, 2012, 00:900:00). Shortly thereafter, Wadjda and her classmates were playing a version of hopscotch in a school courtyard when a man appeared atop a nearby roof. Upon their realization that the girls were in clear view of the man they all began to wrap themselves with the hijabs, and scattered back into the building out of sight of the man. Wadjda decided to finish her turn, and was interrupted by one of her classmates who made clear that “respectable girls go inside to play where a man cannot see [us],” (2012, 00:11:00). As can be seen, Wadjda defies almost every cultural norm existent in Saudi culture. In fact, she is the perfect example of how one person can change cultural...

...Final Week of Senior Year This was the last year of our annual legacy game for our boys’ basketball team. The last year of all of us being forced to see one another when were not so found of one another at some point. The last of being around our favorite teachers. When we were having a bad day, and nothing seemed to be going right, we all had that one teacher to go to. There were no more, “Oh I’ll tell you Monday” when we had a laundry list of gossip to tell. There were not going to be any more of those dreadful Mondays that put an end to our weekends, or skipping school to go to the mall, or skipping class to go to the gym. This was the last year for the Class of 2015 at Crispus Attucks High School. Before we knew it, all we’d have left of high school would be our diplomas and our many memories. That’s why it was so important to make the most of our last week at our historic school on the North-West side of Indianapolis. Everyone has a senior week...

The entertainment and information industries have been developed through motion pictures, sound recordings, print serials, radio, television, computers, video games and the Internet. All these are now universally available and can distribute any form of content imaginable (Grimes et al., 2008). While the flow of technology continues to advance, humanity cannot help it but go along with it. The more people are inclined to the new technological advancements, the more they struggle with its various advantages and disadvantages. One of these technologies is the Internet. The Internet is a data communication system that provides connectivity between computers. It encompasses a variety of electronic forms of communication such as moving images, audio transmission, electronic mail, online chat, file transfer and sharing, and databases, some of which are live and in real time. ...Research Project: Leadership & Coordinators in Education CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION Most educational institutions in Lebanon are private for-profit organizations. However, because of their nature, they are social as well as economic organizations. They are responsible for educating an entire generation of workers, entrepreneurs, and politicians. This means that the educational system is responsible for the social and economic well-being of our entire country. Therefore, the success of these institutions is vital to our society, and any problems they may face must be identified and solved in order to better our economic and social status as a nation. Now, research on the role of subject coordinators in schools and universities has shown that this role can influence the successful implementation of the school’s vision which, in turn, will influence teacher performance and student results. The fact is that subject coordinators are a link between administrators and teachers thus making them essential players and leaders in implementing the school vision in the classroom, leading to a generation of students that are brighter and more prepared for the economic and social workplace. Sadly, the role of subject coordinators has been very unclear and vague, even in the West where Education research is ahead of most other parts in the world. This ambiguous role leads to confusion in implementing an academic agenda preparing smart and well-prepared students. Reviewing modern research, it...

This essay holds that Hamlet’s struggle with his femininity also contributes to his tragedy. Hamlet does exhibit some masculine traits such as courage, rationality and aggressiveness, but at the same time he is agonized to find that he is as weak, emotional, passive and dependent as a woman. In whatever cases he is placed either as a prince, a son or a lover, he is more identified with women than with men. Such a discovery tortures him and produces in him some sense of self-negation and self-hatred. Because of his deep-rooted patriarchal concept of gender identity, Hamlet cannot make a compromise with the feminine traits in him, and it somewhat prevents him from taking a masculine action to avenge his father. Key words: Hamlet; Femininity; Masculinity; Tragedy; Self-Hatred Résumé: Depuis des sicècles, le charme d’Hamlet se trouve largement dans un traitement subtil de Shakespeare de ce personnage et de nombreuses critiques...
