BPA has been used for over 40 years for hardening various products. It’s found in plastic bottles, sippy cups, food cans, medical devices, DVDs, etc. This chemical is a colorless, crystalline solid, organic compound that hardens plastic during manufacturing. As for the environment, there isn’t much controversy; BPA rapidly biodegrades in the environment. There are no adverse environment effects, but there is a problem with this chemical that lies somewhere else. Exposure to humans results from the use of plastics, BPA gets off from the plastic or the coating of food containers and enters the body and into the bloodstream. Over half of the population has some level of BPA in their bodies. There are various, potential health hazards when too

...efficiently regulating those products nationwide. Products containing phthalates, mercury, brominated flame retardants, and many other chemicals have been the subject of such bills but products containing bisphenol A (BPA) have attracted most attention in 2009 (Beveridge & Diamond, 2009). BPA is a monomer used to manufacture various everyday products. Research has found out that BPA is toxic on humans and products containing BPA leach a significant amount of BPA to their users. This paper gives a brief introduction of BPA, describes the debate surrounding its safety, and analysis information gathered by “the work group for safe markets” on BPA leaching from popular baby bottles. It is presumed that food and beverages from containers manufactured with BPA are harmful since BPA leaches into them and should be avoided. Uses of BPA and its Toxicology BPA is a monomer commonly used in the production of epoxy resins, polycarbonate plastic, among other uses (Association of Plastics Manufacturers). These products are in turn used to manufacture everyday products such as baby bottles, sports bottles and sippy cups (using polycarbonates); and the inner linings of containers for food and beverage packaging (using epoxy resins) (Association of Plastics Manufacturers). Other uses of BPA-containing materials include manufacturing of optical media such as CDs and DVDs; safety equipments, construction materials; medical equipments; dental sealants; composites for storage tanks, gas bottles, and windmill...

This led to an international conference entitled "Stable and Just Global Monetary System - The Islamic Dinar" organized by the International Islamic University in August 2002. After much research and consultation, a gold-based currency, called the ‘gold Dinar’, was put forth as a viable solution, and was expected to be implemented in 2003. This paper is an extension of the previous paper entitled "The Implementation of Gold Dinar. Is it the End of Speculative Measures?" published in the Journal of Economic Cooperation, SESRTCIC, Turkey volume 23, 2003. No 3. Keyword: Gold Dinar, Bilateral Payment Arrangement, Electronic Gold Payment System Introduction Several seminars and conferences were held in matters pertaining to gold Dinar in order to create the awareness of the government’s agencies, public and private sectors on the return of the gold Dinar as an international payment system. New Strategy Plan for Starbucks

...Organisation name: Starbucks Corporation Starbucks Corporation Report on the new strategy for Starbucks Corporation Terms of reference To investigate on the new strategy and to make appropriate recommendations as requested by the management consultant on the 23 September 2015 Procedure 1) Research has been done on the internet to justify the new strategy from 1 October 2015 to 22 October 2015. Findings 3.1 Alternative strategies relating to market entry/ substantive growth/ limited growth/ retrenchment for your customer. A limited growth strategy is a safer and smarter way to do business as aggressive growth strategy requires a large amount of risk such as entering new geographical markets. Limited growth is a lower risk mode of growth as it needs less start-up funds which include advertising and promotion. (Sherman, 2015) The strategy proposed was the implementation of Starbucks happy hour to give customers a promotion of half price on all drinks when they buy any tumbler or mug with the exception of the $1 reusable cup available in the US and Canada (Kosh, 2013). The promotion in this case will focus on the Starbucks goal to get 5 percent of beverages made in stores to be made in personal tumblers. Previously, Starbucks created a goal to achieve 25 percent of customers using their tumblers for beverages made in their store and will not be able to achieve this goal based on previous records (Starbucks Coffee Company, 2015). This promotion will then only qualify...

E-Counting

...Assembly Members will be announced by the relevant Constituency Returning Officers (CROs). This will take place in the count centre. The declarations of the Mayor of London and the 11 London-wide Assembly Members are made by the Greater London Returning Officer (GLRO). This will take place at City Hall once all of the votes have been counted. E-counting As in the previous Mayor of London and London Assembly elections, count staff will use electronic counting (or ‘e-counting’) machines to count the votes. Due to the scale and complexity of the elections – with three ballot papers and using three voting systems – e-counting means that Londoners can know who their Mayor and Assembly Members are quicker than they would if the votes were counted by hand. The e-counting machines and software will be supplied by IntElect, who won the contract after an open tender process. IntElect is a joint venture set up by Data Research Services (DRS) and the Electoral Reform Services (ERS). The system, process and software has been thoroughly tested throughout the development process by...

...University BUSI 602-B02: Non-Profit Management Professor Dr. Marjorie Carlson Hurst July 6, 2012 Author Note This paper was prepared for Non-Profit Management, Section BUSI 602, taught by Professor Dr. Marjorie Carlson Hurst.  Abstract The roots of America’s nonprofit, steam from the ancient traditions of charity, philanthropy, and voluntarism (Worth, 2012, p. 19). Charity can be defined as giving intended to meet current individual human needs or to alleviate current human suffering (Worth, 2012, p. 20). Volunteerism is defined as a very active process that requires active involvement with either the beneficiaries directly or an organization or group that serves a specific population in need (Worth, 2012, p. 20, 21). Virtually all cultures and religion include some emphasis on the importance of service to others, which includes giving or voluntary action (Worth, 2012, p. 19). The Bible teaches us, “Then the righteous will answer him, Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you? The King will reply, truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” (Matthew 25:31-46, NIV). This paper will examine the importance of a Christian worldview as it relates to nonprofit organizations. It will also evaluate and assess various...

Accounting

...Proposed Solution In order to improve the company’s operation and survive from the weak market caused by Global Financial Crisis, lots of changes are needed to be implemented internally on the company’s structure and procedures and externally on the enforcement of the updated market strategy. Business Process architecture (BPA) defined as ‘body of knowledge about the business processes that comprise a value chain’ (Harmon, 2007) attempts to improve processes to ensure business effectiveness and efficiency. The key element of BPA is to define and segment value based processes and link the processes to the strategy. It can be divided into many levels and activity is the smallest process. As shown in the “To-be” diagram, the quick customer responsiveness and effectively resource utilization can be achieved using business process management. When customer places an order, the value is created. Then the order is received by the sales department via customer database and decided to approve or not. If approved, the order becomes an effective order sent to the next process by internal system. If not, it becomes a dead one and is terminated at the same time. Through inventory level, the production department can check the availability of the raw materials at once. If it is insufficient, the production department can purchase from the external supplier by online trade and shorten the preparation time of materials. If there is enough on hand, they can assemble and send the finished goods...

Perinatal and Maternal Complications in Pregnant Due to Hypertension

...Chapter 1 Introduction Disorders related to hypertension are one of the most common medical complications during the pregnancy. It is also an important cause of maternal and preinatal morbidity and mortality worldwide (Baha, 1996). The term hypertension in pregnancy describes a broad spectrum of medical conditions, for which the pressure in the blood vessels varies widely. According to studies conducted by WHO (2004), hypertension causes complications in 5 to 7% pregnancies in the United Kingdom. The risks associated with hypertension are high for pregnant women and they are higher risk for complications such as organ failure, cerebrovascular accident, abruptio placentae and disseminated intravascular coagulation (Mark, 1998). Also hypertension creates complications for the featus and it is at the risk or intrauterine growth retardation, prematurity and intrauterine death. Hypertension is also a major cause of maternal, fetal and neo natal morbidity and mortality, not only in developing but in developed countries also,(Pesola (2001). The rate of eclampsia in the UK have fallen recently, hypertension during the pregnancy remains one of the main causes of maternal death. According to a study conducted by NICE one third of maternal morbidity was caused as a result of hypertensive conditions. Hypertensive disorders also carry a risk for the baby. In the most recent UK perinatal mortality report, 1 in 20 (5%) stillbirths in infants without congenital abnormality occurred...

...Bio 324 12/01/12 Plastics in the ocean Imagine the massive breadth and spread of our great state of Texas. Now imagine every milli-inch of that piled high with trash: bottle caps, cigarettes, cigarette lighters, tampon applicators, plastic nets, discarded flip flops, Frisbees, soda bottles, milk jugs, diapers, six-pack rings, busted tennis rackets, empty pens, shampoo bottles, empty squeeze bottles of jam, you name it. Now take that image, double it, and plunk into the water. That's what is floating around the eastern corner of a 10-million-square-mile oval known as the North Pacific subtropical gyre. Nicknamed the "Eastern Garbage Patch," this buoyant stew of toxic pollution-most of which is plastic-is only one of five such garbage heaps caught in the swirling high-pressure currents characteristic of gyres. The others reside in the South Pacific, the North and South Atlantic, and the Indian Ocean. And each year, perhaps unwittingly, each one of us adds to plastic to the heap. Plastic makes it into our oceans in a variety of ways. About twenty percent of it comes from goods lost from boats: i.e. accidental loss of fishing tackle and other recreational gear, massive shipping containers carrying millions of plastic items washed overboard during severe storms; litter from pleasure boats, or illegal dumping of unwanted goods. Beachgoer’s debris is also a contributor. The other eighty percent is swept in from land. Just as Nonpoint Source Pollution from fertilizers...

DINGLASAN October 2015 ABSTRACT Knowledge of the materials has always been necessary for those who design. With today’s stringent demand on quality regarding manufacture, materials and execution, it is often assumed that purchasers, architects and contractors posses the necessary knowledge of that with which they work. This paper described one of the commonly used engineering materials nowadays. Epoxy resin which is routinely used as adhesives, coating encapsulates, casting materials, potting compounds and binders. INTRODUCTION Epoxy resins were first commercialized in 1946 and are widely used in industry as protective coatings and for structural applications, such as laminates and composites, tooling, molding, casting, bonding and adhesives, and others. The ability of the epoxy ring to react with a variety of substrates gives the epoxy resins versatility. Treatment with curing agents gives insoluble and intractable thermoset polymers. Some of the characteristics of epoxy resins are high chemical and corrosion resistance, good mechanical and thermal properties, outstanding adhesion to various substrates, low shrinkage upon cure, good electrical insulating properties, and...
