The Braceros Program and the immigration process
Immigration plays a big role in the world’s economy and the United States is one of the top countries in relation to the immigrants traffic, both incoming and outgoing. Nowadays, the American government has come up with a large number of strict laws in order to control such transit and prevent undocumented entries, but it has not always been like this. In fact, during World War II and the years beyond that, the American government was in need of immigrants in order to get the economy going and to provide enough labor for the demand. Mexico was a neighbor country with lower wages, therefore an easier task for the government to deal with.
The solution was to make a series of laws and political bilateral agreements with Mexico to import workers. But the Mexican Government was expected to lay down certain conditions for its approval of the American plan. Unregulated hiring of its citizens for employment abroad had been prohibited by Article 123 of the Constitution of 1917, which provided that such employment must be validated by local municipal authorities and by the employer’s consular representative, and on the basis of a formal contract, since American government had kicked out over 50,000 immigrants to Mexico due to the great depression.
The demands for Mexican farm workers that were rejected by the United States Department of Agriculture and the Department of Justice in 1941 were happily established in the spring of the subsequent year. This program was called Emergency Farm Labor Program, popularly known as the Braceros Program; a name derived from the words “strong arms” in Spanish. Starting during World War II, it was one of the first legal guest workers program as a response to the labor shortages caused by the war and it encouraged many Mexican men to work in thousands of temporary jobs in the United States.

...agricultural economy was the creation of the Bracero Program in which more than 4 million Mexican farm laborers came to work the fields of this nation. The braceros converted the agricultural fields of America into the most productive in the planet. The Bracero Program was a corporative international program through which the United States imported large number of Mexicans workers (mostly farmworkers). This program came about because of farm labor shortages caused by American entry into World War 11. The men were recruited to work primarily in agriculture, although during World War II braceros also supplied railroad labor. The majority of the braceros were experienced farm labors from important agricultural regions of Mexico. Huge numbers of bracero candidates arrived by train to the northern border. Their arrival altered the social environment and economy of many border towns. The program brought Mexican workers to replace American workers dislocated by the war. The program was intended to be temporary, but because of dependence of American farms on Mexican labor it kept going for nearly two decades after the war. The braceros contracts were controlled by independent associations and the Farm Bureau. The contracts were in English and the braceros would sign them without understanding theor full rights and the conditions of employment. When the contracts expired, the braceros were required to turn in their permits and return to México. The braceros could return to their native lands...

Bracero Program Case Study

...Why did the Bracero Program make it difficult to organize farmworkers into a union? The Bracero Program made it difficult to organize farmworkers into a union because the plant owners were too strong and in power. They felt inferior because the Americans plant owners were the ones paying them. And felt that they didn't had the same rights to fight for their believes. The plant owners were treated them with harm instead of treating them as human being. When the war came to an end the mexicans needed to immigrate to a different plantation of the need of money, either way it was difficult to stand for what they believed in. . Negative Message Memo

...Smythe From: Director of Human Resources Date: April 20, 2011 Subject: Volunteer Program I am writing this memo in response to the email request that you sent me about adding the Center for Non-Violence to our volunteer program. I would like to start off by saying that we here at Dawson & Engels greatly appreciate your input and your interest in expanding our volunteer program to better help the community. However, we are not going to be able to include the program you suggested in our list of company volunteer programs. The reason we cannot include this program is not because of what it currently does, but because of how it’s past may concern certain members of our company. The organization in question has a history of protesting military action in response to political problems. This specific part of the organization's background could offend veterans and the families of soldiers who are currently active. In order to ensure that none of our customers or employees are upset, declining this particular organization seems like the best decision. I understand your reasons for suggesting this organization, because they do a lot of great work with helping to provide conflict resolutions in schools. I have gotten to see how this program works first hand and I agree that it does help out with the vast number of violent outbreaks that are going on in schools. Even though this program could not be added to our company list, I encourage you to help out with the organization...

Policy Elements

...The organization that I have chosen to write about throughout this course, I could not find any programs or organizations they sponsor. So for the purpose of this assignment I will just write about the Guardian ad Litem program itself. I could easily give an analysis of this organization based off the six policy elements. This organization is awesome and I would recommend checking it out. The missions, goals, and objectives are great for this organization. The mission statement is: “Advocating for the child’s best interest is the Program’s only purpose. These Program Standards are to be interpreted to support the mission”. (Guardian ad Litem, 2004) This organizations goals & objectives are simple for powerful. This organization is purely to help children in the courts system. They believe that a child should be loved and have safe environment no matter what. The forms of benefits and services delivered are coordinated with the courts. On this org’s website they provide a standard of operations and it explains everything, having to do with benefits and services. Entitlement rules are easy for this org; it is solely for the children in the court system that has no voice. This org speaks for them in the courts when no one else will. This organization has a set of standards they go by for these two policies. Guardian ad Litem depends on many for their funding. Crime Causation and Diversion Paper

...behavior is an ongoing topic of discussion for law enforcement officials and agencies. There are many programs geared toward helping juveniles to cope with their issues and receive the help and treatment needed to be successful in life. In the city of Petersburg, Virginia there is a Firesetters Program. This program addresses the problem of fires set by children. A Juvenile Firesetter is a child typically between the ages of 4 and 14 who exhibits an unusual interest or curiosity in fires, or a child with a history of fire play. This program also seeks to find the reason behind the setting of fires or what triggers the child to set fires. Some reasons could be the divorce of parents, frustration, anger, loneliness, a crisis at home, death, or issues or problems at school ( City of Petersburg, 2015). This program also meets with the parents and the child or children to conduct confidential sessions with the Public Educator or Fire Marshal. An interview is conducted to try to find out how long the problem has existed, the primary reason for it, and the dangers associated with it. An evaluation is done and follow up visits are scheduled for the child. Another diversion program in the state of Virginia is the Community Services Program. This program allows youth to work without pay in a government or non-profit agency and it is an alternative program for active jail time. Channeling Students Into a Gifted Program

...Channeling students into a gifted program There is a four step protocol for channeling students into a gifted program. Those steps are; early intervention, identifying students, what the program offers, and what the students will experience. Let’s start with early intervention: Early intervention has the ability to enhance a child’s development, increase the child’s and families benefit to society and receive full support from the staff. Children who come across as gifted are given two tests to determine just how gifted they are. One of those test is based on their academics and the other is based on their creativity. This is way to determine if any intervention needs to put into motion and helps determine just how gifted they are. The second step is identifying just how the students qualify for the program. There is a series of steps that can help determine if a child is gifted. One is a child’s test scores, any child who can score above the 85 percentile can be a candidate for the gifted programs. A teacher nomination is one other way to qualify. Teachers are informed of all students who have received entrances through teacher nominations. Gifted students have to have the ability to excel in their studies, and must remain focused on their school work. The gifted programs can offer full support from their teachers, parental involvement in their education, lessons in self-motivation, grade level advancement, and excellent academic recommendations for future college course...

Nectar Case Solution

...1. Is there any evidence that the program pays out for Sainsbury? Elaborate. Sainsbury’s had been losing market share until partnering with Nectar and then became U.K.’s second largest supermarket chain after the first year of using the program. They also discovered weekly spending was 40% greater among people collecting points from several sponsors than only from Sainsbury’s. A study suggested that Sainsbury’s gained market share from non-Nectar retailers through gasoline sales due to the competition between BP and Sainsbury’s with Nectar. Sainsbury’s benefited from the Nectar program by: · Increasing the frequency of customer’s visits and spending more per transaction · Acquiring new customers · Retaining current customers · Up-selling to customers to buy higher margin products While Sainsbury’s was the dominant sponsor, there had been a steady decrease in its importance. In the launch month, four out of five collectors earned points from Sainsbury’s alone. Within six months, half had earned points from a second sponsor and at the anniversary 30% earned from one, 60% from two and 10% from three sponsors. Spending at Sainsbury’s was greater among collectors earning points from multiple sources than from Sainsbury’s alone. Weekly spending at Sainsbury’s was 40% greater when people collected from them and two other sponsors than from Sainsbury’s alone. It also became apparent that collectors who earned points from multiple sponsors...
