SPOILERS AHEAD In Marie Lu’s dystopian novel, Prodigy, we follow the story of Day and June, the main characters, who have rebelled from their supposedly terrible Republic, as they attempt to complete their mission to escape the Republic and fulfill their personal needs for their families, friends, and People of the Republic. Through Day’s and June’s experiences through the book, we learn that everyone is not always who the seem. The story begins in Los Vegas, where Day and June are trying to get assistance from the Patriots, another opposing group of the Republic. They believe that Patriots can help Day find his little brother, Eden, who was stolen by the Republic. To their surprise,…show more content… Through the midst of all the chaos, Kaede, a Patriot, finds Day and June and takes them to her leader Razor, otherwise known as Commander DeSoto, to have them pledge their allegiance to the Patriots. Day and June ask Razor to assist them in finding Eden and fixing Day’s leg, in which Razor responds by making a deal; if Day and June agree to help the Patriots to assassin the new Elector, he would help them in return. June and Day agree. As the plot continues further into the rising action, June and Day go their separate ways, as a part of Razors plan. Day stays to get surgery on his injured leg, while June heads off to Denver, to decoy the new elector into the first step in Razor’s overall plan. She has dinner with him and takes a lie detector test to prove she is loyal to the Republic, gaining Anded’s trust in the process. Afterwards, Anden talks privately with June about his plans to make the Republic a better place, gaining her trust in return. Then, during the climax, June signals for Day to stop the assassination, because she genuinely believes that Anden is a good person and is the change that the Republic needs. Day sees this signal, but decides not to take action because he has too
