In the small town of Mallard was a dedicated young woman, Brigette Lacquette. Brigette had begun to pursue her dream of becoming a talented female hockey player at the age of five years old. Brigette is someone to look up to, she is an amazing role model and an outstanding defenseman, her instincts, abilities and fluid play make her a key player in all aspects of the game, she is a leader and a role model for many reasons and accepts this responsibility with pride. When Brigette was younger, she hadn't only faced bullying, but rasicm as well. Brigette shares that when she was at her first summer league hockey tournament, she was called a dirty Indian and was told that she should go back to her reserve. The situatiion upset Brigette dearly, Brigettes father had told her "Just beat her on the ice, and be the better person." After those words of encouragement, Brigette was able to move forward, and Instead of allowing racial taunts to negatively impact her life, she chooses to rise above it.…show more content… When Brigette had first begun to play hockey, she said her parents were still on welfare. Brigette had lived in a reserve that hadn't sponsored a hockey team, meaning she had to drive out in order to be on a team. Brigette had to drive fifty miles, four times a week for hockey practise as she played on both a boys team and a girls team. Brigette has two siblings, Tara who is the oldest of three and is a goalie on the womens team at the university of Calgary, and 16 year old Taran, who plays in the Manitoba Triple A Midget hockey League for the Parkland Rangers. Brigettes parents are dedicated to helping them suceed with their hockey careers, in fact, Brigettes father had spent most of his time trying to help them become better players.
