...Beautiful Day There is this place just a few blocks away from my house where I like to go to get away. It’s called The Rock in Pawnee Rock. Early in the morning it can be so peaceful and quiet with beautiful wet dew still on the grass. As the sun comes up you see the colors surrounding the bright sky. Nothing more radiant as the sun on a bright morning. As I look around I can see every house in this small town, plus the long stretch of highway from great bend to larned. You see cars buzzing by on the highway and hear the hum of a nearby lawn being mowed with the smell of fresh cut grass in the air. The tall stone pillars remind me of the brave Indians that lost their lives in battle on these grounds. The jagged rocks around make me think of when I was a child and loved to climb onto the tallest rocks I could find, as I would stand at the top of the hill and felt like king of the world. Too Busy To Stand Still At the rock early in the morning the world seems so eerie and dark. The sun still shining but the lives of Indians passed still feel as if they are lingering in this hollow place. As I stand at the top of the hill you see the once lovely plaques dedicated to the Indians that lost their lives on these grounds, which is now riddled full of bullet holes. The walls and the tall pillars now covered in obscene spray paint, surely contaminated by the younger generation with nothing better to do. As you hear the loud cars busily driving by, you wonder if anyone ever...

People have been immigrating to the US as early as the 1600’s. And what are they doing? Seeking the freedom that our country has to offer, of course! Have a look at the illustration An Ocean Steamer Passing the Statue of Liberty: Scene on the Steerage Deck. It’s easy to draw the conclusion that the people aboard the ship are immigrants coming to the promised land of America. The Statue of Liberty...

...“All brawn, no brain” In the novel Of Mice and Men, written by John Steinbeck, every man symbolizes their larger group. Lennie Small symbolizes different things but he is mostly symbolic to the archetype, “all brawn, no brain.” He is very childish and innocent, but is strong as a bull. Lennie is not aware of how strong he really is. The consequences of him being so strong and not very bright gets him in huge trouble. The novel shows his all around character and portrays his simple life and how he handles it. Lennie is a hard and dedicated worker on the ranch. He is huge in size and is strong as bull. The boss pointed a playful finger at Lennie. "He ain't much of a talker, is he?" "No, he ain't, but he's sure a hell of a good worker. Strong as a bull." Lennie smiled to himself. "Strong as a bull," he repeated. George scowled at him, and Lennie dropped his head in shame at having forgotten. (35-38) Even though he’s strong and a good worker, he is not very bright. He will do anything you tell him to but is often forgetful. Lennie can’t help how he is, he was just born this way....

...One example being, “O, she doth teach the torches to birth bright/it seems she hangs upon the cheek of night/as a rich jewel in an Ethiop’s ear” (13). This is showing the fact that Romeo thinks Juliet shines so bright, like a fire in the dark of night or a jewel against the color of skin. He shows his infatuation again when he says, “It is the east and Juliet is the sun” (16). This means that Juliet is the light coming out after the night and giving light to the day. The two of these quotes are representing the happiness Romeo has because they are saying that Juliet is all of these wonderful bright things. This imagery is showing his love for her yet setting up the fact that love is very brutal because even though at this point in their lives they are in love, there are several things going on that are going against them, Lord Capulet is telling Juliet to marry Paris, the Capulet's and Montague's hate each other, and Romeo has a history of changing his love very quickly. Shakespeare uses imagery mainly in order to show Romeos great love for every girl he knows. The things he says make it seem as if he is fully dedicated to one girl but thinking about the brutality of love’ it is known that that is not the case. Sometimes a boy seems like he loves one girl with everything he has, but it so quickly changes once he is turned down...

...Yesterday Mr. Andrew Cooper, a well-respected speaker, was in Hamilton. He was there to give a speech to raise awareness about ex-convicts at an event organized for the various stakeholders in Hamilton. It took place in the Town hall. The event started at 10AM and lasted for 4 hours. Mr. Cooper was invited to come and give a speech to raise awareness about the difficulties ex-convicts face and how hard it was for them to re-integrate into society. The reason for his invitation to speak on the aforementioned topic was because it had been noticed that most employers had been discriminating against ex-convicts whose criminal records had not been expunged. It was widely believed, before Mr. Cooper gave his speech, that things were going to change in the employment sector. Mr. Cooper has gained accolades from all over the country for his work in helping ex-convicts. He has been known to do this by going from city to city and giving speeches about the good virtues of ex-convicts. Mr. Cooper arrived Hamilton by 9:30AM and went straight to the Town hall to begin preparing for his speech. Mr. Cooper was met with thunderous applause as he got on the podium. Mr. Cooper started off his speech by asking, “How would you all feel if you were discriminated against for something you did a long time ago?” From the beginning of his speech it was obvious that he was going to try to reach out to the public by getting them to put themselves in the shoes of an ex-convict. ...
