A perforated dress boot, commonly called a ‘brogue’, ‘oxford brogue’, or ‘wingtip’, originated from Ireland (Hall, 71), and was popularized due to the functionality and breathability supplied by it’s broguing along the seams. A pile. A heap of refuse, commonly called ‘garbage’, ‘trash’, or ‘rubbish’, is the byproduct of most foods/goods, and occurs when something has completely exhausted it’s use. Brogues and garbage are synonymous in this sense, as they both have totally run their course. The main problem with brogues is the fact that they are still being worn today. The Brogues’ specific niche is outdated, and can be better accomplished with a pair of galoshes if one is going to be travelling in a swamp. Brogues also are not in style, and would look better if one were wearing basically any other shoe. Brogues can be easily replaced with a pair of clean oxfords or monks, and will always look better without the pattern. They are not comfortable for running, and have inferior breathability compared to select other dress shoes. They have little to no traction, and are not any good for hiking, as they have a thin sole and weak leather reinforcements. These weak enforcements can cause blistering with heavy use, and are uncomfortable as a whole.
Some people could counter this by saying that the brogue is a great all around choice if one is in more than one of these situations. The answer to this statement is yet again a resounding no. The reason is because while the brogue does accomplish many jobs, it accomplishes them all poorly. Even if worn purely to be different, the wearer comes off as imprudent because of just how bad they truly look. Brogues will always be overshadowed by other boot choices, and are outperformed in every category by most dress
