Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko's The Legend of Korra follows the growth and maturation process of Korra as she journeys away from her home to fulfill her duties as Avatar. As a headstrong teenager, Korra's inability to complete her Avatar training and her struggles to beat the antagonists, Amon and the Equalist movement, fluster her. When Korra overcomes trials and passes thresholds, she becomes more humble, self-aware, resilient, and patient. At the start, Korra finds herself out of sorts with her environment, in need of change, and motivated with the purpose of becoming a spiritually and physically realized Avatar. As the show progresses, Korra crosses her first threshold by fighting Amon for the first time, undergoes many tests…show more content… When Amon and the Equalists capture one of Korra's friends, Bolin, Korra looks for him and encounters the ogre, Amon, for the first time at an Equalist rally. With that encounter, Korra reaches the first threshold. Amon reveals his plan at the rally: "Since the beginning of time, the spirits have acted as guardians of our world, and they have spoken to me. They say the Avatar has failed humanity . . . and have granted me a power that will make equality a reality. The power to take a person's bending away permanently" (DiMartino et al). Amon exemplifies his role as the "Keeper of the Status Quo" with his intent to remove Korra's bending ability and hinder any chance of her airbending and spiritual growth. By saving Bolin and enduring her initial experience with Amon, Korra proves that she will put herself at risk to save others, crosses the first threshold, and enters the underworld. The Equalists attack Korra many times and even capture her. During Korra's confinement, Korra receives spiritual visions from her predecessor, Aang. In the visions, Aang puts his life at risk by fighting off Republic City's greatest threat to peace, but Aang survives and peacefully solves the problem by taking away the criminal's bending. Korra's meeting with Aang, the god, leads Korra to a greater understanding of how to deal with culprits. Korra becomes an archetypal hero…show more content… When the Equalists kidnap Tenzin and his family for information on Korra, Tenzin refuses to give information about Korra leading to the separation of hero from guide. Since Tenzin and his family mean so much to Korra, Korra realizes that she has to mature and fight Amon by herself to save Tenzin's family. During her fight with Amon, Amon dominates Korra and takes her bending away. Korra keeps on fighting, airbends for the first time, and defeats Amon. When Korra learns how to airbend and defeats Amon, she achieves apotheosis, defeats the Status Quo, and crosses the final threshold back into the upper world. As Korra emerges in the world of light, she enters as a self-aware and resilient person. Finally, Korra wants to restore her earth, water, and firebending abilities and the bending abilities of others. When she realizes that she can only bend air and can not restore the bending of others, she feels very depressed and shows humility even after saving the world from Amon. As she cries, Aang and all the other past Avatars appear to raise her mood: "You have finally connected with your spiritual self. When we hit our lowest point, we are open to the greatest change" (DiMartino et al). The past Avatars restore her ability to bend all four elements and teach her how to restore bending, but more importantly Korra completes her journey to heroism by maturing, helping others,
