On August 24, 1955, 14-year-old- Emmet Till went into Bryant’s Grocery Store in Money, Mississippi, to purchase bubble gum. Emmett till reportedly whistled at the white store owner, Carolyn Bryant. Four days later, Bryant husband, Roy Bryant, and his half-brother, J.W. Milam, kidnapped and tortured Till, then shot him to the right cranium carrying out their own justice. Three days later, Emmet Till’s body was recovered of the Tallahatchie River. On September 23, 1955, an all-white jury acquitted Roy Bryant and J.W. Milam of murder. Months later, Roy Bryant and J.W.
