Introduction
Application architecture is the organizational design of an entire software application. This design includes all sub-components, as well as external application interchanges, and is designed to meet the objectives of the system requirements, set forth by the client and stakeholders at hand. The current goal and objective is finding out the best design for the company. Riordan’s current HRIS system is functional, at the least, but with the right design, could be transformed into an amazing application.
Riordan Operational Requirements
Riordan must integrate the new HR CRM system with current software. Since the system requires integration with employee’s desktop computers, a client-server architecture would be most beneficial. This would allow for better storage, flexibility to allow different OS to connect, and reduction in costs which is a long term benefit for the company. The client-server architecture would be best to integrate employee desktops.
Riordan Performance Requirements
Riordan is interested in a high-tech system to integrate the mountains of Human Resource forms and documents. They expect high performance in their new integrated system. This is the reason why we have chosen the client-server architecture. Due to increased scalability, availability, reliability, and better response times with this architecture, Riordan will benefit by easier integration of hardware and speed requirements of the comprised systems. Since the aforementioned features greatly depend upon the operating system utilized, Riordan will upgrade to the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system (Wixom Roth, 2014).

Riordan Security Controls and Requirements
The client-server architecture will increase Riordan’s security due to the fact that all software will be housed in one location, making mainframe operating systems more secure. Using advanced authentication and encryption controls, Riordan will benefit from this advanced architecture by reducing potential issues with viruses and malware that is running amok on the World Wide Web. Protection is guaranteed not to spread across employee desktop computers because software is not housed on the client device, but rather the server-based architecture model (Wixom Roth, 2014). Due to the sensitivity of Riordan’s business and employee data files, assurance must be given to the privacy and confidentiality of data records. Internet-based employers who deal with human resource information must take the possibility of attacks seriously. Many of the security breaches, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), have come from within the organization. Riordan must decide who will have access to data and how much access each employee is provided. According to the FBI.gov (2013) website, companies can enhance security of data by doing a few things. First, use screening processes to select new employees, with through background checks. Second, educate and regularly train employees on security protocols and routinely monitor computers for suspicious activity. And third, ensure that confidential data is protected, and ensure that all security personnel have the tools they need.
Conclusion

Riordan Manufacturing Systems

...Riordan Manufacturing Systems BSA/375 October 6, 2014 Riordan Manufacturing Systems Hugh McCauley, COO, has submitted a service request for the Human Resources (HR) department to integrate the department's current systems into one integrated application. Mr. McCauley is the main point of contact for this project. The systems analyst has reviewed the service request and studied a listing of what systems are currently in place. Using the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodology, the analyst should complete the request within the six month time frame requested by Mr. McCauley. Completing this request on time will allow the HR department to use the new system by the second quarter of the next year (University of Phoenix, 2011). Project Overview The current system is linked to a financial systems package that only keeps track of employee information. Many of the sub-systems were created and are run by individuals such as managers or data entry clerks. Currently, there are seven different sub-systems operating within the HR department. All but one sub-system is run internally by Riordan personnel. Workers' Compensation is outsourced to a third-party provider, which uses its system and keeps its records. The sub-systems use different methods of collecting and viewing data. The common thread seems to be the use of Excel. Hard copy files are stored in random locations such as locked files in offices or a central storage area. There is little consistency in...

Proposed Frequent Shopper Rewards Program

...Kudler Fine Foods – Proposed Frequent Shopper Rewards Program BSA/375 Todd Feuerherm December 21, 2014 Introduction In Figure 1, we have a basic example of the data being processed through our reward point’s program database. First we have qualifying purchases that determine what points from purchases are rewarded in the transaction. Then we have a designated purchase behavior section that will determine what the customer mostly likes in their purchases and what they mostly buy. Total allocated points are information of points gathered from the customer’s purchases and the total amount available in their rewards history. Preferred purchases is also their purchase behavior but a little more in-depth of what the customers like and are more likely to have interest in when making another purchase. This helps give out certain advertisements to our customers that, through their purchasing behavior, they will find most interesting and highly probable of purchasing. Scope For the scope of this project, implementing a tracking system for customer loyalty is the primary scope of the improvement. The implementation will have an effect throughout the organization as the new Information Technology (IT) customer tracking system will be implemented organization wide. Therefore the scope of examination should be limited to the sales and marketing sections. Scope creep should be limited to changes that provide a significant tangible or intangible impact on the overall business. Functions...

EFSA Scientific Report (2009) 231, 1-107 © European Food Safety Authority, 2009 Review of the potential health impact of β-casomorphins and related peptides SUMMARY Proteins are a very diverse family of large organic compounds involved in many important biological processes. Following their enzymatic hydrolysis during food processing or digestion, proteins may release fragments from their primary amino acid sequence. These fragments are called peptides, and many of them are known to be physiologically active. The possible beneficial effects of bioactive peptides have attracted increasing interest in recent years. On the other hand, there are also reports suggesting that some food-derived peptides might adversely affect human health. Among these, β-casomorphin-7 (BCM7), a peptide sequence present in the milk protein β-casein, has been suggested to...

Isolation of Rare Circulating Tumour Cells in Cancer Patients

Sequist2*, Shyamala Maheswaran2, Daphne W. Bell2{, Daniel Irimia1, Lindsey Ulkus2, Matthew R. Smith2, Eunice L. Kwak2, Subba Digumarthy2, Alona Muzikansky2, Paula Ryan2, Ulysses J. Balis1{, Ronald G. Tompkins1, Daniel A. Haber2 & Mehmet Toner1 Viable tumour-derived epithelial cells (circulating tumour cells or CTCs) have been identified in peripheral blood from cancer patients and are probably the origin of intractable metastatic disease1–4. Although extremely rare, CTCs represent a potential alternative to invasive biopsies as a source of tumour tissue for the detection, characterization and monitoring of non-haematologic cancers5–8. The ability to identify, isolate, propagate and molecularly characterize CTC subpopulations could further the discovery of cancer stem cell biomarkers and expand the understanding of the biology of metastasis. Current strategies for isolating CTCs are limited to complex analytic approaches that generate very low yield and purity9. Here we describe the development of a unique microfluidic platform (the ‘CTC-chip’) capable of efficient and selective separation of viable CTCs from peripheral whole blood samples, mediated by the interaction of target CTCs with antibody (EpCAM)-coated microposts under precisely controlled laminar flow conditions, and without requisite...
