Reassurance
Good morning, I first would like to welcome you to our establishment. We try to make the transition from an independent living to a little more structured living as smoothly as possible. I would like to discuss with you today the social position, need for accessible health care, transitions that will be made, relationships, and how these all effect older adults. I will also be addressing the personality and social development your loved one may face. I will also try to address with the gentleness that our establishment likes to fulfill and discuss the change that may have occurred within marriage, family and peer relationships.
During this delicate time their role in society may have changed. You may have seen them become more withdrawn from the daily activities that you once had seen them do. One of our goals is to attempt to bring them around to a different way of thinking and with care make them feel part of their own life again. This can be done with a small amount of position status within the home. We like to challenge our residents into being a part of their growth and possible recovery time while with us. Our position in helping the clients here is too help them recover if possible and return to a comfortable living arrangement within the home if a long time is needed for the client and in some cases it is easier on the family also. We try and engage them in the role that they have previously been used to up to and without limiting them to try and achieve a role that is comfortable to them.
When we started to design this home we looked at the limited space that most nursing homes have. We tried to accommodate the ideas that we received from numerous people in other homes that would be beneficial to them if they had a choice. We took into consideration that if they were able to get around easier, like in a wheelchair or assisted walking there would be room in the hallways for them to move freely. We have also enabled them to have a medical call either on their wrist or neck so if they felt like they were in danger at any time one of our staff would be able to go and assist.
There were other health care problems which could affect the way some of the clients sleep habits where. We considered the fact that most clients wake and sleep at different times to allow them their freedom we tried to accommodate the clients as far as their eating schedule and med pass needed to be done at the same time every day. The staff here came up with a plan devised to help those who liked to snack during the day. We opted for fruit, but to our surprise they sometimes just wanted to be able to make themselves a sandwich so there was a special kitchen designed for just that the snack room we like to call it.
I would also like to address the transition that your loved one maybe making from working to retirement. Most have already come to an adjustment stage that allows for the client to move forward and find a hobby or even exercise they may enjoy. . This allows for the client to keep busy like they are used too during their working career. We also have a craft room in which some of our both men and women work together on projects like quilting or even painting. I have even seen some of the women posing for the men to paint which seems to bring joy to both parties. We like to encourage anything that is safe and that they are interested in. We have thought of having a shallow pool but in for exercise, but there are a lot of concerns we will have to take care of prior to making this decision. We feel the longer we can keep the client busy and active to their ability the longer their life span.
We are also dedicated to accommodate the clients who are married to have their spouses come at any time during the day to allow the client a still personal contact with their spouse. We feel as though the interaction will benefit the time with s in a more comfortable marriage and make them feel closer to home this way. If there is a need for the both of them to require our services we will make sure to have them placed together unless they do not wish this to be done. As a family I can already see your love and concern that you have for your family member. We try to limit big visit’s to the weekend this means if more than one of you were to visit we would require that you let the staff know in advancement so we can make sure there are no important visit’s to the doctor and things that requires us to transport. Having relationships of any kind if positive in nature we encourage our clients to have well rounded number of spouse, family, and peer relationships as it will create a positive environment for them during their stay.
When dealing with social policies one of the biggest problems today is the care that a lot of homes show towards their clients. A damning report by NHS watchdog, the Care Quality Commission, has cited poor standards of care and detached nursing when it comes to older people (Harris, C., 2012). This is one of the measures in which we have tried to overcome as a stigmatism. The other social policies that have been hard to overcome are those of health care, human services and inequality.
I hope that all the information that I have given to you today will make you feel comfortable about leaving your loved one in our care. We strive to be the best at maintaining a home like status for all who room here if we treat our clients with respect we believe that there stay will be enjoyed instead of hindered. If at any time you do not feel I have given the information honestly please feel free to ask me to re-evaluate our goals to you. I say this because everyone has difficulties sometimes and I will personally hold my staff liable for anything they do wrong and if termination is required I will not hesitate to do so.
