First in building a network we must figure out what cable will be used for our telecommunication rooms. Category 5e twisted-pair copper cable is the most common and inexpensive cabling used today. Next we will need to have the right set of tools for building or telecommunication room. Lastly we need to figure out what type of testing will be performed to see if everything runs properly. The advantages of using the CAT5e cable is that it is an upgraded version of CAT 5 that adds specifications for reducing electromagnetic interference from a twisted pair unshielded to another twisted pair. CAT5e also provides greater signal-carrying capacity. Another advantage of using a CAT5e cable is its support for Ethernet, Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet. Bandwidth is important because it provides information that contains a part of the system. Finally CAT5e upgrade the thickness of the PVC protective coating which has improved the longevity of the cable. For new installations, including cable and crossover, CAT5e provides the speed and CAT6 capacity, but on a much better price. Now that we know what cable we will be using next is the equipment required to build our physical network. Since we are running CAT5e cable we will need to use patch panels to act as a midway. All the wiring will need to be punched down and attached to the back of the patch panel. The front is made up of RJ-45 connectors into which patch cables connect. This prevents any damage to the room wires. Now that we have our patch panels we will need our patch cable. Patch cables, usually called jumper cables will connect the patch panel to the hubs, connect workstations to the wall jacks, or connect multiple hubs.
