...When you think about a house from the 1930’s, you generally think about the small two- story house complete with an attic, front porch, wallpaper on all the walls, and wood panel exterior walls. This is why the world was in awe when they saw displayed on the cover of the TIME Magazine on January 17th, 1938 the beautiful house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright known as Fallingwater. The house was so beautiful and so stunning that it was named by many as Wright’s masterpiece. So what makes this building so beautiful? What makes it stand out from every other building in the world? Well, what about the waterfall that goes right through the building? By incorporating the waterfall into the building itself, gives the house a very natural look. Also, Wright...

...Jeannette Walls’s Memoir, she describes how her father, Rex, wants to build a glass castle for him and his family to live in. In the book, she writes, “...All of Dad’s engineering skills and mathematical genius were coming together in one special project: a great big house he was going to build for us in the desert” (Walls 25). Rex wanted to make this happen for his family but unfortunately, his plans weren’t so realistic. So if I could build a glass castle the location of my glass castle would be in Atlanta, GA. I chose this location because I have family down there and I always travel down south every year. I chose to have 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a kitchen, an attic, a living room, a dining room, patio, and a basement. I chose to have these things because if I’m going to have a dream house I want it to be realistic, I don’t want to have unrealistic things that I know I’m not going to be able to afford. My favorite...

...English 102 - #3300 9 November 2014 Paper #1- Resubmit edition The struggles to achieve the American Dream in The House on Mango Street Sandra Cisneros is the author of several books including The House on Mango Street. She has been writing for more than forty-five years, publishing for more than thirty-five years. The House on Mango Street was first published in 1984, and has sold over two million copies since its initial publication and is still selling strongly today. The book tells the story of Esperanza Cordero, whose neighborhood is one of harsh realities and natural beauty. The house on Mango Street is not the house, which Esperanza has been dreaming about; however, it is symbolical of the struggles to achieve the American Dream. That dream of the young girl depicts a reality. The house on Mango Street has much better quality than the third floor on Loomis, which is where the Esperanza lived before. That improvement shows that Esperanza’s family is trying to make their dream come true, little by little in changing their lives. It also proves that her family can achieve the dream of the real house. The house on Mango Street depicts a house in which the family resides. In any event, the place on Loomis is merely a third floor that Esperanza cannot proudly admit that it is her house to the nun passing by. Esperanza describes the gloomy third floor as, “The house on Mango Street is ours and we don’t have to pay rent to anybody or share the yard with people downstairs...

...My Dream Travel Destination We not only broaden our horizons but also open our eyes to the world by traveling. And we also can experience different culture through the trip. We will be sure to experience many new things when traveling. My dream travel destination is Australia. It is the largest country in Oceania, and most of its people live in the east of the country by the sea. Because the climate there is warm and comfortable, many people spend vocations there. And there are many tourist attractions. The environment there is very suitable for many kinds of animals and plants. There are many various loveable animals like koalas, kangaroos and a variety of birds in Australia. We can see many animals we have never seen in Taiwan. Kangaroos are very lovely and representative animals of Australia. We could not only see kangaroos but also touch the kangaroo. That would be a memorable experience! “Sydney Opera House” is one of the most famous buildings in the world. The appearance of the building is like a seashell. As the most significant landmark of Sydney even Australia, it is the most photographed place. Many world-class plays are shown in it. Another famous tourist attraction I want to visit in Australia is “Ayers Rock (Uluru)”. It is a magnificent landscape and be listed in world heritage. The characteristic of the rock is the color changing at different time in a day. The color of the rock becomes scarlet during sunset and daybreak. It is fascinating...

...The first building that I decided to examine is the office building where I used to work. I was there for 40 or more hours weekly and, even though I came to the same place day in and day out it started to become very tedious, I have to say that I still appreciated the aesthetics and architecture around me. There is a hot tub business and an insurance company accident appraiser that is beside our office. Our building is very long, short building that is supported by cement legs and it has one parking lot going to the left and right sides of the building. In the back, sides and the front, of this massive building is nothing but all glasss that is made of up of approximately 2,000 windows! During the daytime hours, the glass around the building becomes like a shield that darkens up and it prohibits anyone from peering insidcetus building, but in the evening period, it lights up as bright as the city lights of New York. Our corporate colors are grey, black and white and the entire building is comprised of grey and white signs and a black trim that can't easily be seen from the outside. The elevators that lead up to the second floor are a ‘type A’ personality’s dream, meaning it is perfectly symmetrical and cleverly crafted in the shape of a “Z” that could be seen from the sidewalk below and the street beyond. The elevators run in all day long, carrying people up and down, to and from their areas where they need to be. START HERE&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& This building is absolutely...

...STEP Know What You Want And Dream Big “Alamin ang iyong mga hangarin at mangarap ka nang mataas” What is the first thing you do when you want to watch a movie? If you’re a normal person the first thing you do is decide what movie to watch and choose where to watch it and at what time. It’s the same thing with wealth building; you have to know first what you really want before you move on to the next steps. Most financial planners will tell you to examine your present financial situation first before you think about what you want to accomplish. I would agree with this if building wealth is as simple as watxhing movie. After all, how can you watch a movie if you do not have money? However, wealth building is more complex and takes much more time to accomplish. You simply can’t allow what you have now limits what you can be in the future. Hindi mo naman pwedeng sabihin na hindi ka muna mangangarap na maging maginhawa at maayos ang iyong retirement dahil wala ka pang pera sa ngayon. The biggest advantage of setting your goals first before getting to know your present condition is that you are free to dream as you please and you can dream big. You can let your imagination fly and dream of things that you really want in life without thinking about how much it will cost. I you know how much (or more accurately, how little) money you have now, your tendency will be to limit your goals. Liliitan mo ang iyong pangarap dahil takot ka na di mo makaya; di bale na kung hindi...

...Immigrant Experience Paula Panti HIS/226 April 06, 2014 Michelle O’Malley I am Giovanni (John) Pilutti this is the story of my family and descendants. I was born on February 16, 1892, in Rivignano, Udine, Italy and Louisa Muzzini who later became my wife and was born on March 22, 1897, near the same place. This is the story of my life’s journey, and how I ended up coming to America. Through hardships and sacrifice our family had a dream of going to America and making a better life for our children, and so the story begins. The year was 1914 when I joined the Italian Army, which I served until 1918 fighting in World War 1. It was the end of World War I much of Western Europe was still in turmoil; Men coming home from serving in Armed Services were trying to shift gears from military to civilian life. Times were hard. I married my childhood sweetheart Louisa while on leave from the army, and we had three beautiful children in a few short years. The war took its toll on my country financially, and forced tens of thousands of Italian people to migrate to the United States seeking work, and a better future for their families. My family and I were no exception, there was a big house being shared by several generations, with each family unit having a small bedroom and sharing the kitchen and other living space. As more children were added to the extended family, it became obvious that some of the family groups would have to move out. There was just no work, and the overcrowded...

...When I was small, I often dreamt about being rich as my parents were quite poor. We had difficulty making ends meet each month. So, if I had a lot of money, I would certainly fulfill my dreams. First and foremost, I would buy a house for my parents, preferably a bungalow, in a quiet town. I would equip the house with the latest technology so that it would be a smart home. My mother would have a state-of-the-art kitchen as she loves cooking. I would also get a maid to help her with the household chores. I will ensure that my family is comfortably settled in this house. The second thing I would do is to go on a world tour with my parents. I have never been overseas but I long to see the places I have only read or dreamt about. First, I would like to visit Europe, especially Italy, the city of romance. I would visit all the museums and buildings I have heard so much about. My next stop would be Hong Kong or China. There is something mystical about China and her people. This would be my dream come true. Apart from that, I could finally go on a shopping spree, which is my favourite pastime. Thus far, I could only go window shopping and if I had a lot of money, I would go into these stores and buy whatever I fancy. Just imagine that for once in my life, I do not need to look at the prices of the items that I like. I could just shop till I literally drop. The salesgirls would be hovering near me with their latest outfits and my wish would be their command. Ah, I would not be ignored...

...“Have you ever had a gun held to your head, Elijah?” My father's question bit into the cold night. The dark-indigo clouds above us seemed to press closer with every step we took on the walk back to his apartment. “I didn’t think so, Elijah. When I was just a little older than you, I faced that.” The falcate clouds crept lower and seemed to be on top of us when we finally got to the red brick apartment building he called home; I slumped on the couch whose arms were peppered with ash. The clouds from outside now felt as if they were pressing in onto the building from all sides. The question came after I realized that the man in the other room, my father, had taken me to a drug deal. Twelve-year-old me realized it wasn’t the first either. Twelve-year-old me realized why we went to what seemed like a new apartment building every other weekend when I went...

These men didn’t care what the dangers were. Their job was to rescue people and put the fire out. I thought firefighters were the epitome of bravery. As I grew older, the lure of the being a firefighter did not go away. But there were other, more viable options for me to have as a career. Getting a job on the fire department is extremely hard. The test is extremely competitive and there are thousands of people that want the same as I did. To become a firefighter. I took the first civil service test and did pretty well. But I knew my scores weren’t good enough to get a job offer. So off to college and find a job. After settling in to my job, I figured this was going to be my future. A suit and tie kind of of guy. That was OK with me. I was making a good living and was looking to marry my high school sweetheart. I started to put the thought of becoming a firefighter further and further from my mind. In the spring of 1996, a bunch of my friends told they were taking the civil service exam for the fire department. Now at this time I was just recently married and had a good job. My wife and I started to look for house to buy, and maybe start a family. But in the back of my mind, I knew I had to give it one more shot before letting that dream go. I decided to...
