Bullying Interviews
First off, after asking people about their thoughts on bullying, and what might be done to stop it from occurring for children, most of them came to the same conclusion, we as a whole have to teach our children from the beginning that treating others with kindness and caring is the right thing to do. This will aid in their becoming future adults who continue to teach the next children the same wisdom.
The first person interviewed was asked what they think is a good way to help teach children not to bully others. He said it must first start within the family is important especially if there are siblings as he had. The parents and other adult family members need to teach how they all live together and teach that each person is an individual and has feelings. His parents taught that because they all needed to pull together and a unit that bulling each other was not acceptable. The siblings could not interact and play with each other, and had activities with the family taken away as well.
Reasoning, if you cannot be kind and get along then you have to sit it out and be by yourself. His parents also tried to explain the importance of not hurting others to get your own way and that working together in play or life is a better idea. Having talked to a few friends and co-workers the answers were mostly the same. Families need to let the children know from a young age that being a bossy person or hostel hurtful person is not the way to act. People need to be raised to treat others, as you wanted to be treated.
Unfortunately, some kids grow up with bulling and violence in the home that they see and learn from the adults around them. This can carry over into how they interact with others outside of the home. Some kids will take out their own frustrations on their peers because, they are not happy, or are not being taught properly at home. Other children may be more introverted and not be aggressive and let others bully them just as they witnessing this kind of behavior at home.
Looking at how kids also learn from other peers and want to be accepted in their groups shows another example of how bulling can happen. Children who hang out with others who think they are above others. This form of peer group pressure can make the child or children feel they have to go with their group or possibly be target for being bullied themselves.
If a child learns from a parent bad skills in social inter action, or there is no real caring going on at home, they may turn to aggressive behavior to others. This is seen in gangs, children want to know they are cared for even if it is in a negative way so they join a gang. Children want to know someone cares and is kind, also to set rules and guidelines.
We know in this world there is bulling by many other ways, and not just in school. Children see it on TV shows and the news from around the world. The children view violent countries, religious groups, and corporation of greed that dominates others, and their belongings, such as land, freedom, food, and so on. This all can teach aggressive action over others. This plays a role in teaching children that to get what they want and to have power over others; children model what they see from us.
In this country, some schools have good programs to help teach tolerance toward others and some have zero tolerance policies on bullying. Parents and the community need to get involved with the schools and other positive community organizations to help change children’s views and attitudes about getting along. As a global community, not enough is being done to help change this bullying generation. Parents, schools, and local community organizations should be more aware of teaching children from all lifestyles on the fundamentals of compassion, caring, empathy, and kindness to your fellow human.
Some schools also have group solution teams where educators and parents get children together to talk about ways to stop and change what is happening with school bullying. The idea is that by getting the children together from different peer groups, and non-peer groups can help them learn to get along better by coming to a mutual understanding about each other. If you put different people together and try to form a caring and compassionate relationship towards each other it can work.
In reality some people will not change there are factors of behavioral issues of negative human nature, but it can depend on other factors such as what has been taught at home, school and the community. As our global society grows, humans need to help teach each other especially the children, with love and caring guidance because some children do not get it at all. It does affect us all in the in the world some way or another. What do we want, bullies to lord over us, or do we want people who are caring good stewards of our society? Our children are our future.

...What is bullying? Bullying defined Bullying is a repeated aggressive behavior where one person (or group of people) in a position of power deliberately intimidates, abuses, or coerces an individual with the intention to hurt that person physically or emotionally. Acts of bullying can be physical or verbal. Many young people can be unkind to each other during adolescence as they refine social skills and grow into adults. While these interactions are unpleasant, there is a clear line between conflict and bullying. Incidents of bullying must include all 3 of these characteristics: 1) Intentional- the behavior was aggressive and a deliberate attempt to hurt another person 2) Repeated- these aggressive actions occur repeatedly over time to the same person or group of people 3) Power imbalance- the person bullying has more physical or social power than the child or children being bullied Bullying almost always takes an emotional toll upon the child being bullied, but the actions that constitute bullying vary. There are four types of bullying, which can occur separately or simultaneously: 1) Physical bullying such as kicking or pushing 2) Verbal bullying such as name-calling or yelling 3) Relational bullying such as excluding or rumor-spreading 4) Cyberbullying which involves sending hurtful messages over digital devices like computers and cell phones. ...Stopping Bullying in Schools Bullying in schools is a phenomenon that has received increased attention in the media. Boys and girls both experience bullying. Bullying in boys is more physical and verbal; bullying in girls is more psychological and relational (cdc.gov). According to the National Center for Education Statistics, “bullying activities were as common as daily or weekly happenings in 25 percent of public schools during 2007-08” (nces.ed.gov). Bullying often starts as verbal teasing, and then leads to physical threats and even violence. Bullying creates problems of low self-esteem, decreased focus on school work, and emotional distress in victims. Bullies continually target those that are weaker than them either physically or emotionally. It is important to make schools safer for students by preventing bullying. Many people think of bullying as an act of one child or group of children physically assaulting or teasing another child (eHow.com). The most common type of bullying is name calling or making belittling remarks about another child, whether it be their physical or socioeconomic characteristics. Other types of bullying include spreading rumors, intimidation, and group isolation. Children and teenagers in schools around the world face discrimination, mental and physical violence and other types of bullying every day. From nonviolent to physical abuse, the safety of a student in the school environment can be compromised by bullying. However...

...the United States, and other First World countries, have access to educational resources. Yet, around 160,000 children in the United States alone miss school because of bullying (Phoenix & Honda, “Our children Faces a Bullying Epidemic”). Since most bullying takes place at school, it is imperative that these schools take actions by implementing anti-bullying policies into their school code of conduct. The schools are primarily responsible for reducing bullying among students and must seek effective solutions to this growing problem. Bullying would not be such a huge problem if school officials stepped up and started intervening. But how can they intervene when many cannot even recognize signs of bullying, or have not been trained on how to properly handle the situation? If not handled correctly, it can worsen and create more issues for the victims. In a survey done by Frank Barone, principal of Amsterdam High School New York, teachers believed approximately 16% of students are bullied victims (Barone,80). Barone also surveyed students, 58% of whom revealed that they are bullied victims. He found three core reasons as to why teachers and faculty members do not recognize bullying. First, the teachers believed that the bullied victims have to learn to stand up for themselves on their own. Second, they see bullying every day to the point that have become immune to it, and thus hardly recognize it anymore. Lastly, they do not have the resources or the time to intervene because they...

...brighter future? Everyone needs to understand the causes of bullying and try to help prevent it from the underlying cause. By punishing a bully, does that end the problem of bullying or result in more hatred and aggressiveness on part of the bully? “Since bullies are made, not born, rehabilitation is an attainable and preferable alternative to resorting to harsh reprimands or turning a blind eye” (Hanson). Bullying is a form of youth violence. It is an unwanted aggressive behaviour by one or a group of young persons. It is normally repeated frequently and affects the person physically, psychologically, socially, or educationally. Bullying can be in the form of physical, verbal or social aggression. Another form of bullying is cyber-bullying, which involves bullying through e-mail, a chat room, instant messaging, a website, text messaging, or videos or pictures posted on websites or sent through cell phones (Understanding Bullying - Fact Sheet). The first response to deal with a bully is normally to punish them. They are regarded as a ruthless, emotionless and bad person, who hurt others and therefore they cannot be helped. But most of the time, those bullies do not even realise the impact their behaviours are having on the victims. There are times when they have actually been victims of bullying themselves and to them, this is a way of venting their frustration out (Hanson). A third of bullies are victims of bullying and those kids actually are more prone to depression and...

Bullying

...Bullying Bullying, one of the major and controversial student problems, is defined conventionally as any severe or repeated use by one or more students of a written, verbal or electronic expression, or a physical act or gesture, or any combination thereof, unswervingly directed at another student that has the effect of actually causing or placing the latter in reasonable fear of physical or emotional harm or damage to his property; creating a hostile environment at school for the other students. Can you imagine if bullying prevails on your school? How dreadful will it be! Bullying gives nothing but grief and terror! It lets the courage of the heart linger! It turns an optimistic world into a despairing environment. It alters buoyant dreams into nightmares. It can devastate the life of a person! Many students bully others. They pan others’ flaws as if they are perfect. They throw every single word about students’ blemishes, including physical appearances, styles, mental capacities and others. They act so uncouth towards others, striking them either directly or meanderingly. They see their selves as superiors that they do and say whatever they want not considering others’ feelings. Bullying really is vile and it affects one’s self-confidence and social life. Excruciating words repeatedly thrown to a person will make him feel insignificance. He will lose the courage to strive. He will be a coward of his own dreams. Instead of reaching the stars and speak for his bright desires...

The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time. Both kids who are bullied and who bully others may have serious, lasting problems.  When hearing the word “bully” majority once thought of just a bigger boy/girl picking on smaller children asking them for their lunch money, a seat in a classroom or making them do there homework and in return they wont hurt them or embarrass them in front of there friends, but now its more than that, its more than just wanting their lunch money or some dumb seat in class now don’t get me wrong doing those things was wrong and was something that we should’ve taken into consideration and been more aware of but we waited… we waited for something tragic to happen to finally open up our eyes and say “hey! That’s this is something very important and dangerous” because like I was saying now its more than that. Now in days bullying is about helping ones own self esteem by tormenting and abusing others just for fun, the most tragic part of this whole situation is that it works and the bully victim tends to think that something is wrong with them and that they will never be accepted by others or even “fit in” to a “social class”, which leads to the most tragic situation to live through, now see how I use the word “live” because most of the children, teens, and...

...The Effects Bullying Has On Teenagers Among the many challenges facing teenagers in today’s society, the most general and most feared is bullying, and the consequences, it has on teenagers. “Nearly 30 % of teens in the United States (or over 5.7) million are estimated at being involved in bullying, a target of bullying, or both.” (JAMA) Bullying brings with it an astronomical amount of negative effects, some of which can stay with the victim long after the bullying has stopped. These effects are self-esteem, mental health, and a reduction in grades. According to Dombeck, “Bullying is an attempt to install fear and self-loathing. Being the repetitive target of bullying damages a teenager’s ability to view themselves as a desirable, capable, and efficient individual.” (Dombeck, MP-10) When living teenage years having exceptional self-esteem it, is very significant, to demonstrate how much they love and appreciate themselves. Victims have demonstrated that bullied daily they might be deprived of their self-esteem, and begin dissatisfaction for themselves because they have this weakness. With no self-esteem, they seem to gravitate to be controlling and bossy with others because of the frustration they feel toward the bully. They become very hard on themselves. According to a teenager “I am ugly, no one likes me, I can not make friends.” A separate effect is changes in mental health. The Victims sleep habits are plausible, and they stay up late, so the end up getting...

...Bullying By: Melissa Maring Do you know how much bullying really occurs? Every seven minutes a child is bullied by peers, online, or at home. One hundred and sixty thousand teens do not go to school on any given day because they are afraid they will be bullied. What bullying use to be years ago is not what bullying is today. It has gone from just being peers in school, to expanding out to the internet. (Bullying Stops with Me) One question that people can confuse is: “What is bullying?” There is a difference between bullying and name calling. Bullying is a behavior that is unwanted and aggressive between kids in school that involves a child wanting to be more powerful. This behavior is normally repeated and can involve one or many kids. Bullying is more than verbally attacking someone. It includes making threats, physically attacking someone, spreading rumors, and even excluding someone from a group. (Bullying, 2013) (Stop Bullying, 2012) (Bullying, 2013) Everyone plays a role in bullying whether you are the bully or standing back and watching. The kid who bullies other kids could have many reasons for being a bully. They might think it’s the cool thing since their friends are bullies, or the child could be learning from their parents or siblings. A child that is a bully might have one of many reasons to be a bully. Family can play a large role on a child. If the child doesn’t feel loved by their family, aren’t disciplined or are overly disciplined, or are beat up by...

...Bullying Can you imagine getting punched and kicked by someone you don't even know? People calling you names and mocking you without knowing who you really are? I know most of us were once a victim of bullying. And I know some of us were the ones doing the hurting and name callings. If you are the bullied, trust me when I say, "It's not you, its them.", and if you are the bully, ask yourselves "What is wrong with me?" Being bullied does not mean that there is something wrong with you. Wearing baggy clothes and nerdy glasses is not a reason to be harassed. And your family's background is not a reason for someone to ridicule you. Nobody deserves to be treated that way. Have self-confidence, know your worth. Doing nothing or taking lots of sleeping pills such as sleepasils won’t change anything. Show minimal reaction to bullying. Do not show the bullies that you feel hurt if they do something that makes you uncomfortable; just walk off. Bullies gain satisfaction from making others feel hurt or uncomfortable, so giving them a reaction may only encourage them further. The bully wants attention and if you show them that they are emotionally hurting you, they will get more pleasure out of doing this. Don’t bully back. Fighting back just satisfies a bully and it is dangerous, because someone could get hurt. You are also likely to get in trouble. Bullies are just looking for attention. They might think bullying is a way to be popular or to get what they want. Most bullies are trying...
