College is a financial risk that leaves students attending 4 year university, on average, close to 20,000 dollars in debt, but Robin Wilson, author of A Lifetime of Student Debt? Not Likely and reporter for the Chronicle of Higher Education, argues that minimizing debt is important but school should be priority number one. Going to college is very important in the modern day; having a bachelor degree opens opportunities that were previously unobtainable and sets a developing mind up for success. College builds character and helps a person become who they are not who they want to be. Robin Wilson expresses the values of college and undoubtedly the rewards are far greater than the risk. College may be expensive but is one of the best choices for anyone looking to better themselves and succeed. Over one’s life, a college graduate will see close to $1 million dollars more than a high school graduate; earning $57,181 opposed to $31,286, nearly a 80 percent increase (Wilson 260).
