...Case Analysis Chipotle Chipotle, (pronounced chi-POAT-lay) is a homerun company with Steve Ells steering the ship as CEO. Whether he turns starboard or port, he has the company heading in the right direction. His vision is “to change the way people think about and eat fast food”. His strategy is based on five key elements: 1.) Serving a focused menu of burritos, tacos, burrito bowls (a burrito without the tortilla-which is quite amazing, I’ve had them several times, they are a very healthy and delightful tasting alternative to burritos), and salads. 2.) Using high-quality raw ingredients and classic cooking methods to create great tasting, reasonably priced dishes that were ready to be served to customers minutes after they were ordered. 3.) Creating an operationally efficient restaurant with an aesthetically pleasing and distinctive interior setting. 4.) Having friendly people take care of each customer. 5.) Doing all of this with increasing awareness and respect for the environment, the use of organically grown fresh produce, and meats raised in a humane manner without hormones and antibiotics. With these core competencies Chipotle has reached the top of its industry. They maintain a focused product (strategy 1), they maintain high quality products (2), they are efficient in operations (3), customer service is a priority (4), and they are environmentally friendly (5). These are strong core components that if maintained will produce a long lasting thriving company...

...Chipotle Mexican Grill functions as a fast, casual, and fresh Mexican food provider that focuses on a menu offering burritos, burrito bowls, tacos, quesadillas, and even salads. A recent poll conducted by Forbes concluded that almost 88% of consumers from all demographics are willing to pay more for healthier foods. This shift in preferences proves that now is as good of a time as ever for new businesses to enter into the fresh ingredient, quick-service food industry. According to restaurantowner.com, the typical start up cost of this nature is around $225,000, which is relatively inexpensive for starting a new business venture. This, along with few legal obstacles, creates low entry barriers for companies that wish to compete in this industry. As mentioned earlier, consumers now have a wide variety of healthier fast food options, especially with Mexican food. This offers the opportunity for new entrants to focus more on experience and atmosphere rather than just the food served. Consumers want fast and fresh, but are also inherently drawn to hip and trendy environments that aid to the entire consumption process whether they dine in or carry out. This gives new entrants the power to differentiate their brand and compete with already existing restaurants. R. Application of Porter’s Five Forces Model Paper (n.d.): 3. Web. 29 Feb. 2016. ...Assignment 1: Identify Your Competitive Advantage Aaron M. Massey Professor Jackson BUS100 26OCT2013 During the course of this paper it is my intent to analyze the strength and weaknesses of Chipotle Mexican Grill in hopes of finding a way that the restaurant chain could boost profit and/or productivity. Chipotle Mexican Grill has many things going for them and against them since opening in 1993 (Wikipedia, 2013). To start with let’s talk about their weaknesses or things they could do better. They don’t seem to be very creative in making new products, they don’t have much of a kids menu, and they’re not that global (Wikiswot). Creating new items isn’t always a make or break thing, but they could still try some new things out every once in awhile. The kids menu is pretty weak and limited 2 soft or crispy taco’s, but not allowed to have 1 of each, three ingredients to include one meat or guacamole, really? (Chipotle, 2013). They are kids, small people; it would not kill Chipotle’s bottom line to let the kids actually pick anything they want, limiting to three items (kids’ servings). Yes, they have a few places outside of the US (France, Germany & UK), but not many, they really could try to expand more to other places like around the Asian/eastern Asia countries (Wikipedia, 2013). Enough of the bad stuff and onto the strengths of Chipotle include low prices, loyal customers, financially strong/stable, they use “green”...

...licensing arrangement under which a franchisor allows franchisees to use its name, trademark, products, business methods and other property in exchange for monetary payments and other considerations. Since they are company owned, the same desire to serve a great product can be stressed throughout all of their locations. It is always the possibility of a franchisee that may be more concerned with just making a profit and taking into consideration the product their business is producing. Chipotle Mexican Grill has several strengths that they are utilizing extremely well. I think that their greatest strength is the fact that their menu is very streamline with interchangeable items. They have a total of five items on the menu the burrito, burrito bowl, crispy taco, soft taco, and salad, along with offering an appetizer of chips and guacamole and their salsas. Because of the fact that their menu items use many of the same ingredients, this is a great way of cutting down of the expense of buying a lot of different produce to prepare their items and they can stay focused on their aim of doing exceptionally well with a few things. When they order cheese, lettuce, meats, or rice they can purchase a large quantity of it because all of their menu items use it. There is not a great likely hood of product spoiling and being wasted because it isn’t used and because they focus on sourcing the best possible ingredients available. Chipotle makes every effort to purchase food with...

...Assignment #3 List five innovations. Label each innovation as continuous, dynamically continuous, or discontinuous. Defend your selection of type of innovation. Do not used the same examples as used in the text. McDonald's Snack Wrap: This is an example of a continuous innovation. The ingredients and taste might be slightly different from typical wraps( e.g wraps from Taco Bell) but we still eat the wrap in the same manner that we would eat any other wrap. It's a modification of an existing product. Venus Water Shaving Razors: This is another example of a continuous innovation. In the past we would need to use shaving cream/gel before shaving, but with the new shaver, all you have to do is dip the blades in water and it'll work like a shaving cream/gel. It's a modification and improvement of an existing product. Bella and Birch Textured Paints: These can be applied like a wallpaper without the use of glue. It's a dynamically continuous innovation as it can exert a degree of influence on usage and behavior patterns. This doesn’t really change the demeanor/behavior of the applicator. Norplant Contraceptive: This is an example of a discontinuous innovation as this innovation required significant changes in behavior of significant importance to the individual. This kind of contraceptive is made of six small silicone capsules and becomes implanted in the upper arm of the female and stays effective for five years This requires the female to completely step...

...outside of Colorado, in Minneapolis and Columbus. They opened 67 new stores in the fourth quarter of 2011 and now have over 1430 locations worldwide. One of Chipotle’s strengths that definitely sets them apart from every other restaurant is the burrito. They specialize in the burrito. They don’t just make and serve burritos, they make it the way you want it and they make with whatever ingredients you want in your burrito. There are no other burritos, from any other restaurant that can compare to a chipotle burrito. People want their food the way they want it and that is plan for success because your customer gets what they want and they are willing to pay for it. Another reason Chipotle Mexican Grill has been able to grow exponentially over the past 20 years, is they have gone completely above and beyond any other chain restaurant when it comes to ingredients. In 1999 Steve Ells, the founder of Chipotle Mexican Grill learns how pigs are raised and makes the decision he wants to have naturally raised pigs produce the pork he puts in his burritos. Any other company is looking for the best price on pork and probably could care less how they are raised. Over the years customers have enjoyed having the right pork in their burrito and that is a strength that has made this restaurant very popular. Just when you thought that was enough, in 2002 Steve Ells instituted naturally raised chickens. Now, not only is the pork a finer meat than most restaurants, now the Chicken is...

Spoon apple pie filling across the bottom 1/3 of the tortilla. Roll in both sides of the tortilla before rolling up the bottom of the tortilla over the filling, and then continue to roll the tortilla up like a burrito. Meanwhile, heat a small skillet with 1/2 an inch of oil. Once oil is hot, fry the chimichangas on all sides until the tortilla turns golden brown. (approximately 30 seconds on each side) Remove the chimichangas to a paper towel-lined plate and allow to drain briefly. Immediately roll the warm chimichanga in the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat and serve. You can serve the chimichangas drizzled with caramel sauce if you desire. I desired so I drizzled caramel sauce over my chimi…and it blew my ever lovin’ mind. ...Andrew Jun Strategic Marketing 1/28/13 Marketing Strategy Report Chipotle’s expansion to China is fueled by a potentially large customer base stemming from a high urban population. Currently, there exists no “authentic” Mexican-Hispanic cuisine in China’s largest cities (Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou), and much of the population has never tasted Mexican food. We believe the opportunity to commercialize Chipotle in China will lead to a large success because we understand that most consumers want to experience different things, and our menu provides just that. Virtually all cuisine is Chinese, so many consumers will take a natural interest in our restaurants. This curiosity will serve as our initial marketing strategy to bring in customers. Needs: food, beverages, dining Wants: special cuisine that is distinctive from most/all other restaurants Demands: Quality food, service, and buying power To ensure Chipotle’s future in China, our marketing strategy will be customer driven and include geographic, demographic and psychographic segmentation. To explain further, China’s high urban populations will be our target markets because there will be more acceptance and willingness to dine at a Chipotle-style restaurant. Outside expansion will not be viable for Chipotle, so we will work specifically in those geographic locations. Initially, we will target the younger population, ages 10 to 35 because this age group will not oppose traditional Chinese cuisine and will be willing...
