Lodging their first corporate social responsibility (CSR) in 2008, according to the article “Burt’s Bees: Balancing Growth and Sustainability. Their 2020 sustainable goals consist of zero waste, one hundred percent employee engagement, one-hundred percent natural products, one- hundred percent Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR)/Biodegradable packaging, and one-hundred percent renewable energy/ zero carbon leadership in energy and environmental design (LEED) certified building. Kicking off the goals that they have set in place, they began measuring how much waste the company was producing. The amount came as a surprised when they discovered it was forty tons of waste each month that was being poured into the waste land fields. Burt’s Bees has a goal of having zero waste by 2020. However, soon enough Roxanne was hit with a major dilemma. Her company was originally located in the state of Maine. As many may or may not know Maine has an expensive payroll and business tax is high. So in order to remain in Maine the company would need to expand fast. For some reason, however, the company’s growth could not keep up with Maine’s demands. so Quimby had to make an important decision, fast. She can either, move her company down south to a bigger more industrial area, stay in Maine or sell the company all together. After reviewing the case study, we believe that Roxanne should sell the company. We believe that Roxanne would be able to attract a buyer despite having only $3 million in sales because of the publicity and attention the company has been receiving. Roxanne came from humble beginnings and was comfortable with living that lifestyle. She says that she believed that it was time for her “baby” to grow up and move on. If she sold the company, she could follow her real dream of going to India and helping the rural women there. We’re not convinced that she is entirely invested emotionally in the company. Yes, she works 20 hours a day and is very intensive in her company physically but we feel like she sees the business as a burden to her. She personally would seem happier by just taking the money and leaving to travel the world. In recent years, many changes have been made to start shifting public perception of Clorox toward being an eco-friendly supporter. Due to this strategy and consumer trends, Clorox should stay the path of being an eco-friendly, green organization. Current consumer preferences support the notion that green sustainability is a megatrend, not a passing fad. To achieve the Centennial Strategy goal of double-digit profit growth in 2013 and to implement green initiatives and best practices across all Clorox product divisions, small changes in strategy and an increase of approximately $18 million in marketing and advertising needs to happen in the short run. Weismann’s neo-Darwinian theory of evolution was further elaborated, most notably in a series of books by Theodosius Dobzhansky, Ernst Mayr, Julian Huxley and others. In this article we first summarize the history of life on Earth and provide recent evidence demonstrating that Darwin’s dilemma (the apparent missing Precambrian record of life) has been resolved. Pp. viii, 331. Allen’s book is an excellent example of the persuasiveness of the new economic history. It is solidly rooted in statistical data and uses sophisticated methods of economic analysis but its analysis is presented in plain English. He argues that the first industrial revolution occurred in northwestern Europe because its high wages during the early modern period encouraged technological innovation. Although high wages were initially a consequence of the demographic disaster of the Black Death, they were reinforced during the early modern period by the economic success of the region around the North Sea, first, in European trade and manufacturing, especially in wresting the textile industry from the Italians, and then in world trade. According to Allen, the first industrial revolution took place in Britain instead of the Low Countries primarily because of Britain’s abundant and cheap coal resources, combined with the central government’s ability to use mercantilist policies and naval power to reap the greatest benefits from an expanding European and world trade.
