HERZOG SUMMER 2013 MONDAY 6:00 P.M TO 10:00 P.M. IRVINE GRADUATE CAMPUS ------------------------------------------------- Obesity Lawsuits Against the Fast Food Industry Final Paper August 2, 2013 Breanna Neal I. Introduction Should you be able to sue a restaurant such as McDonald’s for your obesity? Well, it depends who you ask. The customers of such fast-food companies believe their health problems were caused by overeating their addictive fatty foods. Lawmakers are on the other end of the spectrum attempting to ban such litigation because they believe that it is the consumer’s responsibility to not overeat. Today we live in a society where many do not want to take responsibility for their own actions. Everyone wants to jump on the band wagon and sue a business. I decided to take a look at the obesity lawsuits over the years against fast-food companies in order to find out what protection they have from such disgruntled customers. There are many different positions on the topic and various legal cases that went to court. In this research paper I am going to expand on my findings of this controversial topic. First, I will explain the history of obesity law suites and how the first one led many others to sue. Next, I will cite, describe, and analyze various obesity law suits...

...Crime and the affecting factors of the criminal behavior Prof. Dr. Ayman Elzeiny First : - Introduction to crime : The information about the crime reaches to the public may be through the newspapers , television programs, films, and novels . Some of us have accumulated experience with crime by having ourselves been victims or knowing others who have been victims, some by being offenders (or at least defendants), or knowing such individuals, and others by being occupationally concerned with prevention of crime or supervision of people found guilty of violating the law . There's many difficulties to offer a wholly satisfactory definition of the crime, a word frequently used and a phenomenon often encountered . For the purposes of scholarly study specifically, the amassing of reliable statistics, development of explanations and theories, and preparation of sound public policy a definition more exact than the mental images held by the public is essential . Crime is a by-product of civilization. Most civilized members of society obey authority and conform to the norms prevailing in their culture. Their obedience and compliance may vary in degree, but law-abiding citizens remain within the limits of tolerance. Crime then is a sociopolitical event subject to the definitions of the society in which it occurs. The social response to crime in terms of treatment of offenders is dependent upon the advance of the civilization and the affluence of the society...

Volta Region, GHANA Corresponding author’s e-mail : oomaxi@yahoo.com, Tel. +233 244979950 Abstract This paper examines driver’s knowledge concerning road sign usage along an international route in Ghana. There were two stages for the data collection. First, an observational study was conducted to determine the specific road signs along the route. Second, questionnaires were administered to 50 drivers who regularly drove on this route to assess their understanding of those road signs. The study shows that various road signs and markings are along the route. Hump ridge ramps are the dominant road signs observed coupled with pedestrian crossing warning sign posts. Most drivers do not recognize common road signs and markings hence their memorability, remembrance and application during driving is difficult. Main contributing factors are driver’s not professional trained and symbolic nature of the road signs. Challenges encountered during road sign usage include size of road sign indicating situations, visibility, reflectivity and placement...
