Bus 600 Management Communications with Technology Tools

Why is communication competence in the workplace, an important aspect of one’s business? First, we must examine the explanation of the terms. Communication competence is the ability to choose a communication behavior that is both appropriate and effective for a given situation. Interpersonal competency allows one to achieve their communication goals without causing the other party to lose face.
I will examine these practices in the business I work at part time. It is called Sinus Dynamics, we are a closed-door pharmacy, I will examine how the failure of certain communications can affect one’s business morale, and turnover rates.
In 1968 researchers, Martin and Anderson stated communication is a process in which both receivers and senders can affect one another. So how critical can this be if both or one fail to communicate properly to the other? Business is one place where a manager or leader must possess a competency in many areas of communication, to effectively have a positive impact on their companies.
Competencies are behaviorally defined characteristics that can affect any performance within a huge range of tasks. How a person should behave in order to achieve their objectives for their roles within their job organization. If a person can have these competencies, it will help them to meet challenges they may face daily at their jobs and an ever-changing workplace. If they can possess and build competencies, they will become resilient, flexible, and adaptable. Moreover, these are all great traits to have as a manager in today’s business world.
A great trait to have is self-responsibility, this pretty much means you have a readiness and willingness to work; you can demonstrate a realistic optimism. You always know there can be a solution to problem. You will possess enthusiasm for your work, you are alert, and have energy for the tasks. You should be able to, independently work towards goals, and or a group setting as well. Taking ownership is important, everyone makes mistakes, and it is all right to admit when you have done so. If you can achieve expertise in this competency, you become accountable, and responsible, and you become self-motivated.
In the pharmacy I work, this competency failure is very prominent in many workers I work with. They refuse to take ownership, so this makes it difficult to address the proper people on mistakes made and to help teach them the correct ways. There is low self-motivation also. So this leaves a divided workplace. Some work hard, but get discouraged by those who do nothing or less then and still bring home the same amount of money. This drives down morale. A second trait one must possess to become successful in business is good communication. You need to listen carefully, incorporate corrective feedback. Encouraging others to express different opinions, and share information with one another. I also think being able to give and receive positive and corrective feedback is an important trait. If you can successfully retain this trait, you can interact professionally and positively with one another. You can work in teams, you can listen and share important information with coworkers, and you can easily resolve conflicts. I have seen how unpleasant a work environment can be without this competency.
Another important competency is mindfulness. This pretty much is the ability to learn, or retain knowledge. You need the ability to research and use new information, and evaluate information sources. You will need to be able to integrate and transfer any new information obtained to other coworkers. You will need to be able to recognize your strengths and limitations of your thinking also. Moreover, be able to apply the knowledge you have obtained in order to make informed decisions and solve any problems you may face in your work environment. If you cannot obtain or communicate information, or understand information given too, and relay it back to your staff. Then your employees will not know how or when to correctively follow you. This can lead to a workplace full of people just guessing on the correct way to do things on a daily basis. In addition, this will help to fail your workplace in the end. If you can master this competency your workplace will successfully utilize various thinking modes, this will mean they can learn and will learn. This is a key thing in business because we all know things change almost daily. When you, and your employees can make informed decisions. You can then adjust your thinking to maximize their effectiveness. This will ensure growth and productivity for your business. Now let us talk about the word productivity. If your job does not produce, you and your coworkers really have no job. Productivity is a competency all business should have. With this you have the ability to plan, prioritize, organize time and all tasks. You can more efficiently produce work at a higher standard. You will continue to progress and exceed.
Also proactivity is pone most do not think of as a good workplace competency, but if your business can accomplish this,, they learn to anticipate change and better react to it. They learn to set goals, and learn to self-promote and this helps your business in every way. In the pharmacy I work, many of these competencies are not mastered. We have a ill run chaotic mess most day, we lack guidance and management discipline. As a result, we have lost many contracts with patients and insurance providers. Many of our employees are not satisfied with their job and work environment. Therefore, this means they will not be as productive, and this is a loss for all parties involved.

“No organization can continue to perform tasks productively unless its members have a basic trust in each other’s’ capabilities and motivations to continue to act cooperatively. It is the ability of individuals, to achieve interdependence that creates organization. Getting work done requires an endless series of complex collaborations, and spending time and energy wondering whether others will do their part can create serious obstructions to productivity. Success depends on each member’s ability to trust others to do their own parts of the job, to support the company’s goals and objectives and to maintain an environment in which problems can be resolved in a quick and effective manner. Organizational success, therefore, is often found to be related to an ability to build trusting relationships (Cooper, 1997).” This means if that trust is built in business by experience. Like if you know an employee will always be early because you have seen him do so since his first day, you will trust him to be dependable and on time. If trust is built by experience, and you have hired new employees, as you train them you have to trust the ones who hired this person. You have to trust they were hired and are capable of doing the jobs and task provided for them. However, trust in a workplace goes both ways, you also have to be trustworthy. Certain things you can do to make sure you are trustworthy. They are always being consistent. Have consistent good work habits, good tempers, and good attitudes.
Also maintain good communication, it is easy to trust a coworker who is open and honest in their communications. Change is always unavoidable in business, but when your team can trust you to communicate well and provide warnings and directions in change, they trust they change will not create for them unpredictability. Commonality, this means when we have already learned to trust those who are like those we have trusted before. So make sure you have commonality with your employees.
Also be cooperative, allow others to witness the quality of your word and your work. This will build a great trust with employees and management. Without trust and communication, your business will not be successful.
”Communication diversity is a fact of business life. No matter how skilled, prepared, motivated, and responsible the individuals involved in a group, personality differences will always exist. Those differences lead to different ways of being skilled, prepared, motivated, and responsible. Personality “difference” is not the same as personality conflict, but differences can lead to misunderstanding and even conflict. Sometimes people think it is impolite to talk about differences honestly. (Your mother probably taught you not to point at kids who were “different.”) In other situations, people just do not have the vocabulary to talk about differences productively. (You never learned any other way to describe “weird” people.) Either way, differences can get in the way of group work. If they cannot be discussed productively, they can easily turn into conflict. If you do not understand how someone thinks or how he or she comes to conclusions, you will not be able to provide the information necessary for that decision-making process to work. If you do not discuss your preferences or your misunderstandings, you will not be able to select the most effective communication methods for getting the work done.
Although the topic might be unfamiliar and even uncomfortable, your communication and work preferences are something you need to be able to talk about with your co-workers, supervisors and colleagues in order to work successfully with them. You need to know what you are good at and what you will need others on your work team to help you with. You need to be able to describe the things that you can only do for a little while, as well as the things are that you’d be happy to do for the rest of your life. Most important for group work, you need to be comfortable explaining to others on your work team how you work best, what you don’t do well and what you can promise to do better than most other people.”( Tannen 1995)
Without communication competencies practiced, encourage, nurtured in yourself and your employees. Your business will not grow, excel, or produce. It all needs to start with you and then other’s will also strive to set goals for themselves as well. Effective management and competencies will excel your business to a growth stage. This should be the ultimate goal for all businesses, their management, and their employees.

It describes how elasticities are used, and summarizes previous research on transit elasticities. Commonly used transit elasticity values are largely based on studies of short- and medium-run impacts performed decades ago when real incomes where lower and a larger portion of the population was transit dependent. As a result, they tend to be lower than appropriate to model long-run impacts. Analysis based on these elasticity values tends to understate the potential of transit fare reductions and service improvements to reduce problems such as traffic congestion and vehicle pollution, and understate the long-term negative impacts that fare increases and service cuts will have on transit ridership, transit revenue, traffic congestion and pollution emissions.
