...Bus 600 Management Communications with Technology Tools Why is communication competence in the workplace, an important aspect of one’s business? First, we must examine the explanation of the terms. Communication competence is the ability to choose a communication behavior that is both appropriate and effective for a given situation. Interpersonal competency allows one to achieve their communication goals without causing the other party to lose face. I will examine these practices in the business I work at part time. It is called Sinus Dynamics, we are a closed-door pharmacy, I will examine how the failure of certain communications can affect one’s business morale, and turnover rates. In 1968 researchers, Martin and Anderson stated communication is a process in which both receivers and senders can affect one another. So how critical can this be if both or one fail to communicate properly to the other? Business is one place where a manager or leader must possess a competency in many areas of communication, to effectively have a positive impact on their companies. Competencies are behaviorally defined characteristics that can affect any performance within a huge range of tasks. How a person should behave in order to achieve their objectives for their roles within their job organization. If a person can have these competencies, it will help them to meet challenges they may face daily at their jobs and an ever-changing workplace. If they can possess and build competencies...

...Brian Laitsch Bus Adm 600-‐006 CASE FIVE Case 5: Ford and the World Automobile Industry in 2012 This case explores the development and evolution of the automobile industry. Although this case covers the industry and all of its major players on a global level, a large portion of it is about the U.S. automakers – especially Ford. The automobile industry is one of the largest industries in the world, and like every other industry, it is not always a profitable one. Because of saturated markets, new competitors, environmental concerns, new technologies, and the growing use of electronic cars, has had a strong impact on the industry. Similar to other industries, the rapid growth of technology has caused automakers to constantly adjust their manufacturing process and product designs. This technology boost allowed car manufactures to now produce cars in a fraction of the time it took previously. This lean production allowed plants ...

...News Article BUS 600 Dr. Baldonado November 28, 2013 Abstract The success or failure of a company depends on a series of decisions made by the company’s leadership. Although there are companies that have had short term success by making unethical decisions history has demonstrated that a company tends to have more long term success when the leadership makes ethical decisions. A prime example is when Johnson & Johnson’s CEO in the 1980s made a series of ethical decisions that contributed to the success of the company. During the Tylenol crisis James E. Burke made decisions that cost the company a substantial amount of money in the short term to protect the public’s safety. In the long term Johnson & Johnson’s productivity increased and it is still a profitable company today. A CEO’s decision making skills often have a direct impact on the success or failure of a company. Although there are many examples of unscrupulous business practices across industries this paper will examine a case where a CEO acted ethically. Specifically, it will discuss the impact of former CEO James E. Burke’s leadership decisions on his company Johnson & Johnson in the 1980s. Both the financial impact and the ethical impact of his decisions will be analyzed. James E. Burke’s heroic decision is a classic example of ethical leadership in action. In late September 1982 a twelve year old girl died after taking Tylenol painkillers (Fletcher , 2009) Later that day a postal worker...

...Impressive experimental exertion is being applied in the quest for gravitational waves, the conviction being that their identification could essentially help the examining of the universe. Be that as it may, starting yet, they have been distinguished just indirectly[1]. The expectation of the presence of gravitational waves comes as an immediate outcome of Einstein's hypothesis of general relativity[1], and measuring such waves stays one the last tests of his theory[2]. As per general relativity, gravity can be communicated as a space-time curvature[1], with gravitational waves being "swells" in these four measurements which spread as waves[2]. Not at all like electromagnetic waves, gravitational waves can go through matter without being impeded[3]. For example, the electromagnetic radiation discharged from supernovae blasts will be scattered endless times thus data from the blast will be lost[4]. The same does not remain constant for gravitational waves, which gives them specific criticalness in space science. Pretty much as cosmologists use optical telescopes to watch galactic wonders today, the trust is that the same will be made conceivable utilizing hardware that can distinguish gravitational waves[1]. About all galactic wonders radiate gravitational waves in some form[4], including frameworks, for example, dark opening communications, which have no electromagnetic signature[5]. In this manner, new wonders might get to be discernible if the force of gravitational...

...www.vtpi.org Info@vtpi.org 250-360-1560 Transit Price Elasticities and Cross-Elasticities 25 May 2012 Todd Litman Victoria Transport Policy Institute Abstract This paper summarizes price elasticities and cross elasticities for use in public transit planning. It describes how elasticities are used, and summarizes previous research on transit elasticities. Commonly used transit elasticity values are largely based on studies of short- and medium-run impacts performed decades ago when real incomes where lower and a larger portion of the population was transit dependent. As a result, they tend to be lower than appropriate to model long-run impacts. Analysis based on these elasticity values tends to understate the potential of transit fare reductions and service improvements to reduce problems such as traffic congestion and vehicle pollution, and understate the long-term negative impacts that fare increases and service cuts will have on transit ridership, transit revenue, traffic congestion and pollution emissions. ...1.0 INTRODUCTION School bus has become an important facility in supporting parents at the grassroots in picking and dropping their children off at school. However, the challenges faced by Local Authorities (LA) in terms of demands and funding cannot be over emphasised. One of such LA faced with this dilemma is Middleton Local Education Authority (LEA) which has been chosen for the purpose of this study. In order to address this problem, a statement of the problem is defined with reference to the presenting issues. Secondly, the aims and objectives of this study is stated in an attempt to resolve the presenting issues. Thirdly, key definition of terms is addressed with reference to the school bus problem. Fourthly, a critical review of the literature whilst putting into perspective the methodologies adopted in research. Furthermore, findings from different approaches using computer programs to address the school bus problem are highlighted. In addition, a critical analysis of the school bus problem is attempted whilst putting into perspective transportation management systems, public policy and compliance, appreciation of public transport design and sustainable transport systems. An understanding and knowledge of UK based transport systems is demonstrated with an application to the case study problem. Lastly, limitations are acknowledged, recommendations and conclusions are drawn. Within this, future challenges relating to the school bus problem with reference to transportation...

...Waste Land" by Alan Paton Describe a surprising ending and analyse how it links to the rest of the text. “The Waste Land” by Alan Paton, is about a man who is on a bus. When he gets off the bus, he is attacked by several young men and it is suggested that the men want his purse which contained his wages. This short story has a surprising ending and it helps the reader understand other parts of the text that foreshadowed the ending. “The Waste Land” is very surprising as it ends with the man’s son having been killed in the incident. The short story ends with the narrator realizing that one of the men that have just attacked him was in fact his very own son and that he has just killed his son. When the gang dumps Freddy’s body under the lorry, where the man is, the man moved away from the body as if not wanting to accept his son’s death. The narrator displays the father’s shock and mental agony. This ending is linked to the title as “The Waste Land” suggests that the setting is very desolate, people are desperate and that the people will do anything to help themselves in their time of need even betray their own family. This is shown when the man says “People, arise! The world is dead.” This illustrates how the defender thinks that the world is corrupt. The attackers having waited for him by the bus stop shows that they knew that he would be there thus supports his son having a part in the gang. The ending is foreshadowed by the gang waiting for him to arrive, which shows...

MMI leveraged its relationship with the Canadian entertainment industry to incorporate its clients’ brands into films and TV shows. Greyhound, the country’s largest provider of intercity bus transportation, recruited MMI services to provide cost-effective ways to communicate its marketing message to consumers. Philip Hart, president of MMI, was preparing to make a final pitch to sign up Greyhound as client. For Greyhound, the major competitors include VIA Rail, owned automobile, and airline transportation companies. The consumer segmentation can be divided into three groups including college and university students, newer professionals and established professionals. The target market will be age 18 to 24 college and university young professionals. Philip Hart needs to decide which promotional vehicle would be best for Greyhound’s product placement. The alternative choices include to stick with traditional advertising, or product placement on TV series shows like “Corner Gas” or...

Even advanced learners of English find prepositions difficult, as a 1:1 translation is usually not possible. One preposition in your native language might have several translations depending on the situation. There are hardly any rules as to when to use which preposition. The only way to learn prepositions is looking them up in a dictionary, reading a lot in English (literature) and learning useful phrases off by heart (study tips). The following table contains rules for some of the most frequently used prepositions in English: Prepositions - Time English Usage Example on days of the week on Monday in months / seasons time of day year after a certain period of time (when?) in August / in winter in the morning in 2006 in an hour at for night for weekend a certain point of time (when?) at night at the weekend at half past nine since from a certain point of time (past till now) since 1980 ...

...for owner Lisa Campbell. Decision-making and numerous situations are evaluated to ensure this decision-making will be best not only for the hotel but also that it will benefit the local islanders and the people who visit Kava temporarily. The Marriott Kava hotel is projected to be a medium size facility. The accommodations will ensure local islanders, patients receiving extended health care at the local cancer center, families, couples, and even business travelers will have a place to stay during their visit. The decision is if it will be more beneficial to build a standalone hotel in the middle of the island, merge the business with the local cancer center, or build the hotel near the airport ensuring it is near the new transit shuttle bus company. Building a standalone hotel ensures that if the tourism and visitor rate to the island increases the hotel will have no obligations and commitments to another company and able to focus on just providing space for guest of the hotel. The downside of this is that the business owner limits herself to other business opportunities if the standalone method is sought after. Business is based on the needs of living areas on a temporary basis. The developer that has come to the island to build housing projects for the locals will inadvertently be competition as more people may have the ability to afford long term housing solutions. During the completion of research it was noted that because of the numerous issues the island...

...introducing a new product into its product line. I will decide whether run the project or not. Six issues will be discussed as follows 1) importance of energy cost; 2) project’s cash flows; 3) cost of capital; 4) choose an engine 5) evaluation 6) accept or reject. We should accept the project because of the positive NPV and high IRR. We will gain $532 million in wealth which is a big money on the scale like this. The company has a bond rating of AA that makes the risk relatively low. So we should definitely say yes. Issues Importance of Energy Cost Road King Trucks, Inc. is a truck manufacturing company. The new CEO Michael Livingston arranged a meeting with the firm’s top managers and engineers considering introducing a large, public transit bus into its current product line. As the oil prices keep going high and have no sign of decreasing. Mr. Livingston thought it would lead people more likely to use public transportation. The price of gas has gone up for the 30th day in a row, and with it tempers are rising. Increased demand for public transportation is expected to continue into the spring [1]. The impact of high oil prices makes people more willingly to use public transportation and there will be an increase of riders. The company should adapt itself to the changes of market. Now it is a fashion to be “Green”. People show great environmental consciousness to the world. It is wise to attract people with public transportation and fulfill their demands. Project’s Cash Flows (see...

...Hybrid Bus Fact Sheet The region’s first biodiesel, electric buses will operate on area roads beginning summer 2010. Six new 40-foot Intercity Transit coaches Intercity Transit with a green “bubble” top will operate on a planet-friendly mix of biodiesel, ultra-low sulfur diesel, and electricity. The buses, funded largely with federal stimulus funds, will replace 14-year-old buses. What are the benefits of hybrid buses? Hybrid buses: • Significantly reduce emissions that cause smog, greenhouse gases, and public health issues, • Reduce fuel consumption about 25 %, • Require less maintenance, • Reduce diesel exhaust odor, vehicle noise, and • Have same operating reliability as traditional propulsion engine buses. How does the hybrid bus work? • Diesel-electric hybrid buses use both electricity and diesel, the same concept as hybrid automobiles. • Bus Batteries store energy and recharge when the bus decelerates. When demand for power exceeds battery capacity, the diesel engine provides extra energy. • The stored electricity is used for a cleaner and smoother propulsion. • A computer controls the output of the two power sources, diesel and electricity, so the buses always use the most efficient source. How were these buses paid for? Most of the cost was paid with federal funding. American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds accounted for $2.33 million, $750,669 came from other federal funds, and $575,000 from Intercity Transit (local match). What...
