ADMISSION AS A FACTOR IN THE NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES’ MANAGEMENT PROBLEMS Babatunde Oyedeji Dept of Politics and International Relations, Lead City University, Ibadan ABSTRACT Admission is a necessary foundation building for joining a university institution for study or for scholarship. It is the climax to a string of academic activity starting from the cradle (of applicants) onto the matriculation watershed. Universities therefore take the task of admission of Students into their portals seriously insisting that as part of its basic academic freedom, the University Senate should provide and protect policies and processes for admission. Phillip G Altback described the central elements of academic life as ‘….. the admission of students, the curriculum, the criteria for the award of degrees, the selection of new members of the professoriate, and the basic direction of the academic work of the institution’1. This paper seeks to dissect the background and circumstances affecting and afflicting the admission process and its pivotal role in the business of tertiary education in Nigeria. It will attempt to draw connections as between admissions and variables such as the quality, quantity, stakeholder involvement, institutional effectiveness of the process and how it features as an instrument for higher quality higher education. ...Curtis Fowlkes CIS111 July 14, 2016 Assignment 1: Business Rules and Data Models The purpose of a database is to collect, store and organize data. A database can be abruptly described as a repository for data. This explains that building databases is really an extension of a human activity that has lasted since writing began and it can be applied to the result of any bookkeeping or recording activity that happened long before the arrival of the computer era. The creation of a database is required by the operation of an enterprise. The college keeps records of its students, its instructors, the courses that are taught by the college, the grades the students receive, and the assignments of advisors to students, as well as other aspects of the activity of the institution. Most online databases are measured relational databases and are shaped using controlled query language generally referred to as SQL. This type of database uses multiple tables of data that are related and ties them together with keys; a common identifying code. In database language, the white pages contain a table in which each subscriber is represented by a record and each subscriber record includes three fields: name, address, and phone number. The records are arranged alphabetically by the name field, which is called the key field. Entities are the things in the real world that we will store information about in the database. A student would be one entity and the class would be another...

Bus101 Project

...The project is a down-to-earth one; no ivory tower is there and no Dutch courage is needed. It’s all about mushroom- its cultivation and marketing where investment is extremely possible minimum. No down time exists here, as the state of art technology is not needed. Even it’s neither a capital intensive one. The project is aimed at fulfilling with the very number one basic need i.e., food along with the ex gratia, nutrition, staying at the heart at the agriculture sector, the mother of all industries. The projected outcome is that by investing BDT 2,000,000.00 (equivalent of US$ 25000.00), net income would be BDT 5,995,635.37 which states about 299.78% ROI without any substantial variation, due to the existence of antithesis relationship in between risk and return (because, here risk is at rock-bottom but the return is sky-rocketing). Mushroom Mavens, LLC (proposed) plans to produce and market mushrooms in Bangladesh, a country with a conducive climatic condition for the cultivation of mushrooms. In Bangladesh due to escalating population growth, land to man ratio is decreasing every year. As a result, the land available for cultivation of vegetables is decreasing. These circumstances create a potential market for mushrooms, a vegetable with high nutritious value in it. The price of vegetables is skyrocketing and it is getting beyond the reach of the common people. This inadequate consumption of vegetables has created malnutrition in the general public. In such a situation...

Bus101 Introduction to Marketing and Communications

...BUS101 Introduction to marketing and Communications (MID-TERM ASSIGNMENT) General Instructions Your first formal assessment is an opportunity for you to demonstrate your understanding of the material from the marketing management part of the module (up to and including communication). The task requires you to address a short fictional case. In addressing the assignment topic you must draw explicitly on the chapters and articles noted on QMPlus. You do not need to do reading beyond the module reading list and you should not do any research into the industry, market, product, etc (just make any assumptions clear). Assignment Brief and Backstory You have been lucky enough to secure an internship at Once Dodgy Consultants LLP (ODC), the most prestigious and expensive of all strategic management consultancies, but also a very publicly spirited firm that spends most of its income from commercial activities helping charities and social enterprises reduce poverty and illness. One day, you are working in your cubicle and sense a disturbance in the office, your colleagues rapidly start to disappear muttering “CEO” and “MBC file”. You look up and are surprised to see the CEO of the consultancy leave the elevator and head to your divisional manager’s office, a red file marked “MBC BRIEF TOP SECRET” held distastefully at at arm’s length. The CEO leaves shortly afterwards. You see your divisional manager look forlornly around the office, note you as the only remaining member...

The report will be handed in on October 25th in the BUS101 1-hour seminar. 2.0 Procedure: This report is based solely on secondary research, which in hand is based predominately on the most current information accessible, i.e. the internet and news articles. It has been attempted, as far as possible, to rely solely on acclaimed sources, but more on this issue can be found in Appendix A. 3.0 Findings: 3.1: Strengths: One of the major strengths of Lufthansa is brand recognition. Lufthansa has one of the strongest airlines names in Europe and China; being “the leading European carrier in the Chinese market” (“Eighty Years Lufthansa in China, 2006). This is obviously a big advantage pertaining to customer loyalty, since its name is one of the first to come to the customer’s attention when booking a flight. Besides from the commercial part of flights, Lufthansa...

Mars, Incorporated

...Mars, Incorporated (Chocolate and much more…) Contemporary Business 201160: BUS101-002 Mars, Incorporated is a fascinating company which is so much more than just a candy manufacturer. I was interested in this company because we had purchased stock in the Wrigley Company in 1993 as a gift/investment when my youngest son was born. In 2008, the Wrigley Company was bought by Mars and taken private. Our family had to take a small lost on our shares and no longer received the new development of gum each Christmas. However, it was great move on Wrigley’s behave and for the Mars company as well. Mars is a very diverse organization and does provide a very versatile business plan in this ever changing world and economy. I find it to be an intriguing company and envy it’s progression from a small town at home business to the billion dollar international business it is today. The company began in 1911 by Mr. Frank C. Mars as the Mar-O-Bar Company in his country home kitchen located in Tacoma, Washington. His first products were butter cream candy bars which his family and friends said were the best in the land. He soon outgrew his kitchen when the business started booming and opened his first factory of 125 employees. Quality and value were the foundations for his business and his first mission statement. In 1920, Mr. Mars relocated his factory to Minneapolis, where soon the Snickers (without the chocolate coating) and Milky Way bars were developed and launched....
