Business Communication Trends

Trends in the business communication has made many advances in the last 20 years and will continue to change as time passes. A trend that that has not changed in this time frame is the practice of following up a telephone call with a letter or e-mail to reiterate the conversation. With the ease of sending documents back and forth as well as connecting to the office network from home, going to work can now be as simple as walking to the home office or grabbing the laptop. Communication in the Navajo County Attorney’s Office day-to-day activities is vital. All oral or written communication that no one else knows how to handle goes to the office manager to handle. As office manager with 15 years experience in the office, it is their responsibility to deal with the situation and then train/explain to the others on how to handle that particular situation. By using e-mails to send updates on policy, procedures, or changes in the law, the sender is more confident that the individuals received the information, especially when using the request read receipt option. When an employee broke her ankle and was in a wheelchair and required to keep the ankle elevated above the heart, the employee was allowed to work part-time from home. With wireless, but secure networks, a laptop and stacks of file were sent home with this employee and she would lay on the couch her foot propped up and the laptop on her stomach. This assisted the employee with reducing the amount of sick leave that would need to be turned in, and helped the office out so that the office did not have to try and cover her position for eight weeks.
