XCOM/285 Essentials of Managerial Communication

Communication plays a huge role in my day-to-day activities at work. From communicating with the maintenance person what vats need new oil in them, to letting my grill and service managers know which crew people need breaks at what time. Written communication also plays a huge role in the beginning of our manager shifts. Reading the message’s left before our shift starts in very important, this keeps up up-to-date on what is going on between us the managers and the crew people as well. It also allows to see what if we were plus or minus sales from the day before and if we came out under our projected labor percent. For example, if we were plus on labor the day before we know we have to do all we can to cut more hours and make up for the previous day. Communication helps manage food safety getting, stock, prep and overall operations on the floor getting done. The trends vary from shift to shift and manager to manager. If the day starts out with good communication and things getting done in a timely fashion the day can run very smooth. However say the opening manager had a few calls in and the restaurant became busy right at 7am, then they will probably feel over whelmed and not perform at their fullest potential. This can lead to people calling in, which may not communicated verbally or wrote down.
Advertising plays another huge role in communication. The new trend we have going on is customer’s receiving coupons on their cell phones. The only hard part about this is that we do not have a coupon to take from them, so they can use these coupons over and over again. So we have to make sure that the different types of coupons that are being distributed through e-mails are communicated so we know how much of a specific product(s) we need in order to serve the customers.

...Business communication is critical in day-to-day business. Without business communication, it would be very hard to be successful. In today’s business world, it is much easier to communicate to my leaders, co-workers, employees and business partners. With communication technology growing so strong over the last decade, it is nearly impossible to be “out of the loop” in the workplace. In fact, business can be conducted from virtually anywhere as long as the person has an internet connection. This paper will discuss the role business communication plays in my day-to-day work activities, trends in business communication in the workplace and the messages types that results from these trends. The most common way for me to manage my daily activities is through my company email. My email account is accessible from my business laptop and Smartphone. I can work while in my home office; or I can work from my Smartphone while having lunch at a sandwich shop. What helps me manage my workload within the email function is the ability to “flag” messages. I can “flag” messages for follow up at a later date to remind me when a deadline is due or when I need to respond to that particular message. The “flagged” message will remind me of the follow up based on the timeframe I set. The online calendar in my email allows me to set up appointments and invite attendees. The calendar is also linked to my Smartphone which sends me reminder alerts when appointments are coming up. Another communication...

...Business Communication Trends XCOM/285 Business communication is one of the most important aspects of my day to day life. Every day I communicate with internal and external audiences via phone, email, and face to face conversation. With internal audiences being my co-workers, I speak to them verbally on occasion but most of my communication is done by phone or email. My job specifically is to help organize requests by our company’s external audiences, which are our advisors. Usually the requests are for materials sold by my company via an online store, which the advisor has his/her own username and can log on and place an order. I receive several of these orders on a daily basis. I also receive many internal emails which are new advisors and new/previous clients requesting introduction materials and/or client account paperwork. As previously stated my daily activities consist of responding to phone calls and emails, speaking to the sales representatives and advisors associated with the company. Business communication helps me to manage my daily activities by making my routine precise and consistent. All requests are made through email, even if the original request was by phone call, I will shortly receive an email so all of the transactions are kept on file. This helps me to stay organized and not lose track of what I have completed and what work I still have to finish. I also use my calendar which is located in the company’s intranet server, to see upcoming...
