...Pursuit of Happiness Happiness is a word that is known for its insightful meaning. It is something that everyone wishes for and hopes would happen to them at one point in their lives. I am also a person strives and dreams for this picture of perfection. In my imagination I find happiness as waking up in the morning and getting into my dream car and driving to work at a big successful company. I would picture myself dressed in formal attire wearing an expensive tie and a crisply ironed suit while also getting bonuses every single year. Once I can see picture myself in my dream world, I strive each and every day to work towards that dream goal. I believe that once I reach the highest point of success that is when I will truly believe that I am happy. When I was younger and I dreamed of these goals, but because of my age the best thing I could do at the moment is to fulfill my task as a student and achieve the highest point of educational success. Although I tried to be a straight A student, my success was mediocre. In order to continue to reach my goal I went to extra tutoring hours so that I would be able to improve in the subjects that I was struggling with. With the help from a close friend, I was able to meet with a professor who had plans of opening his own Mathematics Institute. The professor asked me to help around the office and in exchange he would tutor me without any charge. When I went back to school my friends were very surprised with my improvement, they wanted...

... “The American Dream” concept started many centuries ago. When foreigners came to America, the land of hope and opportunity, they all got settled in. Some earned a lot of money and some went from poor foreigner to poor American. In America there is so much inequality when it comes to rich versus poor. That is why America is the only land where it’s possible to have an “American Dream” concept. Take for instance here in Denmark. Whether we like it or not the society won’t allow people to stand out because of the Jantelov. According to The American Dream, anything is possible if you put your very heart and soul into it. The idealistic vision of the American Dream also assumes that people are not discriminated against on the basis of race, religion, gender, and national origin. Take for instance Arnold Schwarzenegger. As a boy he dreamt about being big in the way that people would listen to hear what he had to say. He also dreamed about being an American. All he knew was that America was a wonderful country. He was a young, poor Austrian man when he came to America. He dreamt about being the best in the world at bodybuilding, and after 5 years of hard work, he became Mr. Universe, the best built man in the world. He took business classes in economics, accounting and math. How does one achieve the American Dream? The answer undoubtedly depends upon one’s definition of the Dream, and there are many from which to choose. People’s visions of the American Dream have changed over...

...Princeton or any other highly-notable University with such prestigious of a honor; but neither life nor success in life is solely characterized by acquiring A’s in school. So is it really worth it, and what does it truly mean to graduate with honors? As the film “With Honors” depicted, for Harvard it meant everything, but he realized the bigger picture in the end. I believe graduating with ‘Honors’ should be considered more than a goal. It should be considered a way of life, a lifestyle so to say. In the film, “With Honors”, ‘Harvard’ was at the mercy of Simon, the ‘Harvard Bum’ who found his thesis paper. Even though Harvard failed to graduate with honors from Harvard, he essentially did one thing right when he chose to chase a dream of graduating with Honors. He set his goals high! He set his eyes on the prize and began a figuratively climb upward the likes of a Mt. Everest; with Mt. Everest being his graduation from Harvard with quote, unquote, honors. Simon taught them that just graduating with a flimsy piece of paper can only get them so far, that there is far more to life than meets the eye. “Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence,” as said by arguably the greatest football coach of all time, Vince Lombardi. Life is a never-ending maze and with this comes everyday challenges. Everybody wants to have an inner knack for excellence, an inner desire to be great, success in this crazy...

...Women and Journeys As John Gartner once said, there are only two plots in all of literature, either the main character goes on a journey or a stranger comes to town. Women have however never been the one going on a journey or a stranger that comes to town. Though women have longed to explore the world, they have always been denied participation in public life. “Women and Journeys” by Mary Morris discusses this problem. Mary Morris describes the differences in acceptability and possibility of travelling for the different genders. Historically it has always been the men who went out explore the world, while women stayed at home. This division continued up through time. Women were limited in order to keep them at home. In the western world women were to wear corsets. Significantly the bindings in the corsets were called “stays”. The corsets kept women from going far and from going fast, since corsets are very tightly bound together. In the eastern world women’s feet were broken repeatedly, in order to bend the toes under the bottom of the feet. This made it completely impossible for women to walk, since it was extremely hurtful. Eventually the women’s feet were caught with gangrene, which caused death. So not only were women psychologically restricted from going anywhere, there were literally restricted physically as well As a cause of the conditions women only got to experience the part where a stranger comes to town. As the feminist Elaine Showalter said it: ”Emotions rushed...

...character. When I read a book I usually entirely immerse myself into it; I live in this imaginary world and enjoy it. My favorite book, The Alchemist, written by my favorite writer Paulo Coelho, is a beautiful Fable about following your dreams. Santiago is the central character, and as this fable begins the reader sees the world mainly through his point of view. Santiago’s lifestyle as a shepherd has provided him with a lot of freedom. Santiago realizes that dreaming about what you don’t have is what makes life interesting. That’s why he is particularly suited to findin his Personal Legend. And also he realizes that playing it safe is often more threatening to his freedom than taking a risk. At times we see and feel his fear, but along his journey, he learns to listen to his heart and to trust what his heart teaches him. Santiago makes great change from beginning, to the end of his journey. He learns how to stay true to his dreams and to understand the desert. And he also descovers that “treasure lies where your heart belongs”, and that the treasure was the journey itself, the discoveries he made, and the wisdom he acquired. So this book made me think differently about what you should do in your future. You don´t necessarily need to have business career and be big boss to be happy. There is chance that you might have dreamed about something...

For the sleeper these dreams look real, however the dreamer knows that this is not a reality which makes this a skill that provides hours of enjoyable experience (Susan Blackmore, Lucid Dreaming: Awake in Your Sleep?) There are four sleep stages: Non-rapid eye movement (NREM) stage one, non-rapid eye movement (NREM) stage two, non-rapid eye movement (NREM) stage three and four, which are grouped together due to the many similarities, and lastly, rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. ...According to Merriam-Webster, a dream can be defined as a series of thoughts, images or emotions occurring during sleep. Form many people, sleep can be a disturbing time, but for others it can be a peaceful, longing time of the day. For me, I LOVE my sleep, as well as any dreams that may accompany my slumber. I would like to think I have a very vivid imagination, based on some of the dreams that I encounter. I do find that I can remember most of my dreams, at least for a few hours, however, by the end of the day, I honestly can say that last night’s dream has been long since forgotten. After having a late night talk with my brother a year or so ago, I discovered that he and I are even more similar than I thought. He revealed to me that he often times gets a sense of déjà vu, most frequently after “dreaming”. Ever since I was a teenager, many times I feel as though I encounter situations that I have dreamt about. For example, today while sitting in an office meeting, I was just sitting and minding my own business, when all of a sudden I turned my head and looked at someone giving a presentation, I felt as though I had just dreamt that very scenario a few weeks ago. It certainly can’t be explained, but I got such a weird feeling, that I interpret as déjà vu. I personally do not believe that my dreams solve my problems nor answer my problems. What I do believe however is that my dreams are often times prompted by situations going on in my life. For example, I started...
