...Business Ethics Reflection XMGT/216 July 22, 2012 Business Ethics Reflection In my previous position as a business manager, I had different types of responsibility that were given to me by the Company to run their Telecommunication store properly. After working and training myself for a few months, I was able to employ people who would work full time in the customer service section, such as taking payments from clients and answering the phone. Therefore, I was happy to employ some of my friends that I thought were trust worthy able to make ethical decisions. After a few months of working together in a great path, I decided to take two weeks of work and go on vacation. After returning to work it was time to collect the payments from those clients who prefer to pay cash and deposit into the company’s account. I developed a automated spreadsheet for clients who were paying their monthly bill in cash, after reviewing all the income payments, I noticed that they were an larger amount missing of what it was stating on the spreadsheet. I first thought that it was my error in counting the money, but then quickly realized that the money was not there. I confronted my coworkers, and no one knew were the money went. After a little research of the work schedule, and matching the dates where payments were received. I quickly realized that it could only been two employees. I confronted both without a doubt that I would have no chance but release them both. If there is no trust in an employee...

...Assignment: Business Ethics Reflection Jessica Ybanez-DeLeon XMGT/216 April 3, 2011 Gary Cedrone Business Ethics Reflection Upon thinking back over several ethics dilemma I’ve encountered throughout my employment with the State of Arizona for 18 years, although there are many to choose from, only one comes to mind. My duties and responsibility were to establish and enforce child support cases. In this employment all employee’s were given access to many computer data base such as; social security information, all major credit bureaus, Department of Motor Vehicle(throughout all nation state database), telephone companies including mobile phones, apartment complex to verify tenants, and etc… One of the business ethics that was the most important ethic was the confidentiality, this ethic was not to be broken for there were very serious consequences for not just the business but for the parties related to the information. The dilemma in the business environment description is that I was a Lead Supervisor in my unit, and during my evaluation I’ve come across an issue regarding the confidentiality on a particular employee. The moral personal values that are important to me are as follow; acceptance, diversity, respect, loyalty, and success. But at work my moral ethics are; competence, responsibility, discipline, honesty and trustworthy. When the discovery was made that a female employee used the data base for her own personal purpose, I called her in the office to discuss...

...as most of my international friends went with business administration. I did not like business because of two reasons. First of all, I was not interested in dealing with numbers, money in particular; secondly, at that time on, if someone asked me to describe the defining characteristic of businesspeople with one word, venality would be the first that came into my mind. In my opinion, I thought that business people do not and should not care about anything other than maximizing profit; otherwise they are not good business people. But now, especially after I encouraged myself to take some business courses at school (Business Ethics in particular), I am embarrassed to have to admit this because I realized that I was totally ignorant and biased to have such negative impressions on all the business people. According to Chimamanda Adichie’s words, I have been “reading a single story”. (Adichie, 2009) I found Adichie’s speech was a mind-blower to me. I have always considered myself to be more considerate and knowledgeable than others who are about my age and have similar amount of experience as I do. Even so, whenever people talk about Africa, poverty and epidemic of certain diseases always come into my mind first. I even tried to rationalize my opinion by searching for data from my limited book selections, which I realized later that I was merely using particular cases to generalize the whole, just as how unfairly I judged all business people. I also realized that I was caught up...

...Business Ethics Reflection Business Ethics Reflection Before the ethical dilemma can be described, the understanding of values, morals and virtues must be explained. Values provide an internal reference of what is good, bad, beneficial, and important. Morals is relating to principles of right and wrong behavior; conforming to a standard of right behavior (Merriam-Webster, nd). Virtue identifies the duties or actions and the consequences of them (Stanford Encyclopedia, nd). Each of the concepts is interchangeable and unless knowing the parties involved in the ethical dilemma, the thought that either of these principles was neglected would not have been foreseen. A part of business virtues has a sense of pride, self-respect, the ability to harmonize with others in the workplace and establishing a position in the community. The value system is the written and unwritten codes or ethics that govern the decisions and actions within an organization. The business culture sets the standards for good and bad decision-making and behavior. Organizations attempt to hire employees whose values match their own. They try to find employees...

...Business Ethics Reflection Jean J. Kesner XMGT/216 April 1, 2012 Jeff Harris Business Ethics Reflection We all face ethical dilemmas from time to time in our lives. Making the right decision when faced with these dilemmas is what separates people apart. We all have values and morals that we have been taught or learn from experiences through our lives. Some peoples morals and values are much stricter than others, but nonetheless we all have them. After being hired at my new job three years ago, I was faced with an ethical dilemma that forced me to challenge my own values as well as the company’s values. I had been working for my present employer for about two months. I loved my job, the people I worked with were great, and the company was very supportive of all the employees. I was truly as if I had finally found the place for me. My new boss was awesome; no other words could describe her. She made work fun and also taught me a tremendous amount about banking within those first two months. I will never forget that Friday afternoon when everything would suddenly change. One of my co-workers approached me with a question about loyalty. Would I be loyal to a friend or to my company if I were to have to choose? This was a hard question for me to answer; I wanted to be loyal to both. In this situation there was no way that I could, she explained. My co-worker has suspicions that our boss might be stealing from the bank. This changed things for me. It was no longer a question...

...Every person, irrespective of the standard of ethics that he follows, will most inevitably find himself in a situation where his beliefs and values are going to be tested. At the workplace, we all face some situations wherein we are looked in the face by an ethical dilemma, and we must solve it as some kind of a practical life examination. My past place of work, a small general contractor's office, was no exception either. In retrospect, I feel that the environment there was especially conducive to circumstances that led to a person facing ethical dilemmas, and demanding resolutions for them. Practically every work day brought an ethical dilemma that could directly affect the company's business future - be it about how to, and how much to, reduce pay checks for sub contractors' for poor quality jobs, or controversial and doubtful spec loans performed by the joint construction company, amongst others. During my employment there, I faced numerous ethical dilemmas, but the most noteworthy among them were the ones dealing with moral concepts, values and virtues. The most striking incident which comes to my mind is when the owner of the joint company was confronted with an ethical dilemma on whether to help the other business owner or not. That person was also involved in the new construction business, and had even completed four homes for sale. But then suddenly, the real estate market slid down, making it difficult for him to either sell his homes or afford paying up for all of...

...While working as the Assistant Director of a Summer Camp (for the sixth consecutive year), there was a child, a 10 year old girl, and her younger two brothers. I noticed this particular 10 year old little girl (Krystal) because she not only had a dynamic smile, but she was very loving and very protective of her two little brothers. The ethical dilemma that soon surfaced was the neglect of her mother. Krystal and her brothers often opened the summer camp with me, meaning they were the first children of the day - at 6:00am in the morning and they consistently closed the camp at 6:00pm Monday through Friday. It was difficult to tell whether or not Krystal and her brothers had breakfast before they came to camp each morning, but it was evident (early on) that feeding her children was not the priority of Krystal’s mom; fore although Krystal’s mom drove a brand new Cadillac Escalade, wore brand new clothes, always had her nails done, and dripped of gold - a ring on each finger, long dangling ear rings (3 piercings each ear lobe) and several layers of gold necklaces, Krystal and her brothers only had a corn dog for their long 12 hour day at camp. Not wanting to embarrass Krystal, her brothers or their mom, I started bringing food for all the campers; in fact, I started a snack list and was able to get many parents to donate snacks and juices weekly - this way every child was fed and no one was the wiser. Never did I image that the neglect would continue and actually get worse. ...

...My Reflection on Business Ethics Introduction: For the purpose of this paper, I will briefly talk about my experience in class this semester as a business student. The university has started a new academic period to complete a course. It was rough at first but as time when by, things became quiet and I became more involve in class. I had a great experience with class members who were totally engaged in the class and we had a lot of stimulating conversations. While the pace was so fast, a little hard to keep up with the time, I tried my best to stay on track. It has been a great experience with the new eight weeks process. It astonishes me how business ethics is an important part of the business world as ethic play a significant role in our daily lives. We as individuals need to know how to behave as we move around the world. There are so many people from different cultural backgrounds; we also have the responsibilities to learn about different cultures as we move around. Business ethic has prepared me as an individual to know these things. We come from varieties of backgrounds; ethics are viewed at different prospect in various parts of the world. I had a great Professor who has mastered the subject matter to the fullest, he clearly explain the course as we moved on to the end of the semester. My professor understands that student sometimes go through rough times and he willingly understood their problems. The professor is always physically present, so if there...

Riordan Manufacturing is a fortune 1000 company with revenues that exceed over 1 billion dollars, and employs around 550 people in their three locations. Riordan Manufacturing has recently moved its plastic fan parts plant to China employing around 250 workers in that plant alone. This company is growing in size, locations, employees, and revenue, but there are some ethical and moral problems that need to be addressed in order to continue to grow and expand. Riordan Manufacturing has been in the leading edge of plastics since 1990 evolving into a global business in a time where plastic water bottles have been in high demand, but like anything that is in high demand, it has caught the attention of many professionals in the environmental field, and because of this, questions were raised, procedures were changed, and the environmentalists have demanded a change in the way these bottles are manufactured, as well as the way they are disposed of. These changes will cost the company millions of dollars over the next ten years, and this kind of money could potentially cripple this growing company financially...

...Business Ethics Reflection Matthew Todd XMGT/216 4/22/12 Mike Ishmael Business Ethics Reflection Matthew Todd XMGT/216 4/22/12 Mike Ishmael In my previous job, there was a couple of ethical dilemmas I had over a period of time, but I’m only choosing one of them to focus on in this paper. This situation involved me catching another co-worker stealing products from the shop. I didn’t say anything at first because I thought maybe this person had gotten permission to use these items. I decided from then on that I was going to watch this person closely, to see if they would take anymore products. Sure enough they did, and that was the moment I knew for sure they were stealing from the company. I felt like I had to do something about it, but I just didn’t want the guy to find out that it was me that turned him in or he could retaliate against me. I thought about not saying anything, just so I could avoid causing any waves at work. If I overlooked the problem then I would be going against my moral values when faced with a difficult dilemma like this. Once I thought about the situation more I knew that I couldn’t let that happen, so I decided that the right thing to do would be to confront the person about what they had been doing before I went straight to management and turned them in. Once I confronted them about what I had seen them do. They were initially embarrassed about it, and didn’t know what to say. After talking to them more, I found out that they were having...

...Business Ethics Reflection Russell Meyer XMGT /216 May 22, 2011 Mark Eutsler Business Ethics Reflection Journal Entry – May 21, 2011 It is amazing to me that we live in the 21st century and sexism is still a battle that has to be waged. My friend John is married to Gail, who is in the United States Air Force, and what she experienced recently is mind boggling. I have seen numerous commercials for the United States Air Force promoting how “advanced” they are however I guess in some ways they are still “old school.” Gail has mentioned on several occasions how most of the people she works on base with have very low moral values. What she experienced recently illustrates her point. Gail has been in the United States Air Force for a few years now and is currently stationed here in Washington State. I was visiting John and Gail and over dinner the subject came up about sexism in the United States armed forces. John had mentioned that since Gail was married he didn’t think she would experience much sexual harassment; turns out he was wrong in his thinking. Every third month the personnel in Gail’s unit are evaluated by their unit boss. They are evaluated on just about everything from showing up on time to how they are dressed to their actual work performance. These evaluations are official and are part of each military member’s personal file and these reviews follow them for their entire military career. It seems that Gail was punished for being a married woman who was off...

...Business Ethics Reflection Business Ethics Reflection In today’s world there are so many situations where an individual may have to stop and think about which decision would be the best to make, obviously the best choice and ethic choice is to do the right thing in any situation. However the situation may be that doing the right thing may not have the best result for the person, but this really depends on the situation. When concerning making ethic decisions most people do the right thing without thinking because that is how they were raised. Most people do not think about how they were raised depends on how they make their decisions, but it really does. If you are used to making good decisions because of how you were raised, you will most likely continue to make those decisions, but if you grow up making bad decisions you will most likely continue on that path of the bad decisions. As in a workplace ethics are very important because there are tons of issues that come up in workplaces everyday. Ranging from pay-related issues, family and so on. What many people do not realize is that many of these problems are closely related to person’s morals, which is what they think is right. People will make decisions based on what they are comfortable with because they are so used to making the same choices otherwise. A few years ago I had worked at a Burlington Coat Factory, I enjoyed working there after I had become...

...Business Ethics Reflection Being human, we face ethical dilemmas every day in some way or another. When you look up the meaning of Morals, values, and principles you will find these terms intertwined with each other. Morals, values, and principles are motivation based on thoughts of what is right and wrong. These are a series of beliefs that lead a person to make decisions based on their personal ethics. As for virtue it is defined as the quality or practice of moral excellence or righteousness. Growing up my mother taught me the difference between right and wrong; and every decision that I make would shape me as a person. She taught me that I should always think long and hard about the decisions I made, and to remember there will be consequences; good or bad based on your choices. The assignment asked for me to describe an ethical dilemma that I have faced at work. I really had to think hard and looked back over the many different jobs I have had during my life. I continued coming back to a particular time when I was an accounting clerk at a retail store. I figured out an associate, who I had become friendly with, was stealing money from his register. My job was to balance the receipts from the registers on the floor. My suspicion was peaked when I notice some unusual activities on his register. At first I thought it was maybe a quick change artist scam; wanting to give him the benefit of the doubt. I did not just want to come right out, and accuse him. So I suggest...

...Business Ethics Reflection Anitra C. Barnes XMGT 216 Dr. T. Glaid December 16, 2010 Even in today’s fast –paced world, most people still take the time to use their own personal ethics and morals to make big decisions. There are some individuals who believe that ethics and morals are the right way to make a good decision in life, but there are others who think that they are wrong. Sometimes morals are used without a person even realizing it. This is due in part because of the way a person was raised. Most people do not tend to think about how their upbringing influences their adult lives on a daily basis. As people grow older, there will be a times that s scenario is observed in which unethical and immoral behavior takes place; this can leave another individual in some type of despair. There are individuals out there that build upon their ethical/moral behaviors while others continuously fail to make good ethical judgments. Workplace ethics are extremely important. Tons of issues arise out of the workplace; these include pay-related, issues, family problems, time restraints, and so on. What so many people fail to realize is that a lot of these problems are very closely related to one’s personal morals. So, the truth is that a lot of the ethical problems one has in the work force are due to personal morals. When I was eighteen years old, I started to work for a fast food restaurant. Now this restaurant was open late into the nights, so the restaurant typically...

...Business Ethics Reflection Katie Bernt XMGT/216 November 1st, 2015 Nicole Dinan Business Ethics Reflection Introduction A company I used to work for carried many different brands of high end skin care and make up. At this company, it was very important to monitor the testers that were made available for the clients to try on in the store or to take home in a small sample. Many of the brands did not distribute any or enough of their products in tester form; rather, it was common for us to have to “damage” a product out of what was called “live inventory” for use as a tester. That meant that we could take a product off of the shelf, scan it out of “live inventory”, place a tester sticker on it and use that as the tester. When I use the term “high end” as it relates to the skin care and other products that we sold, I am talking about quality and price point. It was not uncommon to have facial serums that were $500 or more, along with fragrances that were close to $1000, and cosmetics where the average price point for a lipstick or eyes shadow was around $40. Tester usage was not as closely monitored by the management as it should have been. The policy of the store was to use a tester until there was almost nothing left. The policy of the visual merchandising department, along with some of the brand managers in the store, was to never have a tester that was less than half full on the shelf. It is easy to see that the conflicting nature of these policies allowed...
