Abstract
Rhetorical Triangle is the active correlation between the speaker, the audience, and the situation of a presentation or speech. The rhetorical triangle determines the success of a presentation or speech. When a speech executes the three primary elements of the speaker, the audience, and the situation in balance the Rhetorical Triangle is effectively complete.

I watch two videos both of students giving presentations on subjects in which they did a vast amount of research prior to the presentation. The first video was of a student Lisa Amiot, a Marketing student at the University of Ottawa who did a presentation on drinking and driving. Lisa presentation immediately caught my attention. She started out by pouring herself a drink, taking a sip and then putting her keys into the drink, saying “Drinking and Driving don’t mix. Lisa believed in her message and her body language, her engagement with the audience was translated to her spectators. Lisa enthusiasm, deliverance, proficiency, and her predisposition, directly affected the way in which I and the audience perceived the message and influence us to believe that it was of importance. Lisa ended her presentation returning to her drink lifting it in the air and concluding that a zero tolerance law would be effective.
The second video was of another student Emily Johnson who gave a presentation on Marketing. Emily while the presentation contained so great points in Marketing, Emily didn’t present it well. She basically zipped through the presentation nervously, twittering in her hair. I couldn’t tell whenever the transition in the presentation was made because of the mumbling and low tone. The presentation was a disaster and not effective at all.
Lisa presentation was the most effective. She knew her subject; she captured the audience attention with the subject matter by including her age demographic, using situation in which they all could relate to. This presentation allowed Lisa to be able to compete in the McGraw Hill Ryerson Business Presentation Challenge on July 31, 2008.
