Abstract

This assignment is a business plan for the hypothetical school, Leaders of Tomorrow Preparatory Academy. The business plan contains all of the necessary components needed to demonstrate the efficacy and legitimacy of LOTP as a viable business model. It is my goal to show that a private school can be founded and run viably according to the model that I have provided.

Mission Statement
Leaders of Tomorrow Preparatory Academy is a private institution that will offer an affordable high quality education to economically disadvantaged youth. We believe that a strong education lays the foundation for success later in life. To this end, we believe in educating the whole child. Our curriculum is built around both the student’s academic and personal growth. The institution challenges the status quo by offering those who would not have had the opportunity otherwise, a chance to receive a first class education.

LOTP will endeavor to close the achievement gap by offering a rigorous academic curriculum, combined with challenging and engaging extra curricular activities. Students will also be teamed with guidance counselors and mentors across various professional fields. This will help students find their chosen path and maximize their potential. Working with professionals in a real life setting will also give students role models to aspire to beyond those that they encounter via television and other main stream media.

Vision Statement
Leaders of Tomorrow Preparatory Academy endeavors to continue growing. The school will continue to seek out the best teachers available, as well as seeking out the best mentorship opportunities for its students. Overall performance of the school will be made available in statistics in order to demonstrate the success of the school and acquire performance based funding. LOTP seeks to be the premier private academic institution in the New York City area.

2.0 Company Summary

School Location
Leaders of Tomorrow Preparatory (LOTP) is intended to reach a particular segment of children in grades 9-12 from low socioeconomic backgrounds in New York City. Targeting students from Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx and putting them in a school that is located in Manhattan. This would afford them the opportunity to see areas outside of their neighborhoods and take advantage of learning opportunities that are located in Manhattan.
School Operation
Leaders of Tomorrow Preparatory (LOTP) is unique, because it is a chartered magnet school. There is a test that is required for admission into the school. The test will identify fundamental scholastic abilities, but also other skills that may be overlooked in traditional schools. Since the government will fund this school we must adhere to the basic curricular requirements of the state, but are still free from many of the regulations that apply to conventional schools.
School Policies
Leaders of Tomorrow Preparatorybelieves that the future student success is determined by good attendance at school. Parent’s attitude to regular and on time attendance is paramount in avoiding future truancy. Lastly, successful students are well organized and dressed in the required uniform on a daily basis. Since this a school, there are many different policies for each particular member, such as students, parents, and faculty, so it would be lengthy to write them all in this section.
2.1 Company Ownership
I am the founder and CEO of LOTP, and I consult senior management. The school is given a charter to operate in the State of New York, and therefore will receive federal funding. However, Leaders of Tomorrow Preparatory has an endowment fund that was set up by a private organization, and that is controlled by a Board of Trustees.
2.2 Company History
The formation of Leaders of Tomorrow Preparatory started after recognizing a segment of the high school aged student population was at a disadvantage. These students often do not have the support system that is required to nurture their abilities. The scholars would have access to social workers that would help them with possible dysfunctional family setting to overwhelming of school.

3.0 Company Services Leaders of Tomorrow Preparatory has always believed that children can aspire to great heights if we raise expectations and provide adequate support. The educational environment at LOTP is challenging, but well deserved. Students learn logic and rhetoric so that they can analyze problems and present solutions. They have the option to learn one, or all, of: Latin, Mandarin, French and Spanish. They learn to analyze texts, solve algebraic expressions, and identify chemical compositions. Students can challenge themselves in such classes as Mandarin, Creative Writing, Theater, and Fencing. Yoga will be included in physical education, as a way to enlighten the students about different relaxing methods. Necessary skills of organization, time management, and study habits are taught as part of the fundamental classes.

4.0 Market Analysis Summary
Leaders of Tomorrow Preparatory School will primarily market itself to the parents of students in grades 7 – 12. Although the school will be a grade 9 – 12 establishment, the reasoning is that many families begin looking into high school admissions around this time. This will give those who are interested, but not of age, time to prepare for entry testing. We intend to primarily target families on the lower end of the socioeconomic strata, but whose children posses the talent and latent ability to possibly become upwardly mobile with the right education and support system.
Studies show that success later in life can be attributed to preparation earlier on. Leaders of Tomorrow Preparatory School offers just that. Our rigorous academic curriculum and sophisticated extra-curricular activities, combined with the connections that they will be encouraged to make with mentors in various professional fields will give students an advantage that they would not have had otherwise. To appeal to potential students, we will offer junior and senior students regular college tours to campuses around the country where our highly qualified guidance counselors will guide them through the college admissions process. All this is in an effort to help individuals who would never have the chance otherwise.

5.0 Web Plan
The Leaders of Tomorrow Preparatory School will have a website: www.LeadersofTomorrow.edu. The website will serve two purposes: to inform prospective students and parents about the advantages and programs that the school offers, and to raise capital through private donors and the sale of merchandise. The informative portion of the site will include profiles on all faculty members. There will also be profiles on the outside entities that offer mentorship to our students. Statistics on retention, graduation, and college acceptance rates will also be made available to parents. The financial portion of the site will offer prospective donor an option to donate funds to the school, as well as any perks they may receive from doing so. The school will also explore the possibility of selling merchandise. This is similar to how many colleges sell branded items. The merchandise would be made available to anyone interested in purchasing them. The students would of course receive the items for a heavily discounted price, if not for free. Any money made on these sales would go directly to funding the institution.

6.0 Strategy and Implementation
S (Strength): Investing in the education of the youth is never a bad investment. These are the people who will become the next generation of doctors, teachers and lawyers. Another strength in this plan lies in its philanthropic nature. Opening up a school that would primarily serve lower income families offers a sense of personal fulfillment that not many other experiences offer.
W (Weakness): A possible weakness might lie in getting people to buy into the notion of financing the education of those less fortunate. We may have to deal with the harsh reality that many simply do not care if there are other that are less fortunate than themselves. Another potential weakness lies in addressing some of the social ailments that often plague those who exist in a lower socioeconomic stratum.
O (Opportunities): Recently President Barack Obama signed bills to support schools that perform to certain academic standards. This is in line with the resurgence in the interest in education. This is the perfect opportunity for LOTP. The school’s success can possibly ensure even more funding. It would also raise the profile of the school, allowing for even more distinguished faculty and mentors to come aboard with the mission of the school.
T (Threats): A potential threat to the program lies in the hiring of faculty not equipped to deal with some of the issues that this segment of inner city youth face. These days, many education curriculums include courses on dealing with urban adolescents. If for one reason or another, an instructor not have the knowledge on how to identify and deal with these issues, a rift can occur between teacher and student that can have disastrous results. Conversely, if students are not receptive to the teachers or curriculum, they will not engage as they should and time and resources can be wasted.
The edge that LOTP will have over other private educational institutions will be its emphasis on real world education. It will not only prepare students for standardized tests, but also for life beyond what is expected of people from their backgrounds. They will be given a first class education that will rival that of their more affluent counterparts. As mentioned before, there will be opportunities for students to match up with mentors in the professional settings. This combined with the emphasis on preparing students for higher education.
As this is not a for profit business, there are no actual sales forecasts in the traditional sense of the word. Instead, there will be reports on general student body progress, grants and donations acquired and expenditures.

8.0 Financial Plan
Financial Plan
The school will open up with a first year budget of 20 million dollars. This 20 million will be dissipated as such:
Personnel (Faculty and Staff) Position | Quantity | Avg. Salary | Total Cost | Teacher | 30 | $45,000 | $1,350,000 | Social Worker | 4 | $45,000 | $180,000 | Guidance Counselor | 4 | $45,000 | $180,000 | Extra Curricular | 10 | $29,500 | $295,000 | Cafeteria | 5 | $19,000 | $95,000 | Custodial | 6 | $19,000 | $114,000 | | | | |
Total: $-2,214,000
Spacing & Utilities Location/Utilities | Square Feet | Monthly Fee | Total Yearly Fee | Manhattan, NY | 30,000 Sq. Ft | $32,000 | $384,000 | Water | | 5,500 | $66,000 | Gas | | 2,600 | $31,200 | Electricity | | 4,000 | $48,000 |
Total: -$529,200

Revenue Stream Revenue | Monthly Intake | Yearly Intake | Student Tuition | $140,000 | 1,680,000 | Donations | TBD | TBD | Grants | TBD | TBD |
Total: > $1,680,000
One of the few streams of revenues will be derived from a nominal tuition of 350 dollars. This tuition collected from the initial 400 students will amount to $1,680,000 dollars. This will be compounded by any donations or grants that the school may receive.
Tax Status
Leaders of Tomorrow Preparatory Academy plans to file for tax exempt 501 (c)(3) status. This will hopefully allow LOTP to avoid having to pay federal taxes.

7.0 Management Plan
Below is a copy of what a potential candidate for employment at Leaders of Tomorrow Preparatory School might see when applying for a position.
Become a Member of the LOTP Team

There are a few factors that determine hiring rates at LOTP, the most important of which is funding. Expecting to start with a 20 million dollar budget, hiring the very best teachers available will be at the top of the school’s priorities. Revenue after that will be incumbent upon donations, fundraising and grants. Should this allow for it, we will continue to seek out the top educators to teach at our facilities. If for some reason, it does not allow for it, we will adjust our hiring practices accordingly.

1.0 Executive Summary
Leaders of Tomorrow Preparatory School
Leaders of Tomorrow Preparatory School will be a private institution catering primarily to students on the lower socioeconomic end. The school endeavors to identify the students with the most potential and groom them for success. This will be done through a rigorous academic curriculum, sophisticated and stimulating extracurricular activities, engaging mentorship and prepping for the best in higher education. The school will initially be funded by a 20 million dollar federal endowment. After that, the school will be funded by private donations, grants and student tuition. In order to acquire more funding and grants, it is necessary for the school to achieve and then maintain a high standard of academic excellence. There is also a possibility to further increase revenue by the selling of branded merchandise. The staff will be carefully selected from amongst the best possible candidates. Each teacher must have at least a Master’s degree in their chosen field; written or published work is a plus.

...Business Proposal Joseph Hunt ECO 561 Feb-24-2014 Warren Mathews Business Proposal In today’s economic society creating and investing time and money into a new business is very risky to say the least. A couple of things to look at are market structure and elasticity of the product or service. In this business plan I have decided to create a business that surrounds a service versus a product, the service that I plan on providing is a personal advocate to nursing and rehab facility residents. The service will include being a personal confidant to the resident and family as well as a medical advocate to the family. The market structure for this type of business in a Pure Monopoly due to the fact that Alabama does not have personal resident advocates that I can locate by looking into the local and state businesses. Every medical facility has what is called an Ombudsman and their role is to be and advocate and an investigator for both the state and the resident but there are no individual businesses that off this type of service. This type of service could be considered both an elastic good and not, a raise in price could cause a large decrease in the demand because the family could easily rely on the ombudsman but if the family decides to rely on the ombudsman they run the risk of not having a person that is solely on the side of the resident and family. In terms of elasticity it could work in my favor or work against me, I will just have to stay flexible and allow my...

The second part of this paper will explore the effects of human resources outsourcing on leadership performance and employee commitment. This paper will show that human resources outsourcing has a negative effect on employees and their morale. Part 1 Formal research provides basic information and statistics in a given field or industry depending on the focus of the research. Research will reveal whether the market for the product is flooded or if it is indeed a good business opportunity. A business proposal is a document that proposes a method for completing a task. A business proposal can be used for launching a new product or for something like implementing a new strategy for a marketing campaign. “A proposal includes a brief description for the task at hand, a section describing the general approach to the task, a schedule for the task in question and a budget...

...Business Proposal ECO/561 May 11, 2015 Business Proposal Introduction Transportation has evolved tremendously in today’s world. If someone does not have a way of transportation, there is a taxi service available and now a business called Uber. Uber is a company that is available to consumers to request a ride and pay via the mobile app. Uber is available in more than 50 countries and is expanding. This seemed to be very convenient to the consumers because they can go anywhere and even reserve a driver for a day for an individual price. Market Structure There are four basic types of market structure. They are as followed; Perfect Competition, Oligopoly, Monopoly, & Monopsony. Uber is fundamentally a marketplace, where supply is controlled not by the company but by the legion of independent contractors and transportation providers with whom they work. (Gurley, n.d.) That being said, their market structure is an Oligopoly because Oligopoly has to do with several large sellers who have some control over their prices. Elasticity of the product Price elasticity is imperative. Uber’s analysis and research have shown that both the supply curve and the demand curve are highly elastic (Gurley, n.d.). Uber lets the customers do the talking since the goal is to please them. Price elasticity tells how much of an impact a change in price will have on the consumers’ willingness to buy that item (Tuck, 2015). If the price is too high for the consumer, then they will most likely...
