Chapter 16 1. I believe that employers have a 100% say on whether or not they will allow smoking at their workplace. If they are the owner than they should be allowed to tell their workers and/or customers that they are not allowed to smoke. If the owner of a restaurant says they do not want smoking by the customers or workers indoors nobody will complain. Why should it be any different in a different business? An employer is still an employer and they still have a say of what they allow at their workplace. 2. I believe it is absurd and extremely unfair to restrict or ban smoking by their employees out of their workplace. At this point it almost becomes as if the employer is a dictator and is able to control the aspects of their employee’s lives for something as simple as them wanting to relax and smoke some cigarettes or a cigar on their free time at home. What they do at home will not affect what happens at their workplace. It is also unfair to charge a smoker more for health insurance. As stated in the article the higher the health insurance the more you get charged by the government. Everyone know that nicotine is addicting and it is hard to stop. It is not fair to take extra money out of someone’s pocket who may need to feed a family for something as simple as them smoking at home or out of the workplace. 3. I do not believe that the government should be allowed to ban smoking at all workplaces. I believe it should be up to the discretion of the employer. After all, it is their business. 4. Multinational firms should not have a single corporate policy on smoking in the workplace. They should vary their policies depending on local laws and norms of behavior in various countries where they do business.
