The second music producer we are going to talk about is Bryan David "Butch" Vig. Butch Vig was born on August 2nd in 1955. Butch is an American music producer and also a musician he is best known internationally as a drummer of the band from Madison, an alternative rock band Garbage and the best known as the producer one of the greatest selling album Nevermind by Nirvana. Vig had been based in Madison for much of his career, from studying at the University of Wisconsin, to performing in local bands which were Spooner and Fire Town, and then to setting up his own recording studio called Smart Studios. After becoming well known as a producer, he returned to performing with the alternative rock band Garbage, who sold almost 17 million records over a ten-year period. Vig returned to producing full-time once Garbage was put on hiatus.

Vig contributed several electronic music soundtracks to some low-budget films, including one song on Slumber Party Massacre. This soundtrack work stirred Vig's interest in the working, engineering and manipulation with sound. Besides tha Big also joined a number of garage pop bands, including Eclipse, and in 1978 formed Spooner with Joel Tappero, Duke Erikson, Jeff Walker and Dave Benton. The following year, Vig helped fellow student Steve Marker to build a home studio in the basement of Steve Marker. Vig and Marker also started a small label called Boat Records, to release records of both Spooner – which included their 1979 debut EP, Cruel School , and other bands they liked, which lead to around twenty local acts.
