Transformation: Before Rory was a horse, she was parts of various metal objects such as metal cabinet drawers, old vehicles, and possibly scraps of automobiles. As I observed the sculpture, I noticed a drawer handle on the side of the horse’s head. The second thing I noticed is the gas tank door on the side of one of the horse’s leg proving that Rory was made from old rusty automobiles.
Trash-to-Treasure: The common object that used in Old Man’s Cloth by the artist El Anatsui is aluminum pieces, soda caps, and copper wires. Most of the aluminum pieces seem to be found from inexpensive materials like soda caps and aluminum foils from wine/liquor bottles, to project the idea that regardless of your social status, anything can be handmade to …show more content…
The second object is one of my favorite art piece created by Chui-Hyun Ahn called Well 4. Both sculpture have different characteristics, but seem to show a dark and mysterious emotion. Viewing object 1, you’re focusing on the outer texture and look while object 2, you have to look within.
Rewrite: The scene on the Jade Boulder, from my observation I think a little girl and her grandfather take a stroll through the wood to a relaxing location. As the grandfather relaxes on the edge of a rock, the little girl run behind to show him what she found on the trail. It is moment of family relaxing and enjoying one another company.
Just the Essentials: What I think the Untitled metal sculpture (created by Joel Shapiro), is communicating a sense of tiredness since it has been compressed so many times that textures on the sculpture translate to being used up like crumpled piece of paper. The rigid textures on the sculpture could mean that there a story behind each compression. The emotion this piece is expressing is sadness and dark based on the dull colors the artist used for this art piece.
