On 10/18/17 I was assigned a CPS referral, intake #3719676. The summary of the referral stated Georgia Bell claimed on 10/15/17 her father, Dwayne Bell, had struck her on the with an open hand twice, while they were at their residence located at 5121 S 297th PL in the City of Auburn, King Co, WA.

The referral stated on 10/16/17 Georgia's teacher found a note written by
Georgia to one of her friends. The teacher provided the note to the school counselor, Jillian Hove. Hove said the note stated the night prior Dwayne was angry at Georgia for a letter she wrote to her mother, Monica Bell. The note stated Dwayne told Georgia to get out of the house, and Georgia went outside to the front porch. The note stated Dwayne went outside, hit Georgia on the head …show more content…
The note stated Dwayne hit her so hard it she believed she had a concussion. The note went on to say Dwayne followed Georgia to her room and called her a "piece of shit", "slut", "whore" and told her she was not his daughter. The CPS referral also stated at the time of the incident, Georgia felt suicidal.

On 11/04/17 at about 1030 hours I contacted Dwayne, Monica, and Georgia at their residence. I spoke to Dwayne and Monica about the incident first.

I informed the two of them I was contacting them regarding a CPS referral.
Dwayne told me he know what I was talking about and added CPS had already contacted them about it.

I asked Dwayne to explain what happened. Dwayne told me he and Monica had been having issues with Georgia since July of 2017. Dwayne and Monica both explained
Georgia has been sneaking out of the house, spending the night with males they do not know, and has been cutting herself. Dwayne explained the cuts are not deep, and more like minor scratches.

Dwayne said because Georgia has been acting out, her and Monica have been disciplining her by not taking her cell phone away from her, and grounding

But, as Jane Waldfogel explains, it has also begun developing prevention procedures for children at lower risk—those who are referred to CPS but whose cases do not meet the criteria for ongoing services. Preventive services delivered by CPS to high-risk families, says Waldfogel, typically include case management and supervision. The families may also receive one or more other preventive services, including individual and family counseling, respite care, parenting education, housing assistance, substance abuse treatment, child care, and home visits. Researchers generally find little evidence, however, that these services reduce the risk of subsequent maltreatment, although there is some promising evidence on the role of child care. Many families receive few services beyond periodic visits by usually overburdened caseworkers, and...

Literature Review of Family Structural Changes and Juvenile Delinquency

...Literature Review Family Structural Changes and Juvenile Delinquency To develop a well-formulated theory on family structural changes playing an impact on juvenile delinquency, it is imperative to discern what other information exists surrounding the topic. There are multiple sources that seek to determine what factors influence kids/teens to turn into delinquents, from either a stable, loving home or a place filled with toxic disasters. This study is focused on analyzing how these various factors within a family within a family impact a child's likelihood of experiencing juvenile delinquency, but more specifically how family changes are a factor. My proposed research studies the question by studying individuals, making persons my phenomena. Using the existing studies as a basis of knowledge will provide the framework for a new theory involving the significance of family structural changes. One of the major functions of the family is to protect, teach, and train children so that they become competent, productive adults and if that job is not done properly, then it can be assumed that the family has failed to do its job (Kunz, 2001b). Variable: DIVORCE We first have to look into whether juvenile delinquency is related to divorce. Cynthia Price and Jenifer Kunz created a meta-analysis, involving 72 studies where meta-analysis is the quantitative statistical analysis of several separate but similar experiments or studies in order to test the pooled data for statistical significance...

Outreach on the streets and in shelters is often the first point of contact for people who are not served by traditional sitebased services and is often the first step in engaging homeless people in services. While outreach and engagement are critical components of the response to homelessness, consensus is lacking about the nature and effectiveness of these services. The purpose of this paper is to examine what is known about outreach and engagement for people experiencing homelessness. The authors review quantitative studies that examine outcomes and augment this understanding with information from qualitative studies and non-research literature. The latter provides information about the goals of outreach, assumptions and values, staffing issues, and consumer involvement. The paper concludes with implications for practice, policy, and research. Keywords: Homeless/homelessness, outreach,...

Community Assessment of Village Meadows Elementary School

...Running head: VILLIAGE MEADOWS COMMUNITY ASSESSMENT Community Assessment of Village Meadows Elementary School Grand Canyon University Community Health October 18, 2010 Community Boundaries This community is comprised of school-aged children ranging from kindergarten and lasting up until sixth grade. The phenomological community is represented in the fact that the community members are all considered to be in elementary school. The community is made up of children with and without special needs and learning disabilities. These children live in the geopolitical area of Bell Road to the 101 Freeway, and between 19th Avenue and 25th Avenue. This area is the pre-determined area set forth by the county to represent the appropriate amount of households for the school size. The community expands and shrinks as students move into or out of this plotted area. They represent people who are mostly Caucasian and Hispanic, but there is a blend of Slavic and Middle Eastern community members. Many of the community members live in apartments or other grouped housing, and has the ability to interact outside of school as well. Assumptions The main assumptions of the community include that some of the children will be poorly educated because of the community in which it resides. It is also assumed that these children are not going to be eager about school, particularly high school and college because the percent of bachelor level families is...
