Gun control policies should be stricter for people who wants to own a gun and for the store owners who sale them. The Hoffman Gun Center and Indoor Range require that gun owners have pistol permits that want to buy assault rifles. According to the Department of Emergency Services and Public Safety the law requires that a person who wants to buy a gun be at least 21 years of age, no convicted felonies, background check, and take a safety and storage course (Hoffman, 2001, newspaper). In America at least 400 children will die because of unintentional gun injuries. This happens when children find guns indoors improperly stored and they play with them with their friends or family (Farah, Simon, Kellerman, 1999, p12). ...Guns Don’t Kill People, Idiots with Guns Do My mother had a bumper-sticker that read, “I have the right to arm bears,” a play on words, of course, to the second amendments, “The right to bear arms.” As an advocate of Gun Control, she found that hilarious. Between advocates and antagonists of the “right to bear arms,” there are two primary and opposing interpretations of the second amendment. Proponents interpret it to apply to the individual, while antagonists believe it guarantees a collective right, not an individual right to bear arms. There is law to support both sides. I am not going to argue the merits of either view from a constitutional perspective; instead, I want to show that firearms in general are an impediment to American society, not a benefit. The only solution that will help to protect society is Gun Control. Primarily, we need to restrict gun ownership, the types of firearms/ammunition allowed and who is allowed to possess them. To put it nicely, you would have to be a person of diminished capacity to not believe that there is a relationship between firearms and the escalating rate of deaths in America. Our rates of murder, suicide, and accidental deaths by firearms are one of the highest (compared to other developed countries) in the world. In the aftermath of multiple occasions, President Obama has publically called for stronger gun control laws, specifically calling for stricter background checks among other provisions. In response to the public’s concern for safety, the president used executive action which increased the number of businesses which require federal licenses to sell guns, thus increasing the number of dealers requiring background checks when selling firearms (National Conference of State Legislatures, 2016). This is, of course, not a one-sided argument. The subject creates strong feelings across the political spectrum. Gun rights groups, such as the NRA, suggest that gun control laws are not only unconstitutional, but actually leave citizens in more danger by preventing them from using their best form of protection (National Rifle Association, 2015). ...The Great Gun Debate Introduction Among the more diverse issues in an already polarized society is a national perspective of guns (Hargrove & Perdue, 2015). The gun debate in the U.S. dates back to the 18th century, when the nation’s founders were crafting the Bill of Rights—the first ten amendments to the Constitution, adopted in 1791 (Smith & Ross, 2013). All gun control debates turn on interpretations of the Second Amendment, the worst written and most bizarre part of the constitution (Eichenwald, 2015). The Second Amendment gave Americans the right to “bear arms;” however, for more than 200 years, people have disagreed over how to interpret the amendment (Smith & Ross, 2013). Heated debates over guns have created division among “we the people.” On one end of the divide are pro-gun extremists. On the opposite end of the divide are anti-gun extremists. Then, there is the rational middle—the group that is often left out of the debate. This group typically consists of average law-abiding citizens who do not believe that Americans should be stripped of their rights to bear arms, but, rather, that some laws should be tightened up to ensure that guns and deadly accessories, such as high-capacity magazines, stay out of the wrong hands. The client revealed a lot to the worker, and was quite willing to do so, which indicates some level of trust and comfort with the worker, regardless if the client was “flat”. 2. The Worker, in my opinion makes little if any assumptions, and any that are made are clear and backed up by a quote from the client or based on facts relayed by the client, and are reasonable in nature. All of her writings are as stated by the client or based on the client’s story. 3. Kate is depressed. She has lost interest in the things that previously used to give her pleasure. She has pulled away from friends, and the church choir, since the passing of her mother 2 years prior, stating not having the energy to add it to the list of things to do. Kate does not recognize the positives in the things she has endured and commanded in her life. It seems to me that she has always been wrapped up in her mom’s problems/life, all of her life, since the passing of her father, and as a result, she has forgotten about Kate! She no longer has her mom to worry about, and it is my opinion that she has lost a big part of who she was, and is depressed due to that as the root problem. 4.
