...society. It is scary to think that the schools we feel our children are safe is now a concern and even a nightmare. We entrust the institutions to keep them safe and protect them from harm. It is disturbing and frightening when the violence is happening inside these institutions as well as outside. Parents have no place where they can feel their child/children are safe, but with them. Bullying, one of the major issues students face in school, has become a dilemma in today’s society which for many reasons has caused young adults, teenagers, and children to react negatively. T. J. Lane, age 17, is a suspect in the Chardon High School shooting, which took place in Chardon, OH. It was February 27th, 2012, at 7:30 am in the Chardon High School Cafeteria when Lane, whom at the time was attending Lake Academy, a school for at risk youth; fired ten shots from a .22- caliber handgun killing three students, Daniel Parmetor, 16, Russell King Jr., 17, and Demetrius Hewlin, 16, and injured two other students Joy Rickers, 18, and Nick Walczak, 17. After Lane fired the ten rounds killing the three students, he fled the building through the east door of the parking lot and into the woods. Officials found Lane around 8:40 am where he was then taken into custody. When questioned by officials Lane confessed to bringing the .22-caliber and a knife to school, with no specific victims in mind. Some students feel otherwise, Nate Muellen , a student at Chardon High School, stated that one of the students...

...“big Idea” contest hosted by the Marketing and Communications Department at Texas A&M at Qatar. The product was created and developed based on the students’ and staff members’ needs values and attitudes. Students and staff members value time more than anything. As engineering students, and the people working in the engineering society time is what makes everything happen. They need something that is efficient and quick. At Texas A&M the cafeterias are too small to accommodate the whole students and staff. So, they tend to go to other places outside the university to provide themselves food, which is time consuming. Therefore, this project is developed to decrease the amount of time they need in order to provide themselves food. The idea is basicity expanding the cafeteria at Texas A&M at Qatar in another location that will accommodate larger number of people, and to create a better environment to the students and stuff. The location that was chosen will accommodate around 100-150 person. Along with expanding the cafeteria, a buffet going to be add with more food to serve for the number of students/staff members. The selection of food is going to be following a standard food pyramid with the types of food need for the body to function and be healthy. The next stage was to illustrate a way to present this idea to the Marketing and Communications Department and to the audience of the idea. I chose to present my idea as a brochure that has all the information that is...

...First and foremost, I would like to give thanks to God for all of his everlasting blessings. I would also like to thank ACE American Industries for this wonderful opportunity to participate in such a gracious and beneficial program for the sake of our children. Thank you and God bless. My name is Merton M. Hunkin. I am a parent of 3 beautiful children that attend the Aua Elementary School. I am also the current president of the Parent Teacher Association. When I first took office, I immediately performed an inspection on the school. Upon the completion of my inspection, I knew that I had my hands full because there were so many problems within the school that needed immediate attention. Once I identified the issues and problems that needed to be fixed, I immediately began to search for answers. I have been in and out of the D.O.E. headquarters seeking help. Unfortunately, there is not enough funding. We have also requested assistance from our adopted government agencies. Unfortunately for us, this means of support has come to a stalemate. The problems that currently exist in Aua Elementary School are just too overwhelming for us to repair in a timely manner without any financial assistance. We have tried fundraising, but unfortunately the money that we have raised so far is nowhere near enough to make the repairs needed. So when I heard of the ACE Helpful Hands Program, I knew for a fact that this is an opportunity that I absolutely cannot afford...

...raised by my mother with six siblings. Life as I remember it was very difficult for her as a single parent to provide for us, but she never gave up and did whatever she had to do to see us through. The harshness of life was not apparent to me because our situation was not unique, many of my friends and neighbors were in similar position. My perspective on life changed when I entered high school and realized that my norms were totally different from a lot of other children. I had two pairs of uniforms that I wore interchangeably each week, for some of us that was normal for others that was repulsive. Buying lunch was never a luxury I could afford, so I brought whatever was available from home, others would buy their lunches from the school cafeteria and off campus. I often ask myself why was I born in such poverty, and the only conclusion I could come to, was the lack of money and education in my family. My mother was a factory worker and my father, who was absent for most of my life was an occasional truck driver, neither of whom has ever attended high school. Realizing at an early age that lack of education and money was the root cause of my family’s poverty I decided to take things in my own hands. I believed in my heart that this was temporary stop on life’s journey, it could not be my destiny. I did absolutely nothing to cause this on...

...Institution<> Dated<> Summary of the Journal Article A research was undertaken to examine the fruit eating habits of the children in elementary and middle schools. This research showed that apart from general hatred among the children for fruits, there are certain other reasons which turn to affect their eating habits, psychologically. One of them was spotted as the form in which the fruits are presented. Researchers said, on average slice cut fruits are more liked by the children as compared to whole fruits. In this experiment, three of six schools were allotted randomly to serve apples in cuts. The variable set was the amount of fruit intake by the students in the schools. Three control schools served apples as a whole, in their cafeterias. Determination, utilization, and misuse of apples were measured before and amid treatment. (Robert, Washington) This result suggested the key finding that in the schools where slice-cut pieces were served, the fruit eating students’ percentage increased by 71% as compared to the schools which served whole fruits. This study applies the rule of accommodation from behavioral financial aspects and gives a case of an adaptable, easy ecological change that advances adherence to a good diet and declines waste. Summary of Journalist’s Article From the start the journalist has made an engaging tone. Starting with the fact that although new nutrition standards impress upon getting more fruit intake for the students yet students don’t like them...
