...PGD ACCOUNTING ECONOMIC EVALUATION OF INVESTMENT “A SYSTEM FOR BUILDING CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS IN THE CONCEPTUAL PHASE” BY ADENUGA OLUFEMI SOLOMON MATRIC NO: PG14/05/005 JUNE 2015 ECONOMIC EVALUATION OF INVESTMEST “A SYSTEM FOR BUILDING CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS IN THE CONCEPUTAL PHASE” ABSTRACT The conceptual phase of capital projects is of strategic importance – an economic evaluation at this early stage is critical to the owners’ decision-making with limited information. The current study developed a comprehensive but practical system that can be used in such an early phase for economic evaluation of capital building construction projects. The system integrates four analytical steps: (i) Project planning, (ii) Construction costs estimation, (iii) Projection of incomes and expenditures and; (iv) Economic evaluation. Due to the integration, the system effectively manages the information flow from the planning to the evaluation, in which any changes from the initial plan are fully accounted for multiple alternates. In the system, users predict construction cost using a combined estimating method with historical project data and assembly costs. The system performs the tabulation of all incomes and expenditures based on the automated calculation as well as users’ inputs and then the economic evaluation based on project cash flow, which is generated using an automated scheduling method. System performance has been tested in terms of its accuracy and efficiency...

...Riordan Manufacturing Proposal University Of Phoenix CIS/319 Cornell Perry September 26, 2005 Introduction There are many compelling reasons to pursue deployment of an IT infrastructure in the business world today. Most enterprises already have a IT infrastructure in place, and are now taking the lessons they've learned from previous efforts to remedy problematic areas like data quality and infrastructure standardization. At the same time, many enterprises are also moving toward the next steps in the evolution of IT infrastructure and are adopting new technologies and approaches such as data management and computerized controls. Riordan Manufacturing would benefit tremendously by the implementation of an IT infrastructure. Currently, Riordan Manufacturing is suffering from corporate inefficiency that is detrimental to revenue and long term financial goals. An IT infrastructure would solve many of these problems. Cost savings would be realized through the reduction of duplicated efforts and service offerings across the corporation, lower maintenance support because of consistent hardware and software applications, and structured communication channels between departments and a newly formed corporate IT department (CIT). A CIO will provide technical leadership for IT related issues and Cost Centers will be created at each installation to adhere to strict purchasing guidelines. In addition, the CIO will establish Riordan Manufacturing’s online presence with...

...many cases, automated methods for both data collection and storage. For instance, many stores tag their items with a product-specific bar code, which is scanned in when the corresponding item is bought. This automatically creates a gigantic repository of information on products and product combinations sold. Similar databases are also created by automated book-keeping, digital communication tools or by remote sensing satellites, and aided by the availability of affordable and effective storage mechanisms – magnetic tapes, data warehouses and so on. This has created a situation of plentiful data and the potential for new and deeper understanding of complex phenomena. The very size of these databases however means that any signal or pattern may be overshadowed by “noise”. New methodology for the careful analysis of such datasets is therefore called for. Consider for instance the database created by the scanning of product bar codes at sales checkouts. Originally...
