...Training and Pre-Planning Is Key Jason Rogers COMM/215 28 May 2012 Cecelia Weber Training and Pre-Planning Is Key Introduction In my case study, Carl Robbins, a campus recruiter for ABC, Inc., has been made aware of multiple issues a couple weeks before the new hire orientation that he scheduled. Given that the ABC campus recruiter, Carl Robbins, had six months of experience and was developing difficulties with the pre-planning for his new hire orientation, I conclude that the company ABC needs to provide better training to personnel, improve conference room reservation procedures, and provide a checklist to recruiters for new hire packets. Background In early April, Carl Robins successfully recruited 15 new hires to work for Monica Carrols. He has only been working for ABC, Inc. for six months, and this was his first recruitment mission. He scheduled a new hire orientation that would take place on June 15 because he wanted the new hires to start working by July. On May 15, Monica contacted him in reference to the training schedule, orientation manuals, and other issues that involved the recruits he hired in April. Carl reassured Monica that everything would be done on time in accordance with the planned schedule. After Memorial Day, Carl decided to look over the new trainee files to make sure all the paperwork was completed before orientation. He then realized that a couple of the recruits did not have their applications completed and their transcripts were not on...

...In “The Best Kept Secret on Campus” written by Rosie Anaya, she discusses how the presence of depression, anxiety, and acute bipolar disorder affects some college students. Rosie includes statistics in this piece of writing which ultimately establishes the scope of the problem. With these statistics it is apparent that a college student will most likely experience a severe psychological problem at least once. Rosie explains how there are many college students who are experiencing these severe psychological problems, but how they fail to seek help when needed. It is apparent that the students who undergo these challenges do not ask for help when they need it because mental illness is perceived as a shameful or embarrassing thing. Meaning...

...to a car that is on or off campus at night can be a little spooky. There will always be that “what if” voice unraveling scenarios in your head. Since classes have resumed for the school year of 2014, Middle Tennessee State University has had six sexual assault cases reported; that is more than its entirety last year. We have been in session for eight weeks; that is almost one sexual assault per week. Granted, that could be a result of the campaigns MTSU has been advertising. The posters motivate victims to speak up about an assault. Sexual assault is the most unreported crime at MTSU, according to campus police. Nevertheless, our campaign preventions should not be about the victim speaking up— there should be no victims; our preventions should be geared towards the offender. This is one of the biggest issues at MTSU. A student should feel safe at the university he/she will spend the next four years of their promising life at. A sexual assault report was filed the first day of school. As freshman, we don’t even know our way around campus yet, where all the closer parking spots are yet, and there is already a report filed? That is demoralizing. Middle Tennessee State University has the qualities to be one of the top universities in Tennessee. However, that will never happen if the crime rate, not only in sexual assaults, but in general does not go down. First impressions are everything. I remember the first time I visited this campus. My mom was talking to my dad...

...Knoxville is a very sought after University to join. Being one of the top schools at its level, it has drawn a tremendous amount of attention and desire for students to attend. With in-state tuition being around $8,300 annually, they tend to draw in a heaping amount of students and scholars from all over the state. Tennessee Journalist reports an interview of UT student Liz Whitley, “The University sells more parking passes than there are spots available, so during busy times like lunch, it’s almost impossible to find a place to park your car.” Also according to another college student, “There were either too many permits given out, or people illegally parked there all the time,” as written by Aubrey Roff. The biggest issue as far as parking goes is that colleges issue too many permits to students. In reference to UT school website, the ratio of parking permits issued to actual parking spaces available is an almost 2 to 1 ratio; 1.85 to 1 to be precise. Based on the article, “Parking and Transit Services Rates” from the UT parking and transit services, prices can range anywhere from $182 to $285 for commuters and non-commuters; as far as staff goes, their permit rates run upwards of $360 to even soaring heights of $1,146. Aside from the costly tuition of going to a University such as one with high rankings of UT, putting forward the money for parking permits is almost absurd when students are not even guaranteed a spot. ...Stillwell 3/10/15 Campus Sexual Assault Sexual assault became huge problem across the nation. It is something that causes more than people just being uncomfortable even walking down the street. It can cause a life time of problems for the victims and their families. The victims and all involved are affected in a major way. Sadly this problem is hard to prevent campuses across America. We see evidence of sexual assault almost everywhere, the work place, schools, and even just walking down the street. It is a problem that is all too relevant in the world we live in and our everyday lives. It also became a problem in our community. According to the report of Lincoln Journal Star new, "four sexual assaults on campus were reported to UNL police, up from three each in the previous two years and six aggravated assaults were reported last year as well, an increase of four from the previous year (Chris).”According to Suggested Policies and Procedures, "the consequences of sexual assault are potentially very serious. An immediate concern is physical injury, which may be extensive enough to require medical treatment or hospitalization .11 pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), including HIV, are additional concerns .12 emotional damage may be serious and equally requiring of treatment. Sexual assault may affect students' academic achievement as well as their capacity to contribute to the campus community." We should have effective solutions to prevent this problem. First of...

...their new environments, just as I had had during my first years at McMaster University in Canada. There is a huge change in responsibility when a student lives on his or her own for the first time. From my experience, the pressure of being one’s own care taker can be overwhelming and can cause feelings of homesickness, helplessness and displacement that can lead to depression. These feelings are symptoms of culture shock; a common issue that many international students face when arriving to a new country. Living all my life in Abu Dhabi in a smaller sized society, with a more family oriented view, then moving to a larger and more modern western society, with more focus on the individual, I definitely felt that culture shock was an issue I was going to have to deal with. However, I did not feel the culture shock until I left the dormitory I had moved into and actually had to fend for myself. The lessons I learnt while dealing with these feelings helped form my personality and made me grow as an individual. At first, moving into the dormitory on campus seemed like a lot of fun and I didn’t fully grasp the seriousness of what lies ahead. One of the reasons that universities have dormitories is to gradually ease students into life away from their parents. This process slowly introduces students to more responsibility before they can truly be independent. It only took a couple of weeks for me to feel homesick. However, I found smartphone and internet technologies, such as Skype and...

...decision making can be a problem ,but that does not mean that they are the same thing ." Also, it helps people to improve on their decision making skills."The techniques in this section help you to make the best decisions possible with the information you have available." Each step of this model is to ensure you make the best decision possible for any issue. The above steps are useful in solving many types of problems. Success is the main goal you expect to see as your resolution of the problem. During the summer of 2007, I was in the process of moving out my apartment. My problem was I needed a place to stay for my senior year in college. I had received a nice refund on my financial aid but not enough to get my own apartment. My options were to stay with a family member or look for some people that needed a roommate for their apartment. Another option would to be to get a part-time job to be able to get my own apartment. The only problem is I have a difficult time trying to work and go to school at the same time. While I was making my final decision, I decided to stay at best friend's house for the summer. I talk to all my friends that stay nearby the campus. They had no vacancies and the college's fall semester was about to begin real soon. I had another option to be a residential adviser in the dorms at my campus. My housing would be free and I would only be responsible for all the activities that occur in my building. My only issue with that there would...

...As a computer science student, I understand the importance of being able to think logically. Also, I hope to achieve proper communication skills and develop an independent sense of judgment and people skills. Working as a resident assistant will help me improve my problem solving skills as it involves constantly taking queries from other students, analyzing the best possible solution and communicating this to respective officials. Something valuable that I hope to achieve through being Resident Assistant is the opportunity to meet with new students from different backgrounds and hearing their stories. With the knowledge and lessons I learn from this, I hope to build new relationships with new and amazing students, and also hope to improve the...

...Chapter 10. Information and Decision Support System The first stage in the problem solving process is the intelligence. During this stage you identify and define potential problems or opportunities. You also investigate resource and environmental constraints. Well the problem that I identified and that is associated with my university is student’s being late to class. I believe this is not only a problem in my University rather in the entire world and probably has been historically an issue. What it does is distract other student’s the professor and everybody involved in the studying process .Almost every day there are at least few student that decide to appear a little bit late or sometimes even walk in the middle of the class. The next stage in problem-solving process is the design stage. Basically In the design stage you develop alternative solutions to the problem and evaluate their feasibility. I believe there are already solutions for this as for example the sign in sheet which I believe it’s not very effective. Usually student’s that are late or not present in the class ask their friends or someone else to sign them in, and just by being late the get still a chance to sign in , in the end of the class. The solution I believe would be very effective is installations of scanners for ID cards. So basically every student would need to swipe their card in the entrance of the class-room and a detailed record would be taken for every student for every class. All of this would...

...Comparison of Competencies ADN vs. BSN xxx xxx Grand Canyon University NRS 430V January 18, 2012 Comparison of Competencies ADN vs. BSN What is the difference between a Registered Nurse with an ADN (Associates Degree) and one with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)? The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and many others believe that education has a significant impact on the knowledge and competencies of a nurse (American Association of Colleges of Nursing [AACN], 2011). Studies suggest that graduates of Baccalaureate degree programs have a better understanding of the conceptual and theoretic approach to nursing care in specific nursing situations. There is also a significant relationship between the level of basic nursing education and degree and proficiency of leadership demonstrated. Moreover, there is a significant relationship between educational preparation and degree and proficiency to which the nurse makes nursing diagnosis, executes and implements the nursing process, and evaluates the effects of nursing intervention (Giger & Davidhizar, 1990). Nursing has changed greatly over the years, to keep up with the demands of an evolving healthcare system and changing patient needs, nurses must achieve higher levels of education. An ever increasing body of research reinforces this claim and shows a connection between baccalaureate education and lower mortality rates (“Creating a more qualified nursing workforce“, 2011). According to the 2008...

...Importance of the Planning Stage Pamela Grey ORG 300-4: Applying Leadership Principles Colorado State University Global Campus Steven Kahla PhD. September 7, 2013 Importance of the Planning Stage Planning is a crucial step to ensuring a successful project. In the planning stage, goals for the project are set. Measurable steps towards the goal are defined. Resources are determined and allocated. How are all these steps accomplished? By asking questions and discovering the answers to those questions. The most important part of any planning stage, or successful project even, is to ask as many questions as can be thought of to uncover all potential needs, problems, and hiccups. Brainstorming The first step to planning is brainstorming. “Brainstorming is a process for developing creative solutions to problems” (Clark, 2010). This is the time to generate as many ideas as possible. No matter how unusual an idea sounds don’t throw the concept away because it may blend with another idea and become the most effective solution. So what are some of the key questions that should be answered while brainstorming? What is the end goal of the project? Will this improve the organization in some way? These questions will help to identify if this is a project that the organization should pursue. “What are all the ingredients necessary for its successful execution? What are all the possible forces or events that could hinder or destroy it” (Army Handbook, 1973)? These two questions will...
