Welcome to the Practicum/Capstone Experience

First of all, take a deep breathe. Reflect on all you have achieved so far! You are now ready to put what you have learned into practice and then write a long paper that synthesizes what you have learned into a research report. To save time and energy, you might want to create a practicum experience that informs your capstone and gather data at the practicum (under the guidance of Dr. Beaman and your preceptor) that you can report and discuss in your capstone. Ask yourself what your passion is and create a practicum/capstone about that topic.
NURSING EDUCATION PRACTICUM
You can use an academic setting, online college, public health facility, or even a nursing staff development venue. However you MUST have an MSN prepared nurse to precept you.
NOTE: You cannot gather data about people without an Institutional Review Board approval, but you CAN gather data about YOUR intervention (lesson, PowerPoint, article, intervention, poster, YouTube, etc.) and use it.
Do not begin your practicum until you have submitted ALL the paperwork required in the Preceptor Guide to Dr. Beaman and it has been approved.

Develop three to five objectives for yourself that are measurable by deliverables in conjunction with your preceptor and submit to Dr. Beaman. For example:
Student will develop a PowerPoint for presentation to student nurses.
Student will create a survey to measure satisfaction with lesson by participants.
Student will attend three faculty meetings as evidenced by reflective essay about each faculty meeting.
Student will write article for publication in nursing journal and submit to ten peers for review.
Student will present a wellness topic to patients.
Student will create a YouTube presentation and solicit comments from viewers.
Student will create and deliver training module to staff nurses.
