...Have you ever seen a monkey in a zoo before that knows how to speak in sign language? Personally, I have not seen one other than me, but the difference is I don’t live in a zoo. I know how to speak using the sign language letters and can be fairly strange sometimes. Some people say they can blame it on my brain activity and others say it’s because I have the higher functioning Autism known as Asperger’s and epilepsy. Luckily for me the seizure disorder in which I tend to get grand mall seizures has been controlled through prescribed medication for one year and four months. Also, I like to say dickhead. Though it has nothing to relate to my monkey like disabilities, you are probably wondering why. The reason I love the word dickhead is because when me and my sister were little, we would always try to imagine a dick on a head and wonder if anyone had a dick on their head. If you think that’s my favorite curse word, then you are wrong because that is my favorite word. Just remember I am a monkey so it may seem strange to you....

For a long time the taxonomy of the Ka'apor Capuchin monkey was (and sometimes still is) strongly argued (Alfaro, Silva & Rylands, 2012). When it was first discovered by Ferrari and Queiroz in 1992 some believed that Cebus kaapori should be classed as a sub species of Cebus olivaceous. However nowadays it is considered by many to be its own individual species. It is also the only species of capuchin with no sub species (Boubli, Rylands, Farias, Alfaro & Alfaro, 2012).The Ka’apor capuchin is a member of the Cebidae family, one of five families that fall under the Platyrrhini Parvorder, classing this species as one of the New World Monkeys. Morphology: Compared to most other primate species, the Ka’apor capuchin is relatively small, growing no larger than roughly 60cm in height and 45cm in length. The species has relatively long limbs compared to its trunk size allowing efficient quadrupedal movement through the tree canopy which is a large benefit due to the species being predominately arboreal, they have also been noted to be bipedal however this is quite a rare occurrence. ...A study found that brown capuchin monkeys would make prosocial choices (choosing a representational token that would result in equal benefits for both monkeys, over the token that would only reward the chooser) at the same frequency when they interacted with monkeys in their familiar in-group and unfamiliar outgroup (Suchak & B.M. de Waal, 2012). Cooperators were more likely to continue cooperating even if they had the chance to defect and receive a larger reward. Although the difference was not significant, cooperators interacting with an in-group partner who recently defected would continue to cooperate slightly more than cooperators interacting with an out-group defector. The authors of the paper mention that repeated, mimicked behaviors of cooperative choices made by both partners increases likelihood of future prosocial behavior and develops a bond. This behavior in the monkeys can be beneficial in the wild. When it comes to the survival of the community as a whole, it is better for the individual to continue to cooperate rather than take the whole reward for themselves. Primates are very social animals and rely on a close nit community for many reasons like a communal care for young. Therefore, cooperation is common in capuchin monkeys since they are willing to help others obtain resources and are also more likely to share with individuals who help them.
