...Something that I know a lot about is skateboarding. I have been skateboarding since I was 9 years old. I know how they are made and how you can make them yourself. I also know the history of them as in where they were built and where the first one was ever made. I will explaining what they are and different kinds of brands that sctboaring has created. The first ever skateboard was made in 1956. The birthplace of the very first one is unknown but they were sold first in California. The reason why they were so popular was because surfing became very big in the 1950’s and California was filled with them. It was very hard to get around because there were so many of them and most had cars and nobody was getting anywhere very fast. At first people thought they were crazy riding on a board with wheels but after a couple of years everybody wanted one. A couple years pass and a new kind of shoe was made for skateboards and they were called Van’s. These shoes are still popular in 2018 but back then everybody had a pair of Van’s They were almost like they would be attracted to you everywhere you went. After a while skateboards had changed and there where different kinds of skateboards and...

...Petersen 1 ! Zachary Petersen Professor Edward Park FFYS 1000-27 12 October 2015 Has Globalization Rode Too Far Into the Surf Industry? The modern surfboard building industry was started in a backyard by a couple of friends, trying create a foam based surfboard to make something they could have more fun on in the ocean. They created an amazing product, proceeded to make boards for their friends, and later teach their friends to make surfboards. A culture was solidified and the techniques were handed down verbatim to the new board builders. The overwhelming sense of tradition and respect for the roots of the craft is strongly woven into the every individual in todays industry (prior to the start of Asian manufacturing of surfboard “pop-outs”). For these reasons amongst others, the board building industry is different than most other industries and does not follow normal patterns of globalization. The advancements in technology over the years, opportunities for cheaper labor and alternate materials have not changed the way the industry operates. Even with the addition of technology and manufacturing procedures, the fundamentals of how a board is made has not changed since it was first made in the late 50s. The industry is very exclusive, but not closed. There has been no opposition to globalization; globalization has kept the industry progressing forward. Most master shapers (people who sculpt the surfboard) and glassers (people who do the fiberglass sealing)...

...courage and will to change and to be open for new possibilities and opportunities, as Sarah told Bethany that it could move people to do great things and can also provide a new perspective. It could also be considered as a life changer, as it can greatly influence individuals that have gone through several trials and problems. It can also empower us to be prudent; being persistent enough to do good things with faith in God towards other people, especially our loved ones. If compassion would only exist in everyone, there will be no more wars, no more hatred and pain in our hearts and our children will play, with freedom and happiness in their hearts. Motivation: Importance in Perseverance against Adversity Bethany’s passion was always surfing: from being little kids, when her mother was convinced that she and her best friend Alana were mermaids, up to...

...!!!What Is A Wave Period? Have you ever tried surfing? In order to surf, we need waves. However, there are things that a surfer needs to consider when looking at waves. One of the things that surfers look at is the size of the wave. For more experienced surfers, they will most likely want to surf on waves with a high amplitude. Also, it won’t be any fun if a wave appears and disappears quickly. Surfers will want to ride waves that last long, or waves with a long cycle, and so they look at the wave period. The __wave period__ tells us how long it takes for a wave to complete its cycle, or we can say that it is the time it takes for two wave peaks to occur. The conventional symbol for wave period is ‘’T’’, and its standard unit is in ‘’seconds’’....

...in the 80´: when it comes to garments, all the major technical brand began to be available not only to the specialists, but also to the rest of the consumer population This created a big opportunity for all the mayor competitors alongside with Billabong, but also put pressure on them, since they were force to find a balance between two different direction, one leading to the basic market of surfers and the other to the secondary market of the emulator. This is a tricky combination, because, while the dedicate surfer is more interested in the utility of the garment, for the follower is more important to make a fashion statement. There is no doubt about the fact the consumer capitalism had an huge impact for the growing popularity of surfing garments and all the commodities related to it: equipment and clothing are not now only available in specialized store, they can now be found in K-mart, for example. In our opinion this has been an...

...Soul Surfer In the 1960s, the term “soul surfer” was used to describe a surfer who surfed for the pure pleasure of surfing. Though they may enter competitions, a soul surfer is more so motivated by a spiritual, compassionate, peaceful way of life. The movie, Soul Surfer is a film adaptation based on the 2004 autobiography Soul Surfer: A True Story of Faith, Family, and Fighting to Get Back on Board by American professional surfer, Bethany Hamilton. The main characters at the heart of the story are Bethany Hamilton who lives in Kauai, Hawaii with her parents Tom and Cheri, and two brothers, Noah and Timmy, who all happen to be surfers as well. But Bethany, along with her best friend, Alana Blanchard has a passion for the sport and work to become competitive professional surfers. Another character that plays a major role in Bethany’s life is her youth ministry leader, Sarah Hill. In the film, Bethany narrates and retells her story of how as young teenage girl, she lived and breathed surfing and being in the water and her dreams and goals of becoming a professional surfer. It’s an account of her life on how after losing her arm in a shark attack she had to adjust to life as a handicap and had to decide whether it was going to define her as handicap. Throughout the film, Bethany tries to find a way to recover her “soul” by looking to her Christian faiths and beliefs that somehow she felt were being tested. Media attention was brought to the family resulting of the shark attack...

These major changes, once started, took 15 month period of 6-12 week cycles. Before every implementing this project The city-government and its various agencies were in a blinded state of turmoil. They were have so many issues with technological communication that the only option was change! So change they made by implementing a single centralized IT group whose sole purpose was to bring the city-government out of the ashes. This of course meant saying farewell to the existing 14 management systems, saving costs in doing so anyway. The new system, the enterprise content management (ECM) system had to fill 3 major roles records, security, and finally communication. ...Gifts By Logan Tueller 1995 I have no memory of this gift. The day I was born, my mother gave me the best gift I still can’t begin to comprehend. She brought me into this world and for that reason, this is the best gift of my life. 1998 This is one of the earliest memories I remember. The day I received my best friend for years to come. My dear stuff animal lamb, which I consequently named Lamby. This present is among the most treasured I can remember and I still have that soft as tissue paper lamb in my room. 1999 Christmas is the best time for kids to receive the dream gift they have wanted all year. This year is when I got all my toy-like desires met. My dad and older sister always liked to play with my new things so I unwrapped everything and left all the toys in the box for five weeks and looked upon them with excitement and yet I had no desire to play with them. 2000 First remembered trip to Hawaii that I ever took. This trip I received my first skateboard which I had developed a newfound interest in since watching my cousins skateboard on their assorted ramps. I also learned how to surf on this trip which made me who I am today. 2002 At seven years old, nothing interests boys more than war and guns. This is the Christmas when I was given a Red Rider pellet gun and a tool belt so my life from then on consisted of breaking things and shooting things. 2005 I have been fishing before this time but my father and I packed up early and went to...

...FireWire Surfboards Firewire Surfboards was created in the year 2005 by a group of colleges who happen to be friends. They all wanted to make a new kind of surfboards for the average person that wanted to go out and enjoy the waves. Firewire makes the claim that its surfboards are stronger, lighter and more flexible than any of its based competition’s surfboards. In order to keep up with the competition Firewire decided to start making custom surfboards instead of just their usual or original sizes. Along with making custom surfboards Firewire is doing other things in order to stay ahead of their competition. Channel Islands surfboards seems to be the major competitor of Firewire surfboards. However, it's surfboards aren't price efficient from what I’ve read, and doesn’t seem to come close to offering the flexibility and maneuverability that Firewires does. Firewire competitors mostly uses time dated technology and production that is thought to be harmful to the environment. Most “surfers prefer their gear old school,” that’s from what I’ve gathered, and the companies that have been established for decades had the upper hand on supplying this demand of the surf market. It also didn’t help that many of the surfboard manufactures had signed professional surfers and thousands of loyal customers that felt the technology “represented a real threat to the entrenched surfboard” companies that they had grown accustomed to. Firewire’s entrepreneurial team should have...

...Surfing on the California Coast Surfing traveled from Hawaii and arrived at the stretching coast of California over a hundred years ago. Since then, almost all characteristics of the sport including the style, the gears, the wave, the surfers, and even the industry have changed radically. The sport which was once not even known to more than a handful of people has traveled across the globe. Even though there are still several isolated and undiscovered, hundreds of surf spots are frequented by different types of surfers every day. There are numerous surf spots from northern to southern California, however, here is the list of our top five: Rincon, Santa Barbara Situated on the border of the Ventura and Santa Barbara County line, Rincon is divided into 3 breaks - Rivermouth, Indicators, and the Cove....

...Beachbeat Surfboards is a surfboard manufacturer and retailer located in the United Kingdom. They specialize in high quality customizable surfboards. Within its 26 years of service Beachbeat has produced and sold thousands of surfboards throughout the world, becoming one of Europe’s premier board producing factories. Originally started by a board shaper named Chops Lascelles, Beachbeat has become a major player in the surfboard industry. His mission was to bring the highest possible quality surfboards to surfers around the world. This could be achieved through his desire to make many types of quality boards so that people could ride better. He wanted to create boards that “follow function, not fashion”. The company has grown from one man to nine people working many hours to produce top quality surfboards. The production process runs through 8 stages with each person specializing in an area to maximize efficiency and quality. The assembly line process can produce a custom board in around a week. With shipping times added in a board can go from being a customer design to breaking waves in 3 weeks. This time length allows the company to maintain its high levels of quality and precision work, without forcing the customer to wait long amounts of time to ride their new board. The first step in any board shops production is shaping. The board is cut into the general “surfboard” shape and then sanded and cut down to its final shape. The shape can take on many different forms...

...What is the wave of future surfboard? This is a question that has been asked by surfboarding aficionados since the 1960’s. According to the Firewire Surfboards case study, many surfers prefer their “gear” old school or custom-shaped to order. At the San Diego based, Firewire Surfboards, developer and CEO, Mark Price, has challenged those very ideals with the creation of his far lighter, stronger, and more flexible foam to make their boards. The issue lies with having the surfing community accepts the fact that change must happen to launch the sport to the next level. Firewire Surfboards was launched in 2005 by Mark Price to create a surfboard that according to him, “Will create wave-riding magic”. Mark Price, a former surfing pro, understands that there is competition that can hinder the success of his business. The biggest hurdle for Firewire is the past. Many surfers prefer to have their equipment custom-shaped to order. To try to tap into this market, Firewire is introducing its first custom board line and so that their product can reach the “hard-core” surfers. Firewire Boards is prepared to sell the new line for a bit more than $600.00. On the other hand, Channel Islands (competitor), sell’s their off-the-rack boards for $ 650.00. In the end, many of the local shops are trying to buy boards from Firewire and put their mane on the product. Firewire is also looking to tap into the developing of boards for beginners that can help them compete with companies like Surftech...
