Career Application Essay

When I began my undergraduate career, I was majoring in culinary arts. However, as I found similarities between my culinary classes and chemistry, I realized that it wasn’t the creativity and the flavor of culinary arts that sparked my interest, rather, it was the reactions that take place when mixing ingredients and how food is processed in the human body. I quickly diverted my attention away from the culinary arts and into a different realm. The knowledge I was seeking could be found in chemistry and biology classes and I began working toward a career in pharmacy. The more I learned about the connections between food and medicine, the more my fascination with the human body grew. My enthusiasm for chemistry grew further when I began taking higher-level science courses and working in the field. My academic and professional experiences over the past few years have only strengthened my desire to become a pharmacist.

During my time at Rxtra, I was in charge of tasks ranging from producing hormone replacement therapy pellets to sterilizing, packaging, and assuring the quality of each batch number. Being meticulous in my work was essential to ensuring that the proper medication was produced and followed by the proper documentation. Any detail overlooked may be detrimental to a patient’s health and to the success of the pharmacy itself. I was able to observe the pharmacist hard at work every day and realized that pharmacy is my calling. I owe my success in my undergraduate courses and the workplace to my detail-oriented personality. Being meticulous in my studies has and will continue to help me make connections between different, yet similar subjects in my graduate courses. In order to see the big picture, I must be able to recognize and organize all the microscopic

...What is Personal Statement Overview of the Personal Statement Personal statements are sometimes also called "application essays" or "statements of purpose." Whatever they are called, they are essentially essays which are written in response to a question or questions on a graduate or professional school application form which asks for some sort of sustained response. Some applications ask more specific questions than others. There is no set formula to follow in shaping your response, only choices for you to make, such as whether you should write an essay that is more autobiographically focused or one that is more professionally focused. From application to application, requested personal statements also vary widely in length, ranging from a couple of paragraphs to a series of essays of a page or so each. Personal statements are most important when you are applying to an extremely competitive program, where all the applicants have high test scores and GPA's, and when you are a marginal candidate and need the essay to compensate for low test scores or a low GPA. :: Context Considerations How are personal statements read, and by whom? It's most likely that your personal statement will be read by professors who serve on an admissions committee in the department to which you are applying. It is important in developing your personal statement to carefully consider this audience. What are the areas of specialty of this department, and what might it be looking for in a graduate...

Grad Admissions

...graduate admissions essay. Writing a statement that tells a graduate admissions committee all about you and can potentially make or break your application is stressful. Take a different perspective, however, and you will find that your admissions essay is what ensures that you match up with a graduate program that will offer you the training you need for the career you desire. Let's take a closer look at the graduate admissions essay. What is its Purpose? Your graduate school application provides the admissions committee with a great deal of information about you that cannot be found elsewhere in your graduate application. The other parts of your graduate school application tell the admissions committee about your grades (i.e., transcript), your academic promise (i.e., GRE scores), and what your professors think of you (i.e., recommendation letters). Despite all of this information, the admissions committee does not learn much about you as an individual. What are your goals? Why are you applying to graduate school? With so many applicants and so few slots it's critical that graduate admissions committees learn as much as possible about applicants so as to ensure that they choose students who best fit their program and are most likely to succeed and complete a graduate degree. Your admissions essay explains who you are, your goals, and the ways in which you match the graduate program to which you are applying. What Do I Write About? Graduate applications often ask that applicants...

...Tips for Scholarship Applications and Personal Essays* Getting Started Before you start filling out your scholarship applications, you need to spend some time thinking about how to write a scholarship essay that will get the results that you want. For many students, the hardest part of writing a scholarship essay is getting comfortable with highlighting your accomplishments. Students often see this as bragging about themselves. But this is exactly what you need to do in order to convince the judges that you should receive the scholarship instead of the other applicants, you have to tell the judges what makes you a better candidate. Therefore, one of the most important things you have to do when getting ready to write your college scholarship essays is to spend some time reflecting on just how wonderful you really are. When you write down all of the great things you have accomplished, it will be much easier for you to create an essay that conveys your strong points to the judges. Tips for getting ready to write a strong essay: 1. Make a list of all your accomplishments. 2. Develop a list of your extracurricular activities. 3. Write down the three accomplishments of which you are the most proud. 4. Think of a problem that you have faced and write down how you were able to overcome it. 5. Put in writing your career goals, or your reason for wanting to attend college. 6. Pretend that you had to write a letter of recommendation for yourself. NYU Stern Case Study

...16 things every international student should know about NYU Stern The New York University Stern School of Business was founded in 1900 by Charles Waldo Haskins, co-founder of Deloitte’s predecessor Haskins and Sells and a nephew of Ralph Waldo Emerson. It was then known as the School for Commerce, Finance, and Accounting, and prepared students for careers in the financial markets of New York City. In 1988, following a $30 million gift from alumnus Leonard N. Stern (MBA 1959), the school improved its facilities, and was renamed the Leonard N. Stern School of Business. Ten years later, in 1998, a $10 million gift from Henry Kaufman (PhD 1958) supported a major upgrade of Stern’s facilities. In 1999 came a similar gift from Kenneth Langone (MBA 1960). In 2000, Stern celebrated its centenary with the launch of a $100 million Centennial Campaign, which helped the school double its endowment, enhance the number of named professorships, and increase financial aid to students. Here are more facts about the school, with a focus on its full-time MBA program. Location: NYU Stern is located in the center of Greenwich Village, near Washington Square Park...

Tips on Application to B-School

...is full of those kind of people (who have no idea what they want to do yet), but all of them managed to tell a compelling story on their applications about how business school was the right place for them and how it would help them in their careers. Try to display initiative and become a leader in an area that interests you. Try to become the head of a club, the captain of a sports team, the editor of a magazine, or the director of a movie. B-schools will look for that kind of engagement and "management" experience. They want to know that you are good at interacting with people, that you have some "leadership" skills, and that you are invested enough in what you do to want to take ownership of it. Now, about work experience. It used to be the case that very few students came straight from undergrad programs into Business School. Although schools now seem to be admitting more and more students straight out of college, it is still rare and you may find yourself struggling with many parts of the application. Each application asks specific essay questions about "leadership" and personal experience, and the more varied and interesting your responses, the better your essays. Since most undergrad programs are similar, it will therefore be harder for you, as an undergrad, to put the same amount of color and diversity into your application as someone who has been...
