Write essential question on the board. 2. Review the SMART goal setting acronym; ask students what each of the letters in the acronym represent. Review the S.M.A.R.T. principle to goal setting. (See SMART Goals Handout). Have students write examples of goals that follow the SMART goal principle. (See the blank area on the SMART Goals Handout, titled, “Your Example________________”). 3. Read through the “Tips to setting Effective Goals” on the SMART Goals Handout. Lesson 2 – 15 minutes 4. I was able to mentally see what sorts of activities really grab my interest and areas I might find exciting in a career. I was able to learn how my interests might help me explore different careers to make a better career decision. While interest play a key role in identifying occupations other traits such as abilities, skills, values, personality, and previous experience also influence what I find appealing. The Job Market Research tool gave me information about pay scales, degrees, and skills needed to become successful with my career. I found it very useful with many insights into my future career and the opportunities I am best suited for in the near future. My academic program is going to help me achieve my career goals because by me furthering my education will only help me get further in my career.
