Carnegie and Rockefeller are not heroes, nor do they deserve to be considered as one. A hero is someone who sacrifices his own well being in order to bring good to someone else. As businessmen, Carnegie and Rockefeller were selfish men, whose next move solely depended on what maximized their profit. They did not care who they destroyed or exploited. Although Carnegie and Rockefeller were able to supply the American public with goods and services, they did so by underpaying their workers and eliminating their competitors.
