One would think that with the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment fast approaching, that equitable women’s rights would already be embedded in the United States’ society. It is not the case, because even in the present day women are still fighting for their rights. The wage gap, political representation reproductive rights, sexual harassment, and many more issues stand in the way of equal rights. As seen above, the cartoon shows a young man asking a woman for a dollar, but only receives 77 cents from her and is told “That’s a woman’s dollar.” Carolita Johnson is the cartoonist behind this image, and although she is not protesting or petitioning, she is in fact advocating for women’s rights.
