...This book is such a inspiration to myself and to others that read this or are able to watch the movie. This book is a wake up call check for people who haven’t hit a reality check. This book is very inspiring and people should at least get an opportunity to watch the movie , if they don’t get a chance to read this novel. I honestly look up to the author of this novel novel and also Ben Carson's story. He had a lot of struggle while growing up in a broken household but from being pushed by his mother he has accomplished so much and has created a future and a great pathway for children to look up to him. Ben Carson's story was story of a city kid with poor grades and little motivation from anyone in his household or teacher at his school. Who at age 33 , became director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins University Hospital. His mother could barely read but still motivated him and his brothers to do better and make them believe that they could do anything they could and made them work harder. The boys didn’t realize that their mother had this problem but still listened to everything that she said because they knew that she only wanted the best for them. She changed the ways in their household so that she could make them realize that they could do what they wanted if they put their mind to it. She made them watch only two motivational and educational Tv shows that would help them motivate their thought process better. The brothers become hooked to a television quiz...

...Our Souls Perseverated On Freedom! A Report Highlighting the Desperate Acts of Blacks as they Perseverated on Freedom 1877-Civil War Rolanda E. Lively African American History, CRN 32427 Tues-Thurs Ms. Carmen Thompson August 4, 2011 African Americans perseverated on freedom! As we explore the lives of African-Americans and their experience in the place we now call the United States of America, we will see how black people perseverated on freedom and risked their lives for freedom during the following significant historical periods; Horrifying middle passage of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade, Religious Great Awakening 129, and lastly the Bloody Antebellum period. The past comes back to life, through first person quotes of courageous men and women who bared their souls. We all bare witness to voices of African American Hero’s each one never shifting their gaze from the golden gates of freedom. One of the first times that we see the preservation on freedom is during the middle passage of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade. The middle passage is steeped in unimaginable inhumane atrocities that no person or living thing should ever endure. For many, death and suicide became viable options for freedom in the face of captivity and the unknown. The planks of the slave ships hemorrhage with the blood, flesh, tears, and screams from Africans, who endure the torture bestowed on them by the slave ship crew. Africans of all ages were shackled and packed into the belly of...

...In order to fully understand the motives behind the organization Black Lives Matter one must know the history behind the struggles of African Americans in the United States. Throughout history African Americans have been pushed down, forced to do the work of the white man, and criticized for the color of their skin. Some of the most violent and unforgettable tales of American history date back to the 17th century. During this time period the slave trade was introduced to the state of Virginia (Carson 19). Millions of innocent African Americans were targeted by colonists who bought these slaves for their own profit (Carson 19). Years of torture, malnutrition, and neglect had passed by and there wasn’t much hope for a bright future for those...

Responsibility for Learning Outcomes speaks to how parents can support the language and literacy development of their children through direct parent-teaching activities such as reading aloud and engaging in linguistically rich conversations with their children. Teacher’s I nvolvement in the Academic of the Learner Mary Chamberlain (2002) said that that great teacher make a difference. They have passion that seeps through the skin- a love of learning. Great progress (‗a revolution‘) was made but a working hum and engagement is now not enough. What are now needed are quality learning conversations between teachers and learners. It is about extending rather than supervising, about linking to the child‘s world, about creating lines of desires, about not seeing the curriculum as a straightjacket. The curriculum it seems is more a direction. ―Appreciate that learning isn‘t always fun‘ – a good teacher knows when to push‘ – some learning may be uncomfortable‘ - really good teachers do this in skilled way.‘ The ‗x‘ factor is enthusiasms- ...

...This alignment destroys the state - that is, the natural wealth of localities and the local economies of household, neighborhood, and community - and so destroys democracy, of which the commonwealth is the foundation and practical means." (Wendell Berry, The Art of the Commonplace: The Agrarian Essays) At first glance when viewing this quote from Wendell Berry you may get the sense that he is anti-government and that the government will destroy the communities and laid desolate to the local economy. Once you read deeper into the quote you can now read his true significance. The root cause of humanity's alienation from nature, is our economy. Let's mull over for a second to think about that, what was the cause of our boom in our economy and the answer is the Industrial Revolution. The industrial revolution modified every aspect of this planet forever. This laid the way for understanding new technology and advanced machinery as well as laid groundwork for space...

...Fedoroff Agric & Food Secur (2015) 4:11 DOI 10.1186/s40066-015-0031-7 Open Access REVIEW Food in a future of 10 billion Nina V Fedoroff* Abstract Over the past two centuries, the human population has grown sevenfold and the experts anticipate the addition of 2–3 billion more during the twenty-first century. In the present overview, I take a historical glance at how humans supported such extraordinary population growth first through the invention of agriculture and more recently through the rapid deployment of scientific and technological advances in agriculture. I then identify future challenges posed by continued population growth and climate warming on a finite planet. I end by discussing both how we can meet such challenges and what stands in the way. Keywords: Population growth, Agriculture, Domestication, Genetic modification, Technology Background Today we have enough food to meet the world’s needs. Indeed, we have an extraordinary global food system that brings food from all over the planet to consumers who can afford to buy it. The food price spike of 2008 and the resurgence of high food prices in recent years have had little impact on the affluent citizens of the developed world who spend a small fraction of their income on food. By contrast, food prices have a profound impact on the world’s poorest people. Many of them spend half or more of their income on food. During the food price crisis of 2008, there were food riots in more than...

...COLLECTED VIEWS ON COMPLEXITY IN SYSTEMS JOSEPH M. SUSSMAN JR East Professor Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Engineering Systems Massachusetts Institute of Technology Cambridge, Massachusetts April 30, 2002 The term “complexity” is used in many different ways in the systems domain. The different uses of this term may depend upon the kind of system being characterized, or perhaps the disciplinary perspective being brought to bear. The purpose of this paper is to gather and organize different views of complexity, as espoused by different authors. The purpose of the paper is not to make judgments among various complexity definitions, but rather to draw together the richness of various intellectual perspectives about this concept, in order to understand better how complexity relates to the concept of engineering systems. I have either quoted directly or done my best to properly paraphrase these ideas, apologizing for when I have done so incorrectly or in a misleading fashion. I hope that this paper will be useful as we begin to think through the field of engineering systems. The paper concludes with some “short takes” -- pungent observations on complexity by various scholars -- and some overarching questions for subsequent discussion. ...65 Lessons Learned Over 12 Years Of Being In IM So this is the list I wish I had when I first got started...... 1. You have a lot more power than you think. And don't let anyone tell you differently. Power simply means "the ability to act" and all of you possess this. You just have to decide to use it. Power is like the muscle, the more action you take, the easier it gets. Science has already proven this to be true as the neural strands in your brain get thicker the more you do certain things. 2. When I first got started I wish someone would have held a gun to my head and advised me "look, you're going to focus on ONE thing at a time and master it before you move onto the next". Focus isn't just a word, it's the ability to keep your eye on what you want to accomplish so any obstacles you see will be ignored. Ok, "master" is probably too strong of a word. For example, when I first started using PPC advertising (Pay-Per-Click) many years ago I was losing money for over 2 straight months because I didn't know how to test my campaigns. So I invested in a solid PPC course by Perry Marshall and studied it. I started small and then reinvested my profits. 3. The first thing anyone should do is get clarity on what they really want. Making 10k per month is not a real goal. It's good to have, but if you don't become CRYSTAL clear on the WHY behind that goal, you're going to let obstacles kick your butt. Wanting money never got me anywhere. Now spending time with my loved ones and telling...

...Begin Reading Table of Contents Copyright Page For Charlotte—why we got together —D.H. + M.K. In a sec you’ll hear a thunk. At your front door, the one nobody uses. It’ll rattle the hinges a bit when it lands, because it’s so weighty and important, a little jangle along with the thunk, and Joan will look up from whatever she’s cooking. She will look down in her saucepan, worried that if she goes to see what it is it’ll boil over. I can see her frown in the reflection of the bubbly sauce or whatnot. But she’ll go, she’ll go and see. You won’t, Ed. You wouldn’t. You’re upstairs probably, sweaty and alone. You should be taking a shower, but you’re heartbroken on the bed, I hope, so it’s your sister, Joan, who will open the door even though the thunk’s for you. You won’t even know or hear what’s being dumped at your door. You won’t even know why it even happened. It’s a beautiful day, sunny and whatnot. The sort of day when you think everything will be all right, etc. Not the right day for this, not for us, who went out when it rains, from October 5 until November 12. But it’s December now, and the sky is bright, and it’s clear to me. I’m telling you why we broke up, Ed. I’m writing it in this letter, the whole truth of why it happened. And the truth is that I goddamn loved you so much. The thunk is the box, Ed. This is what I am leaving you. I found it down in the basement, just grabbed the box when all of our things were too much for my bed stand drawer. Plus I thought...
