• 1. Look over the scope statement (PE Figure 4-1). If you were an employee at Petrie’s Electronics, would you want to work on this project? Why or why not?
I think I would because it seems like a great project. It will benefit the company greatly and be a fun and easy project. There is a great team to back it up as well.
• 2. If you were part of the management team at Petrie’s Electronics, would you approve the project outlined in the scope statement in PE Figure 4-1? What changes, if any, need to be made to the document?
I would approve this. It has great information about the project and everyone backing it up. It shows what the purpose of the project is and it would benefit the company. There would be a good return on investment if the project works out.
• 3. Identify a preliminary set of tangible and intangible costs you think would occur for this project and the system it describes. What intangible benefits do you anticipate for the system?
The cost would include labor supplies and training. The labor would be to make the software. It would not be easy making a new program from nothing. Also the training the employees have to go though would increase the cost. They would need to get paid for the time they put into the training.
• 4. What do you consider to be the risks of the project as you currently understand it? Is this a low-, medium-, or high-risk project? Justify your answer. Assuming you were part of Jim’s team, would you have any particular risks?
One risk would be managements chance to stop the project. This is a low risk because it is approved and management would not want to lose the money put in so far. Another is failure of the customers appreciating the new program. This is a medium risk because it is not sure how they would resound to it. Most customers like reward programs but there is always a risk.
• 5. If you were assigned to help Jim with this project, how would you utilize the concept of incremental commitment in the design of the baseline project plan?

• • 6. If you were assigned to Jim’s team for this project, when in the project schedule (in what phase or after which activities are completed) do you think you could develop an economic analysis of the proposed system? What economic feasibility factors do you think would be relevant?

I think the right time for an economic analysis is after the production of the system. Once the system is in place, you could take a look and see how people are reacting to it and how much return customers you get back. This can show you the cost of making the software verses how many return.

• • 7. If you were assigned to Jim’s team for this project, what activities would you conduct in order to prepare the details for the baseline project plan? Explain the purpose of each activity and show a timeline or schedule for these activities.

I think this can be done in planning. There should always be a baseline when creating a project. This would be the goal that you are trying to reach in order to consider this successful. Without this, you would not know when this is improving verse a failure.

• • 8. In Question 4, you analyzed the risks associated with this project. Once deployed, what are the potential operational risks of the proposed system? How do you factor operational risks into a systems development plan?
One risk is that employees might not understand and will not enroll people correctly. One way to overcome this is to make the program user friendly. Make it easy so the employees could understand it.

Case Study 3-6

...Case Study 3-6 2/19/2012 After the company found out what Jones had been doing it is their responsibility to confront the employee. OHSA should then be called to come and inspect the break room as well as the coffee pot. After, their investigation they need to then let all employees know if they have come into contact with the coffee so if they had drank it they would know. In the case of O’Connor vs Ortega this would be the same outcome because the health and safety of the employees would overrule Jones saying his privacy was invaded. Employees could become ill because of the unsanitary break room. So I think that the courts would rule in favor of Mustapha and Pope setting up the recording device in the break room. I do not think they should be disciplined but I do think that they should be brought in and told that the next time they feel something is going on that is wrong that they should contact OSHA. That way if there is any wrong doing there would not be any loose ends and the could do an inspections and make everything official. Educating everyone on what OSHA is there for and the consequences that employees or employers suffer if they do break the OSHA act of 1970. Also to let employees and employers know the severity of their actions whether it be a practical joke or an act of revenge.\ After seeing Jones filing and seeing that even though he may not have a lot of bad marks knowing that he was turned down for a position would be just...

Case Study Chapter 6: #1-3

...Case Study Chapter 6 The two values I believe Schwartz created that are affecting Bain & Company, Home Depot and Best Buy include: conformity and universalism. In regards to universalism, Bain & Company and Best Buy began to lower the goals for employees’ sales, which resulted in their receiving bonuses still plausible. In addition, Best Buy tried to keep their employees engaged through the hard time by setting up online surveys for them to give the company general ideas for cost cutting. This showed that the companies understood the employees’ situations, appreciated them the best they could and tried to protect them from losing their jobs. The companies showed restraint and tried not to make the employees upset in their conformity values. For example, instead of firing employees, Steve Ellis began to hire people he thought would be successful for after the recession was over. This gave additional talented people an opportunity to work instead of going through lay offs during this time. During the recession, Ellis used his affective, cognitive and behavioral components of his attitude to show employees that he cared about how they felt, displayed his beliefs and ideas, and how he intended to move forward instead of back. Ellis made it possible to hire more people during the recession. He did not see this as a setback but an opportunity to bring talented workers on board with his company. Best Buy created online surveys for their employees to give their ideas for cutting...

Math Investigation

...Cubes Introduction I was given a brief to investigate the number of faces on a cube, which measured 20 small cubes by 20 small cubes by 20 small cubes (20 x 20 x 20). To do this, I had to imagine that there was a very large cube, which had had its outer surface painted red. When it was dry, the large cube was cut up into the smaller cubes, all 8000 of them. From there, I had to answer the question, 'How many of the small cubes will have no red faces, one red face, two red faces, and three faces? From this, I hope to find a formula to work out the number of different faces on a cube sized 'n x n x n'. Solving the Problem To solve this problem, I built different sized cubes: 2 x 2 x 2; 3 x 3 x 3; 4 x 4 x 4; 5 x 5 x 5; 6 x 6 x 6; 7 x 7 x 7; 8 x 8 x 8; 9 x 9 x 9, using multi-links. I started by building a cube sized '2 x 2 x 2'. As I looked at the cube, I noticed that all of the corners had three faces. I then went onto a '3 x 3 x 3' cube. As I observed the cube, I saw that the corners all had three faces, the edges had two, and the faces had one. I looked into this matter to see if this was true. As I went further into the investigation, I found this was true. This made it much easier for me to count the cubes, and be more systematic. Now I could carry on building the cubes, and be more confident about not missing any out. Whilst building the cubes, I also drew them and decided to color code the different faces (Red = Three faces, Green = Two faces...
