..."Using the case study provided at the end of the module, identify and explain the client's issues and devise a course of treatment for him, taking into account any ethical issues”. In this essay I will be exploring the issues raised in the case study provided which is about a 45 year old man named 'Mr. X'. I shall be explaining the issues Mr. X has expressed as I have understood them. To be in a position to help Mr X I need to identify issues that arise from the initial interview and produce a course of treatment that I feel would enable Mr X to meet his identified goals. I will be taking in consideration any ethical issues that need to be accounted for. Mr. X is a 45 year old man who has worked at the same Estate Agency for 18 years. He has presented to me the issue that he would like to apply for the manager’s position at his branch but his lack of confidence is holding him back. Mr. X has stood in for the current manager on many occasions so he knows that he is capable of doing the job but has reservations as he doesn’t want to cause any upset amongst the other staff or management if he is not successful. Further discussion with Mr. X revealed that one of the reasons he would like the job as manager is so that his mother would be proud of him and show him a little more respect. She is currently living in a home and he visits her regularly every Friday night although he says she tends to pick on him. Mr. X isn’t clear how or why his mother picks on him, just that she...

...1. What considerations must one take into account when dealing with qualitative research? There are many considerations when dealing with qualitative research. One of the considerations I must take into account is where the information is coming from for the qualitative research (Christensen, Johnson, & Turner, 2010). The information should make sense and contain reputable or honest data. Another consideration is the data should be validated (Christensen, Johnson, & Turner, 2010). This can be done through peer-reviews to see if the data makes sense and has been known in other cases. This can also be done through other resources that have stated and proven similar facts. A third consideration is that the data is non-numerical and exploratory (Christensen, Johnson, & Turner, 2010). Many times there is some confusion between qualitative and quantitative research as qualitative research focuses on narrative or pictures while I would prefer more numerical data. 2. What factors should go into determining the sample size used in a qualitative study? When conducting research, quality sampling may be characterized by the number and selection of subjects or observations. Obtaining a sample size that is appropriate in both regards is critical for many reasons (Patel, Doku, and Tennakoon, 2003. A large sample size is more representative of the population, limiting the influence of outliers or extreme observations. A sufficiently large sample size is also necessary to produce...

...Assignment 1, 2013 – Case Studies Tutorial-based group assessments Due: See ‘Due Dates for Case Study Submission’ section Marks: 30% of the total marks for the unit Background – Learning with Cases Harvard University, probably the most famous source of teaching cases, describes these resources as follows: “Teaching cases – also known as case studies – are narratives designed to serve as the basis for classroom discussion. Cases don’t offer their own analysis. Instead, they are meant to test the ability of students to apply the theory they’ve learned to a ‘real world’ situation … where good accounts of specific events can help exemplify and illuminate theory” (Harvard, 2000). The use of cases based on or around real organisations and/or current issues provides an entirely different approach to learning from that of lectures or more conventional tutorial exercises, where students solve specific problems in isolation from the world of business. Case preparation is a significant part of both undergraduate and postgraduate business study – particularly in the English-speaking world – and it is important to learn to do it effectively and efficiently. I have provided two introductory readings to help you with this process: “Learning Information Systems with Cases” (a pdf file available from your KXO223 MyLO resources) and “Notes on Writing a Case Study Report” (included in this document as Appendix A). Please begin by reading these carefully. Cases are usually based around...

...smartphones help these companies be more profitable? To what extent are improvements in performance coming from revenue increases or cost reductions? Provide several examples from the case. Smartphone’s assist these companies in multiple ways to increase their profitability. In the case of San Antonio based utility provider, CPS Energy, it streamlined there operations. In some situations in the field their current model of operation often required multiple, non-specialized individuals to address a single incident or work order. The use of cell phones allowed not only for a single individual in most cases to be dispatched, that individual could perform multiple functions. The Smartphone could be utilized to take pictures on site of damage or infrastructure concerns and relay that information (photo) to the office immediately. This allows expert troubleshooting off-site, enabling instructions to be sent back to the employee in the field or the appropriate individual dispatched; who also will be available, in a moment’s notice, via theory Smartphone. In addition the Smartphone provides GPS capability for tracking and locating and as emergency notification if necessary. All of this translates into to fairly significant cost reductions for CPS Energy. While it does not specifically state in the case study, it can be assumptive that the fewer field personnel dispatched per incident has lowered the wage expense and perhaps streamlined the operation overall, either through attrition...

...Case Study Week 6 Incident Response Policy First and foremost my name is XXXXXXXXX and I am the Senior Manager here at Gem Infosys. Here at Gem Infosys we are dedicated to protecting our organizations from attacks such as malware, adware, viruses and DDOS. Here at Gem Infosys we have also implemented some security protocols and a security policy for all our employees to adhere too as well. Under this incident response policy there will be the steps necessary to prepare, detect, contain and eradicate, recover, and reduce the network down time if any future incidents occur. The first thing we have to do is to determine the point of contact. Once that is determined, we will assemble an incident response team. The team will consist of a team leader, a network/security analyst, an internal and/or external subject matter expert, a legal counsel, a public affairs officer, and a security office contact. Once a team is assembled, the team will need to acquire the equipment necessary to detect, contain, and recover from an incident; establish the procedures and guidelines for the use of the equipment obtained; and train those who will use the equipment (Conklin, 2010). Once the suspected incident has occurred, the team must determine what type of incident has occurred, to ensure that it wasn’t a user error. All incidents will be handled as a possible security threat until they can determine whether it is or isn’t. Once the incident response team has determined that an incident most...

...Case Study Method The case method of teaching is widely used in business and science education today. By definition, a case is a written account of an actual condition that has occurred. This account is used as a real life example of a situation that can be analyzed by the students to teach concepts related to course study. Most often teaching with the case method requires facilitation and discussion of the account by the students (Foran, 2002). The aim is to analyze and apply the various course concepts as they pertain to the events in the case study. Some of the tools used by the teacher in the case method may be debate, or collaboration by placing students in groups. William Perry is a psychologist professor at Harvard and has commented on what is known as the Perry model for student learning. During early education students learn in what is called the dualist mode, where educators are the authority figures that students model and accept as 100% accurate in everything they say (Herreid, 2004). These authority figures lecture them on what is right and wrong and the students do not question this authority. The answers given by the teachers are the only correct ones and so the student learns to memorize these answers. During tests these answers are the only ones accepted as correct. Perry notes that this lecture mode only emphasizes the dualist mode where students are not allowed to think for themselves. He also makes the point that this is not how science works (Herreid...

...| Unit II Case Study | | | Barber, Charles [USA] | Strategic Marketing – MBA 5841 | Dr. Monica Sainz | 2/23/2013 | | Introduction This paper discusses the case stud of Fe’nix Del Sur, LLC provided by Kerin and Peterson (2010) in the text. Fe’nix Del Sur is company that sells a wide variety of South American and African artifacts. The case study illustrated how the competitive environment for the company changed dramatically over a ten year period. This paper will also discuss how ethical and financial implications affect potential courses of action for the company to adjust marketing and business activities. DECIDE Use the DECIDE process to evaluate one of the decisions Fe’nix Del Sur is faced with. In using the DECIDE process provided by Kerin and Peterson (2010), a clearly defined problem statement must be established. In the case of Fe’nix Del Sur, one problem identified was the fact that a lack of supply has forced the company to find new buyers. How can Fe’nix Del Sur regain is position in the market without degrading the company’s brand by compromising ethical standards? Secondly, the decision factors must be enumerated as discussed by Kerin and Peterson (2010). Alternative courses of action include add additional buyers or explore the option of using a mass-merchandise department store chain. The uncertainties related to the courses of action include availability of authentic artifacts and the market’s reaction...

...International Financial Management – Case Study #2 Nodal Logistics and Custo Brasil Deadline: Monday, 11/10/2014 How to get the case Nodal Logistics and Custo Brasil by Michael Moffett Source: Thunderbird School of Global Management 11 pages. Publication Date: Nov 15, 2008. Prod. #: TB0049-PDF-ENG The easiest way is to go directly to: http://hbr.org/store You will need to create an account and to use a credit or debit card to process payments. You can purchase the case in either digital (PDF) or hard copy, as you prefer. It should be about $9. Harvard Business Publishing offers a new way to buy cases – as part of a “coursepack.” I have not had a chance to try this out. But the case should be available at a 50% discount using the following link: https://cb.hbsp.harvard.edu/cbmp/access/31390448 Rules for case studies The way we will handle case studies is the following. You should hand in a written analysis, addressing the points discussed below. While I will moderate this discussion, the actual analysis should originate from you, the students. Hence, while you will not be asked to offer a formal presentation (simply, the size of the class makes it unfeasible, in my opinion), you should come to class prepared to discuss and defend your analysis. I will take your in-class contribution into account when grading your case analysis. You can work alone, if you so prefer, but I recommend finding one or two people to cooperate with. So, just to be clear...
