...Human Resource Management (Introduction) 200 Assessment 2 – Case Study Analysis and Essay INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this essay is to identify and describe four human resource issues faced by the companies affected by the earthquakes in Christchurch, New Zealand. As a human resource consultant working for the New Zealand government, four human resource solutions will also be discussed and suggested in order to assist these companies with the problems faced after the earthquake. The key issues brought about by the earthquake are; the shrinking talent pool for staff and the senior management, a fall in demand, a decrease in the morale of both staff and management and the temporary chance of Christchurch’s population to fall. It is important to address these issues because they affect the operations of the companies in a very negative way. These issues can be dealt with by using solutions which have been utilized in other countries which have faced natural disasters, as well as creating new ideas for future problems caused by such disasters. The issues and propositions will be discussed in further detail. Even though there is a low chance of such an event occurring in New Zealand again, they still leave companies not well prepared for the consequences of such an experience (FM Global, 2009). HUMAN RESOURCE ISSUES: The very first issue Christchurch faced was the shrinking talent pool of both their staff and senior management within their companies. This...

...Barnes & Noble Vs. Amazon To attain a competitive advantage over Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble needs to develop a proper strategy and implement a successful marketing plan. SITUATION ANALYSIS Barnes & Noble first must consider the issues and problems facing their company, and then perform an opportunity analysis to determine their strengths and weaknesses in relation to their customers, competitors, and company capabilities. In regards to the main concerns of Barnes & Noble, the company needs to worry about the uncertainties associated with the expected rapid growth of the Internet, the changing profile of Internet users, increased competition and indeterminate future developments in electronic retailing from publishers, wholesalers, and retailers, and intense price competition. By 2000, more than 80 million users will be on the World Wide Web, with an increase in females and a broader spectrum of education levels and age, changing the market demographics. Additionally, some book publishers, namely Simon & Schuster and Bertelsmann, have expanded online, while the national leading wholesaler, Ingram, is developing a website where wholesalers could ship directly to consumers. In the meantime, small publishers and universities have started to publish directly on the Web, avoiding print versions completely and thereby challenging the posterity of conventional books. Within the Barnes & Noble Corporation, their smaller traditional bookstores such...

RESEARCH DOCUMENTS BOOK NOTES AP NOTES Home » Miscellaneous Apple Ife Matrix Analysis By alexpadron | March 2008 Add to Library (0) Download Print Report this Essay Page 1 of 1 Apple IFE Matrix Analysis It was pretty surprising to me to find that all the different groups came up with fairly similar ratings in their IFE matrix for Apple Inc. My group, management, had the second highest rating at a 2.78 and I felt that we were fairly critical of the different strengths and weaknesses for the company. The groups that pertained to a more financial aspect like finance and accounting seemed to have lower scores, which were not as far above the average for utilization of resources internally. This seems interesting because many companies use resources outside their company to assist them in correcting financial problems. Also, there were a few strengths and weaknesses that every group mentioned in their matrix and they were: Steve Jobs leaving and then returning(W), large increase in inventory(W), products are globalized(S). It was interesting to see that Steve Jobs leaving and then returning was on everyone groups list because with out him these last few years Apple Inc. would probably not be where it is at today. The only downside to this is that there seems to be this great dependency on one person in...

Scope Introduction Procter & Gamble (P&G), first introduced a great tasting mouthwash that was minty green and sure to fight off bad breath, called Scope in 1967. In 1990, Scope led the Canadian market share with 32%. However, since 1988 when Pfizer Inc. launched a new mouthwash called Plax, it became Scopes’ major competitor. Plax offered something different from the typical mouthwashes. Plax had the advantage over other brands because not only did it offer fresh breath and killing germs, but it was also a plaque fighter. Gwen Hearst, brand manager, is in charge of increasing market share, volume, and profits for Scope. Marketing Issues First, does Scope intend on introducing a new line extension by developing a product that strictly focuses on fighting plaque. This must be done in a way not to mistake the customer into thinking that there are additional claims to the original product. Second, add new claims to the already existing product. This would state something like “Scope not only gives fresh breath and kills germs, but it also fights plaque.” Or third, take no action but would need to focus on increasing...

...level of analysis required may be greater and more reliance on primary sources (e.g. precedent cases and legislation) and secondary sources (textbooks, articles) may be required. But the basic fundamentals are still the same: a well-structured piece of work that leads the reader through a discussion of a particular problem or issue. There should be an introduction, a body and a conclusion. Inevitably, either you will be required to put up arguments for hypothetical parties dealing with a hypothetical business problem or you may be asked for your view about a particular legal issue. It is essential that you base your arguments and views on legal principles and cases and thus reliance on what others have written is necessary. This guide attempts to provide you with some assistance in writing and referencing law academic papers. Some basic resource materials are also noted. [NB: This guide is a starting point only.] There are two types of Law Academic Papers Students who take the Business Law Major will inevitably be expected, at some stage, to answer at least two different styles of legal questions: legal case studies and essays. Legal case studies These are questions based on a set of hypothetical facts. The purpose of legal case study questions is both to engage you in problem solving and to consider the issues relevant to risk management. In particular, case studies test your ability to complete an IRAC analysis of the question. This analysis proceeds...

...CMM 801: Journalism and Communication Theory Academic Essay Writing An essay is best approached as an intellectual argument that develops from the ideas, issues, theories, concepts, methodologies, etc., you have been taught within the module for which it is the final assessment. It is most important therefore – even as you begin and then progress through the module – that you are clear about the fundamental perspectives, values and assumptions underpinning the course’s main themes and topics as they are being presented to you in lectures and seminars. Remember no theory or perspective has the whole picture. All accounts of the world are partial and biased from a particular understanding of how we are human and what society is. Such-and-such a view is only the case under certain conditions. A prime purpose for an essay is to critique particular ideas, pointing out how explanation A might be more useful and valid than B in these circumstances. In the conclusion of your essay, on the other hand, you might want to point out that in other contexts (social, cultural, eras, etc.) there may be other factors that need to be considered. Do these limit or question the weight of claims you have made in the development of your current argument? Key questions before you embark on writing your essay • Have you identified clearly the key issue the essay question wants scrutinised? • Have you checked the command word in the question – e.g. explain means give details about why...
