Armed Forces members are always conducting training in their respective fields, no matter if you work as an aircraft mechanic, or infantry. Sometime, their own lives, and the lives of other people rely in highly specific, competent and timely performance. The soldiers who eliminated Osama bin Laden demonstrated their competence in fulfilling that task.
You need to be responsible and work with competent colleagues. To perform skilled work in business, like writing a request for proposal (RFP), the design of new equipment, or the creation of financial statements, suitable expertise and skill is required. You have to be aware of what you are doing.
Competence includes the capability of working comfortably with others. Not long ago, I called a governmental agency, and it was like I was annoying for this female. She was brusque and unfriendly, and did the minimum of what she had to do. By the end of a tense conversation I felt obligated to say something, and I said: "You could have been nicer" Her answer was to say, "I was nice".
On groups that need a lot of interaction, it is not enough to know what they are doing; should also be able to be comfortable to work with. For instance, if you have to work closely with other members of a project team or with customers they must possess a high standard of social sensitivity, known too many as "soft" skills.
Suit to the different communication styles of the people you may work with. Some individuals are very businesslike, and do not feel comfortable making small talk. To others, they will be uncomfortable when you are too formal. Work towards improved these abilities and keep them sharp. For the majority of us complementary training or reading can improve these skills.
At a time when workers must do more with less, sometimes highly experienced employees are fired, leaving newbie’s and other less experienced workers to finish the job. This seems to happen when all areas are mandated cuts, for example, when each department has to cut 10 percent. Unfortunately, not all departments can support a cut of 10 percent. Some groups may improve efficiency, while other groups will burn the survivors.
